Hello All:wave:
Originally my extended family and myself and my wife were planning a trip for this xmas to the world, however, my wife is now pregnant and our first baby is on the way!! :sohappy: She's due in Feb., anyway for the baby's second xmas we were thinking of trying to re-do the trip we originally planned for this xmas, the baby would be about 22 months old at that point. Anyone have any thoughts on if its too early for the baby's first trip down?? Thanks all in advance!

We are going June 2007, and we are taking my daughter with us. When we arrive at the World, she will be 20 months.

I am already mentally preparing myself for the fact that this is going to be a WHOLE DIFFERENT Disney experience. We are going to have to take things way slower than usual. However, I am really excited about seeing her little face light up like a Christmas tree.

I've seen it posted elsewhere and you point out in your post as well that you'll be taking it slower.

I'm a dad that had preschoolers back in the late 70's and early 80's and remember the fun we had then, but seemed we rushed everwhere. I've been blessed to have another daughter come along and I'm in my 50's now. I'm still in pretty good shape, but find myself doing Disney at a much slower pace now, and frankly enjoying it much more.

I know how important it is to get the most bang for your buck and regardless of how well you budget, Disney is not a cheap vacation. But if you're like me and most other families you'll love it so much that as soon as you get home, you'll be planning a trip next year. Looking forward to new trips and planning them is part of the Disney magic.

If you slow down a bit, you'll be amazed at some of the things you'll find you've been missing as you're running down everyone to get to the next ride. Even if you miss a few things, you'll enjoy the vacation more, and have even more reason to come back again. The little kids will get more out of it too and that's where your priorities ought to be anyway.

Go slow, have a great time, and I hope it's the first of many more to come!

We took our son every summer since 2004 (He was born 9/03) The first year was a little weird, he was only 11 months old so we didn't do many rides other than the carosuel, etc. Last year he was 23 months AND HE HAD A BALL. The first thing we took him on was Small World. At first we didn't think he liked it. It just sat in the boat with us and stared at everything. We got t the end to unload, he looked at me and said again mommy, again daddy. I think at 20 months you will be fine as long as you pace yourself. Plan on mornings and evenings and definitely taking nap time.....There is nothing sadder than seeing a crying toddler when they are so tired and you just want them to have fun.......

8 days and counting:sohappy:

Our sons first trip was at 6mo and he has been 6 times since then. He is now three, but we get to experience something different each time because he is able to do a little more each time.

I actually seemed a little easier to take him at 6 mo and 12 mo than it is now.

Took child #1 when she was 6 weeks. Took child #2 when he was 9 weeks. Both trips went pretty smoothly, mainly because being that young... they sleep so easily! Luckily, we had a lot of family with us to help us with feeding times and getting to ride the rides. THe oldest child has now been back 3 or 4 times with another trip scheduled for this Christmas. This will be #2's second trip.

I will agree with something somebody else mentioned... those first trips with the infants were somewhat easier than chasing around a hyped-up toddler who can walk and talk... and HAD to see everything right then!!!

we went w/ the 11 mo old and a 3 yr old. No probs. We hit Universal, Sea World and disney for 11 days. Just remember to get them out to crawl/walk around a lot and plenty of NAP time. If you have a reclining stroller... Enjoy World Showcase for 2-3 hours.

We took our son for the first time at 25 months and he had a ball. I agree with the earlier posts that no age is too young, you just have to plan you days a little different. Most days we stayed in the parks all day and skipped nap time which led to an earlier bed time (for us as well)

Of course there is the child's perspective... I went for the first time at 3 1/2 years way back in 76. As much I would like to say I remember the trip, I really don't.

I think the best time is after they turn three. Because they will remember it. That was when I went to WDW for the first time.

Now, I don't have advice, but I can say that my first trip to Disney was before I can remember (I was less than 2yo). BUT, I have been told that I was never a crier or whiner.
It is soo wonderful to look back at pictures of me with the characters and my 2 older brothers. Some pictures I look happy, some I look scared! But if your kids grow up to be obsessed with Disney like me, they will cherish those pictures forever!

We took my son at 7 months and have gone once/yr. Now we are going this Nov and our daughter will be 1yr. I can say they wont remember the first few trips, but Ill never forget my son just learning to walk and strestching his arms out to meet Donald. It was just like a commercial!

Each trip will be different and unique. Ive enjoyed them all

I know that a lot of people argue that if you take your child too early you are just wasting money because they won't remember. There is some validity to that train of thought, but we took our youngest when she was 10 months old and were very surprised with how well she did. She loved the characters. I have great video of Minnie pulling the nuk out of her mouth and her giggling. Then the next year when she was almost two, she had no fear of the characters. It was great!! She would run right up to them and hug them. Every character she saw she loved! The look on her face was priceless! She may not remember those moments when she grows up, but we will always have video and pictures for her to see. Now the true test will be our next trip when she is almost three. It will be interesting to see if she is fearful or if she remembers that these characters are pretty fun.

Mine is a photo of my 16 month old daughter with Dreamfinder and Figment. As Tramp said, the look on her face was priceless. She doesn't remember the trip, but I do.

And each was unique, including her first trip with her baby brother, trips with friends along, trips with grandparents (one has died, one is severely disabled) and even a trip with her college boyfriend.

And both of my children made their first trips in the womb.

My son's first trip was in the womb! We had already planned, paid for airline tickets and the trip when we found out we were pregnant.

He went at 2 & 3 and will go again soon. Just remember it will be at a much slower pace and different than going without a little one. Mine remembered the Halloween party we went to when he was 2. It was great to see his little face light up when he saw the fireworks and characters. It is so worth going. Each year has gotten easier. He is able to ride a lot of rides and loves it.

Take it easy, go at a slow pace and realize you are probably going to spend alot of time in MK (atleast we did). Hope this helps!!
