What's wrong with wishes???

There were non-technical issues last night that inhibited part of last night's showing of Wishes. Without specific details, it had to do with persons being in an unauthorized location. Rooftop firing was shut down.

Safety. Yep, it was unfortunate. And rare.
Whew! Thank goodness. I was going to be so sad if Wishes was cut permanently like that.

Thanks for the information!

I can confirm that when I was down there (11/28-12/6) the Wishes we saw worked perfectly. So definitely sounds like a malfunciton as noted previously! WHEW!!

If I may just confirm what lightboy said - the show was planned as normal (perhaps even better with the new shell designs in use over the past week or so) - security issues meant in-park launchers were all scrubbed, as they can be at a moments notice.

This is fascinating. How can one be in an inappropriate location that cannot be solved prior to the show?

This is soooo mysterious the way you talk about it. Did someone scale philharmagic and sit on the roof? Or are such issues or ideas and security issues unspeakable?

I would like to correct Marni's statement. I wouldn't tag this incident as a "Security Issue". That makes it sound like a whole-lotta-something that it's not.

It was simply an instance of individuals, non-guests, that were in a place they shouldn't have been at that time. Normally it would be fine, but not during fireworks.

As any Cast Member will tell you, or you can read on the internet...there are many entrances and exits backstage that will put you in a fireworks fall-out-zone. This is the same at Studios, and Epcot. But there is proper signage on all doors notifying you that you are about to enter a prohibited area (fall-out-zone) during fireworks.

No security personnel were there (not even Disney Security is not allowed in any fireworks area [except in rare supervised instances] or fall out zone during show), no breaking and entering occurred, no "scaling the wall" occurred.

Although, I would have enjoyed watching that. :ROFLOL:

What are these new shell designs?

Getting back to the fireworks... Was it windy that night? Maybe not at ground-level, but higher up? (i.e. what were the clouds doing?) They'll inhibit some pyro from firing if it's too windy, and they might even make decisions mid-show to inhibit more.

We saw an utterly horrible showing of Wishes at a MVMCP in '04. (This was back before the introduction of Holiday Wishes, they ran regular Wishes and just added perimeter shots to the finale) It was very windy, and they barely shot off any Fantasyland rooftop shots, and there were even some of the higher-altitude shots that didn't go off. Even then, we had soot raiing down on us, and a large chunk of a shell fell down and bonked my friend on the leg. (We were standing between the Hub and the Tomorrowland bridge)

I remember that night. I happen to be a cast member on Main Street at that time...

Good to hear this was a mere security sut-off issue and not a sign of more permanent changes. But what are these new shells I'm hearing about?

We were there last night too. We were over by Cosmic Rays right around 9pm. We were eating dinner in the back dining area that over looks the castle. My DS #1 noticed a stroble light flashing just prior to the start of Wishes. I told him that maybe it had to do with the start of the show. We watched Wishes outside Cosmic Rays and the Tea Cups. We noticed all the missing fireworks. It's all my DS 5 talked about for the rest of the evening (can you tell that he has seen it many many times). I thought there must have been techincal difficulties but it makes sense that there is a safety/ E stop for the roof top fireworks if somone or something enters the fireworks area.
We were watching Wishes surrounded by people who have never seen it =(
Space Mountain went down too...we were riding the people mover and the lights were on the entire time we went through...my pictures did not turn out very well. But they are still neat.

Oh yeah we were in line for the TTA around 10pm when it stopped. Then we walked over to Space Mountain and it was closed. Later that night, around 11:15pm, we went back to Space Mountain and it was still down. It just didn't wind up coming back up at all, though the TTA did.

Saturday's show of Wishes was definitely a disapointment...the Fantasia part is one of my favorites of that show and it was just nonexistant besides the music... :(

And the crowds at MK on Saturday were horrible!!!! Like parking lot horrible. They had the backstage path over to Tomorrowland open, it was one way into the park coming through the NoodleStation...we had to eat our Casey's Hotdogs over in Liberty Square because of lack of seating and no way we could get to the NoodleStation Tables. :brick:

It also took us an hour to get from Space Mountain (btw, the FP lines was further out than the Stand-by) to the park exit! No way we were going to attempt the monorail station...we went to the Contemporary to catch it there...btw...both of the stores in the Contemporary are very nicely laid out.

Also... I didn't know if anyone had noticed it but the Globe in the Osbourne Specticle of Dancing Lights was not working on Saturday...It would start to spin on way...then go back the other way only ever completing about 1/4 of a spin...

Hmmm... is any of the area directly behind the castle roped off during the fireworks? Do they shut down the carousel?

All attractions in Fantasyland are open during Wishes, ebcause they're all under-cover from any fireworks fallout. They only shut down the two stores nearest the Castle (Sir Mickey's and...Tinker Belle's Treasures?) because the only way to get to them is through the open area.

There are ropes across the walkways on either side of the carousel with CMs stationed there to prevent people from entering the area. While that area is closed off, Snow White and Philharmagic re-configure their queues so that you enter in a different location than normal, and Snow White's exit also re-routes underneath the queue covering. So even though parts of the Snow White queue and the carousel itself are inside the roped-off area, they're OK because they're under cover.

They also rope off the ends of the two pathways that lead up to either side of the Castle from Cosmic Rays and Sleepy Hollow. If any guests are leaving Cinderella's Royal Table, they will be escorted out through the front of the Castle.

There are also techs who constantly monitor the closed-off areas, and will inhibit the rooftop fireworks if any unauthorized person (CM or Guest) is within that zone. So if a Guest ignores the CMs at the ropes and pushes their way past them, those fireworks WILL stop.
