What will replace Pleasure Island?

I agree with this. Disney contracting with stable third parties and leaving blank spaces on the "canvas" for WDI to fill in with varied Disney touches and compelling "suprises" to add to the atmosphere. Especially in the evening.

And no backstory to get limited by as times change.

Just as blank as Flamingo Crossings.

I thought we were discussing PI.

Well, when you bring up that you think PI will be filled with all these wonderful 3rd party participants, then I think it's an apt comparison when Flamingo Crossing is already having issues getting tenants.

So when all this "progress" of tearing down buildings on PI is done, it's an easy question to wonder if there will be any tenants wanting to build there or if PI will remain as empty as Flamingo Crossing.

I've always felt that one of the things that helped do Pleasure Island in, was the advent of the West Side. Because while it's possible to get from the Marketplace to the West Side (and vice versa) without going through Pleasure Island, it's not as visually interesting, kinda not as safe, and some people (walking with children) are naturally going to be attracted to the noise and music and ballyhoo (that's right, I wrote it. Ballyhoo. And I'll do it again if I have to). And once families were able to walk through, it was only a matter of time before people were allowed to bring their children INTO the clubs, turning the idea of an adults' respite from PG-rated fun into a wedding reception where nobody got married. Had Pleasure Island been MORE isolated, set back more and with better walkways twixt the other two DTD ends, it may have helped. Eh, what do I know?

What I suspect, but have no idea, is that some semblance of Pleasure Island will take root, primarily as third-party entertainment-based restaurants, cabaret, dinner theatre, standup...More family friendly than what Pleasure Island was (except for maybe AC), but with a smattering of adults-only venues, too. It won't be a pay-one-price-get-in-everywhere deal anymore. But it won't "just" be a bunch of chain restaurants, either, though I wouldn't be surprised if they were chain restaurant-sponsored, like a TGI Friday's murder mystery dinner theater, or an intimate performance venue that serves Chevy's or some such crap.

In a sense it's apples and oranges. I don't understand the current FC concept. I mean, I understand what they want to do but I see why they are not getting much interest.

I think FC is THE perfect location for a PI-esque Disney owned resort that caters only to the 21 and over demographic. A resort with an attached entertainment zone and recreational area would work very well IMO.

DTD is an entirely different problem. I think Disney will find DTD an easier sell as they open up the island and tenants can get a better idea of what they are potentially getting for their money. I'm sure most would rather not develop in what is essentially a warehouse district of rather unattractive buildings. Location, location, location.

I don't see much of a difference between the current Pleasure Island and Flamingo Crossings... :zipit:
Zing!!

Seriously...I wonder if FC is even going to take off. I strongly suspect it will "vanish" soon, seeing that it's not looking to well....and not even publicized.

IMHO, of course. It does not look good.

Look,
I miss PI, Too. Especially adventurer's club and comedy warehouse. Great memories, I have there. But, let's be honest. As of the laste few years leading up to the closing of the clubs, some of the people frequenting the area were "less than savory" and definitely not conducive to attracting money spending families to the area.
Too many thugs, not to mention, fights and arrests. Glad to see it go. I would like to see adventurer's club reopened at Animal Kingdom. But, seeing the crowd Pleasure Island was attracting as of its last few years, I am glad to see it go. I always go to Disney to escape the thugs I see in the New Orleans area. Was not very happy walking from the bus stop at PI seeing new orleans'ish thugs loitering about.
Good move Disney. I hope they open something that does not remotely attract anyone from the thug life. Let em have citywalk.

Putting the gates back up on the Island, bringing back the "real" bouncers the island once had would have but a stop to any "thug" activity quickly and easily.

Also, with PI now gone, there is still that element over there. Just a couple weeks ago I believe we had a robbery that was well publicized in the news.

And there are still arrests happening and there are still "New Orleans'ish" "thugs" loitering about. The loiterers I saw were almost always on the west side anyway, not in Pleasure Island because they aren't old enough. It's basically an outdoor mall. That's what kids do when they have nowhere else to go. The mall..

I agree the dance clubs needed to be closed, but there was a time when Disney did not close attractions without planning something new. Closed, empty buildings have become too commen at WDW. It's starting to look like Detroit.

Blatently lying to the public, claiming there was some kind of "bold new vision" is insulting. Disney seems to have no respect any more for the public--it's a complete 180 for Walt's days.

Clearly the WDW executives thought: everyone would want to open a restaurant at Disney. Let just close up the stuff the old timers built and rent it out. We wont need to manage anything, we'll just be landlords!

This is the same logic behind Flamigo Crossing and it's arrogant. Disney management today thinks their brand is so strong but they have no understanding of how that brand was built, and they have no respect for the people that built it, and no respect for the public that responds to it.
