What would you rather?

What would you rather do? I'm already thinking about our trip next year in Sept. and I'm wondering - would I prefer to stay at a deluxe hotel and stay for a week or stay in a value and stay longer? I'm torn because we so enjoyed staying at the GF last year, especially being on the monorail line but sometimes it seems like we could use more days. We've stayed at the PC before and really liked that too. The only difference is we stayed at the PC in '05 and next time we go my kids will be one teenager and one tween. So, thoughts???

You could try one of the lodges, they are deluxes but quite a bit cheaper than the GF etc... Or maybe a moderate. More time at WDW is always a good thing.

Port Orleans Riverside feels like a deluxe to me but is only a moderate and cheaper than any on the monorail line. For me, I prefer to give up a day or two in order to be able to stay on the monorail line. Our two favorite parks are the MK and Epcot so having the monorail access is perfect for us. We park hop between the two constantly. If you are talking about a difference of a week than maybe a value would work best but I would really look into a moderate if it would give you enough extra days in the parks.

I guess it depends on how much time we are talking about.
I would rather spend 7 days at a deluxe over 10 days at a value. I might take the value if it made the vacation twice as long.

Since you have stayed at a value and enjoyed it, just how much more did you enjoy the GF and do you enjoy the resort as much as the parks? If you spend a good bit of time at your resort, you may be better off at a deluxe. If you don't, go with the value or try a moderate and stay longer. My husband would rather stay 7 days at the Wilderness Lodge than 10 days at POR. I'd rather have the longer vacation. Good luck and have a wonderful vacation!

My teens (oldest will be 19 this year and youngest will be 14 in 2 weeks) LOVE Pop Century and like my wife and I, look at the resort as being a place to bunk down for the night in between the REAL reason we are there....to hit up the parks for 10 days of fun! We could probably stay at a moderate or deluxe if we really wanted to, but like I said, we usually spend very little time at the resort other than for dinner most nights and sleeping at night.

I have to ask how big (height/weight) are the kids and would they be comfortable at the Pop? Remember you stayed there 5 years ago and the kids were a lot smaller.
Pop, as well as all the value and moderates, has 2 full size beds that sleep a max of 4. The GF is a Deluxe so you had 2 queen size plus the fold down bed.
If you can get by with just 2 queen size beds then, as mentioned, AKL or WL are good options. If not the Contemporary garden wing rooms are less expensive than the GF, sleep 5, and are on the monorail so that might fit all of you needs.

Did you get hold of one of thiose pin codes which gives you 40% off? may make the deluxe more affordable, those codes ware out there.

I would personally rather 7 days in Deluxe than a longer stay in value,

Good luck

What about splitting the difference and going with a moderate?? I personally don't mind staying in a value, because I usually don't spend much time in the room. Yes, its a little longer going to the parks. But I enjoy a longer trip and for me to afford that its usually staying at a value.

I think someone else already asked, but how much of a difference in length of stay are we talking?? Just a couple of days or would it about double the trip?? That could make a difference.

We fly down from Boston and seems fewer then 9 days doesnt give us enough time to do everything we want. I agree with you I love the deluxe resorts but usually go with the moderates. POR is a great resort, This year we are staying at AKL for our honeymoon it should be great, I really dont like the value resorts at all

What is the difference of days if you stay at the GF vs. a value? How much longer would you stay? We love the GF. It's amazing.

It depends on how much time you spend at your resort. If you're an every day park goer, and you could use the extra time to do the parks, go for the Value. If you spend time at your resort, and would take advantage of the amenities offered by a Deluxe, I would do the Deluxe. A whole week is a good amount of time to stay at Disney - and being there at a Deluxe is really a great experience!

i used to stay at either Contemp or WL because of the proximity to the MK till i visited PC on one trip. i have now stayed their twice and loved it, one reason being now i can stay longer. i would rather stay longer than be in a deluxe. like it was said earlier how long are you really planing on staying in your room.

another option you can think of is Family Suites in ASMusic

If it's a choice of Deluxe and shorter trip, and Value and longer trip, unless we're talking about a honeymoon or other special occasion, I would always pick the longer stay at a Value Resort.

For us, we spend most of the time in the parks or just generally outside of our room, and only use it to sleep and as a place to change. So for us, it matters less where we stay (we also get a rental car, so transportation doesn't factor much into our decision.)

Either way, hope the trip is an enjoyable one!

Thanks for reminding me of the bed sizes, I had forgotten. The kids enjoyed taking turns on the pull-out bed at the GF so they could have a bed all to themselves instead of having to share. Plus, it's close to impossible for me and my DH to share a double, we're used to our king. Thanks again!

Thanks.....

Thanks everyone for your input! I decided to ask the kids their preference and, amazingly, they had the same answer (which is a rare thing indeed in our house!) - stay at the deluxe. I was surprised by that but I also know how much they love to take the monorail, too. Plus, I'm not sure I have the powers of persuasion to get my DH to go longer, lol!

You could also do a split stay - start your trip at Pop Century, then transfer to a deluxe - best of both worlds!

That's what I was thinking. If I'm not mistaken, the Values run right around 100 bucks, maybe a little higher depending on the season. The Grand Floridian is around 400 bucks a night, if I'm not mistaken.

So, if those numbers are correct, instead of trying to decide between the two, then just stay 6 nights at the Grand Floridian instead of 7, and the money saved by shaving off a night at the GF could then be used to pay for 4 nights at Pop Century.
