What's Still On and What's Now Off

Anything that is has gone vertical, or has foundations poured, is continuing...that money has to be funded and approved. Furthermore, any “leftover” is not automatically put towards other work.

I would bet Disney finances these projects, and, if so, the bank is going to expect them to finish.

Everyone is forgetting that the Star Wars Hotel is an experience, not just a bed and shower. It’s going to print money for them...no way they are going to stop.
People here get that, even if they’re drawing parallels with Pop Legendary.
The issue is how many people are willing to pay what is required to make the margins that got this project approved.

Wasn't the theme of the 1920's area of the Legendary Years rumored to be Monopoly?

The one piece of concept art that exists is of a Monopoly-themed courtyard.

The hotel says "Flat Foot Floogie", which was a song from the 30's, when Monopoly was first released by Parker Bros. There was also a Coke Bottle pool according to the plan.

From the arrangement, I imagine the resort runs in one arching line from 00's to 90's, meaning the top part is the 40's with what could be a wartime shield emblem, and there's no doubt green Army men. But I have no idea what that is in between the two 1910's buildings and the 1900 building.

They could always put a carousel, M&G’s and a couple of flat, spinner rides where Innoventions West was located.

Yeah! It worked for Dinoland!

47 million could end up unemployed. 30% unemployment rates. People are not going to have money. They’re not going to have discretionary money to spend THOUSANDS for a two night stay.

That line of thinking gets thrown out and it’s just simply not true. It does not have to be funded and approved. That’s not how any of this works.

I don’t even think that crosses anyone’s mind (“cruise ship on land”) as being an issue. The issue is $3K for two nights was difficult to swallow BEFORE this pandemic. Now it’s downright not happening.

I always thought of The Star Wars Hotel as a cruise ship on land. Before Corona, the costs were ridiculous and that alone stopped me. But now after Corona, its the thought of the close quarters and catching the various cruise type stomach bugs and now the deadly Corona virus its really scary.

But this is moot. The Star Wars Hotel is not happening now..... It may never happen now...

Before 9/11, there were plans to expand the WDW monorail system. Those went away forever after 9/11.

It's a mixture of three things.

1. People not having the money to shell out.
2. The fact that everyone is going to be cooped up together and we don't know when a vaccine is coming or when people are going to stop being wary.
3. Disney not having the money after building it to pay everyone that needs to make the experience what was advertised.

Thanks for finding and posting that! Good to know that the ol’ brain still remembers things like that from time to time. 😉

The concept had some serious cracks/flaws before this hit.

That and the suspicions they have not the foggiest idea to pull it off means they COULD pause or change course.

Not impossible.

Disney isn’t a commercial builder trying to finish some gaudy Florida new construction complex with a Chick-fil-A out front...
They operate on billions of revolving credit that they finance out as long as THEY want....and structure longterm debt. They banks have no demands they can place. And they would be silly not to shut up and take the money from disney no matter what.

Some people here don’t seem to get that people get that 🤪

Can anyone here speak intelligently about it? Where was it going to go?
The monorails are tremendously expensive to operate and inefficient.

The chance of building more ended during the cost/benefit analysis under Eisner and wells in the late 80’s or early 90’s during the phase 3 buildout.

The existing monorails won’t last as they are forever either.

I’m not saying all of these projects have banks checking for collateral, but I would argue that Star Wars has more involved than the typical hotel. Comparing POP to Star Wars completion is not appropriate.

It's a bit hard for me to see the guest value for money in the Star Wars hotel. You drive up in a mini bus and once you walk in, the desk clerks, bellhops, waitresses etc. are dressed up and pretending to be the crew of a giant spaceship in a non-existent Star Wars movie. You go to your room and everything is Sci Fi looking. Instead of windows you have extra large TVs which show continuous loops of stars, planets and spaceships flying by. You eat in something like the space restaurant in Epcot. You get a VIP tour of Galaxys Edge which is the same experience as other guests, except with cast members acting out some kind of drama which was hinted at by the hotel staff. With cupcakes and special drinks.

Is this what is expected?

Not bad in any way. But can they sell out this experience at 90% occupancy year round, at ultra-premium prices, for say a decade?
