What's Still On and What's Now Off

Why would they do a theme overlay on an old ride next to a new ride with the exact same niche movie theme?

This one genuinely is a head scratcher...even for a rumor.

Tomorrowland's theme is... Well, no matter what you consider Tomorrowland's theme, the Tron overlay would be a far sight more fitting than the current speedway.

Electric redo would be better, but even then it would likely be best to include sci-fi elements to attempt avoiding being a "When you were a kid they didn't even have car phones or laserdiscs" moment.

Wait... Just had a realization. Elon Musk likes throwing money around. Has a TESLA sponsorship for the speedway ever been looked into?

I get that...I even agree with it. But putting a non frontline IP on the putt putt cars is beyond devoid of imagination...

...and for a second I forgot who was in charge. Carry on. 🤯

Is the Star Wars hotel going to turn into what Art of Animation was before they finally completed it?

Considering that the original plan was the years 1900-1959, I don't think I'd want to visit a resort where I'd be living an incredibly immersive experience as if I were in the setting.

I'd argue putting a frontline IP on that's even less fitting thematically is even moreso. ;)

I mostly meant just abandoning it, and then we will have videos 10 years from now of people speculating the empty bunker sitting there.

To serve that insatiable demand for tron?

1. Speedway, as is, would be incongruous in theme next to TRON (not to mention that combustion go-karts are incongruous with Tomorrowland)
2. TRON Racers would visually flow in with the canapy of TRON Cycle.
3. TRON Cycle fails in the "more family" department with a height requirement. TRON Racers would fill that gap. Big brothers and sisters go to Cycle, while the little ones go to Racers.

It would have been only superficially different from what Pop Century is now. Same style and standard of accommodation.

IMO many of Disney’s best resorts are themed to the earlier parts of the 20th century, but this would have been no Grand Floridian.

I’m bummed to see the star cruiser is on hold. I’m really looking forward to them trying a whole in story hotel. Hopefully when they start up again (and they will) it remains similar to what they were planning on.

The EPCOT overhaul is what scares me...they really have to fix that crater in the middle of future world. Spaceship Earth needs that update and Epcot just needs rides in general...

Happy to see TRON is going ahead I’m a huge fan of the IP and maybe this can mark a turning point in the popularity. Would love to see more TRON going forward. Huge fan of the tron racers idea as well.

I don't know if anyone else has this problem, but as an asthmatic with glasses (Jeez, I sound like a stereotypical need) I can't take wearing a mask. I usually forgo a protective one when doing work because I feel like I can't breathe and any time I exhale it blows right out the top and fogs things up so bad I can't see. Anyone else have problems like this?
Not asthma, but absolutely the fogging. I tried contacts for a long time, but I have an astigmatism and they just aren't comfortable for me (not to mention the price as I can't wear the throw-away ones). Glasses fogging is a royal pain in the rear.

I can see the Speedway "re-do" (really ... I kinda expected it to be cut anyway) being off the table. No upgrades to attractions. We'll never get the Big Thunder explosion, etc.

Easy things possibly budgeted for ...

I also think the Avengers E-ticket is DOA for Anaheim and Hong Kong.

Now of course they could always re-visit projects in a year or two but who knows?

"Good enough" has been their mantra more times than not. Remember that everyone.

While it's a WDW forum of course, anyone else think Paris' parks will suffer too? I'm guessing no Runaway Railway for them, at least for a while. Star Wars "land". I can see FROZEN and the new lake continuing and other things. They kinda have to finish Avengers Campus, right? Spider-Man Mania and the coaster overlay kinda have to be done. But who knows?

It wouldn’t be totally surprised if they tried that...even though it doesn’t go with the “strong IP” initiative.

The best thing for speedway- still - would be for it to go...replace with something kid friendly but not horrifically out of date.

I know folks like the smelly Speedway, and I get it, but they could better utilize that space. Move the cars to EPCOT, do a better job theming the track, and it adds another attraction there. Not hard to create a track and move the cars. But they won't, lol. Just a thought.

TRON isn't a strong IP, but it has a cult fanbase. And it's a coaster, so it will be a hit. I mean, a coaster starring Aerosmith still draws in guests (I like it, but just saying ...). I can see why Penguin would suggest they continue that and do something like TRON Racers. Would be better than the cars getting a paint job (my guess on the "upgrade"). Wouldn't want them to invest in electric cars ...

Well... the joke was the Legendary Years theme being applied to the Starcruiser's immersive experience. :hilarious:

I do wish that things had gone ahead. A lot of people think it was not a theme that would be popular, but I just really wish that I could have seen what the resort would have been besides the couple of pieces of concept art.
