This is a question for people who have Pal Mickey's I was wondering what version is the best?

I read in wiki that Pal Mickey ver. 2 has a better loud speaker is this true? If so, is Pal Mickey ver. 1 really that low in volume?

Thanks for any help.

I got the first version when I was little and the volume was very good.

We have 3 of the V.1's. Never had a problem with volume. The only time we ever did anything with him, tho, was when in lines. We played the games. :)

So you guys could hear Mickey fine when walking through the parks and he would say one of the 700 facts with version one?

I'm thinking of having him hang around my neck so it's about a foot and half away from my ear I just want to make sure I can hear him through all the music and crowd talk. Thanks again

I didn't hear him at random times walking thru the parks but I wasn't listening or paying any attention. When I was listening to him I could hear him.

Keep in mind that they are completely NON-updatable. So if you get the oldest version, it will be the most out of date. (Version 1 will talk about Alien Encounter instead of Stitch for example.)

For any version, you're going to want to bring him closer to your ear when he giggles to listen to his message. You can carry him around your neck or on your shoulder, but you're definitely not going to want to just leave him there when he talks.

The newest version was the third - he's dressed in the Sorcerer Mickey outfit. The oldest one is just him in his red shorts and the second he has his Tux and a "glow medallion" in his hand.

I have versions 1 and 2 and they're both great. I missed out on getting 3 before it got discontinued. Ver2 has more games over ver1.

Does ver. 2 talk about SGE or still AE?
I don't remember 100% but I believe ver2 talks about SGE. SGE opened in 2004 and ver2 came out in 2005. I'm pretty sure they updated it in that version. It's been awhile since I've taken either of my Pals to the park with me though.

the 3.0 version is the most updated. however if you bring a 2 or 3.0 along with a 1.0, it is a little bit fun to listen to both of them (especially when 1.0 talks about a past attraction like The Living Seas while 2 and 3.0 refer it to The Seas with Nemo and Friends), it sort of like a parallel story (but without the concern of causing a time paradox)

Yea I agree I've been watching on eBay for the going rate and they range from 60-100 bucks for a ver. 1-3 out of the box and old.

For in the box brand new there going for around 180-250. I don't care if there in a box or not I'm watching a ver. 2 for 150 bucks but not sure if I will get that since I could get lucky on a ver. 3 for around 80 bucks.

:(Could have sold it to me......My DW wants one too so I'm going to try and get one for each of us from ver. 1 to ver. 3 (one for me, one for DW, and one for DD).

But yea they are crazy how some get in bidding wars and the ver. 1 has gone as high as 100 bucks. Usually the ver. 1 goes for about 55-70 bucks, while ver. 2 is about 70-90, and ver. 3 goes for about 80-115.

Sometimes you get lucky and they even still have Pal Mickey outfits on there going for about 10-25 bucks.

I've heard when they first came out it was 50 bucks or you could rent one for 8 bucks a day with a $50 deposit so if it didn't come back it was basically sold.

They did away with that but it was still 50 for ver. 1. Here is where I'm a bit off I believe. I think ver. 2 or ver. 3 started to go for 60 bucks at that time and that's where it ended in 2008.

So while the markup isn't as high yet but as more and more years go by I believe they will just go up and up.

I had no idea they were in demand. I gotta thank the OP. I just sold my old V.1 on eBay for $50. That's $$ in the vacation fund!

I didn't know they were worth anything either. I just went t go look for mine. Turns out he still works when I put new batteries in him. My v2 will be hitting eBay as soon as I come home from Disneyland on the 18th.

Ver1 originally was $50 purchase or $8/day rental with a $42 deposit. (For a total of $50) You were welcome to simply keep it and not return it at which point, you'd have paid the $50 for it.

So many people just kept them, that they did away with the rental program.

Version 2 was $65. I believe ver3 was around $69 (I recall it being just a few dollars more than the second but I could be wrong.) When the discontinuation was released, they DISAPPEARED off the shelves pretty much overnight. I tried desperately to find one but couldn't. So sadly, my collection is missing the final addition. :(

As for why they were discontinued? Sadly, Disney had these amazing ideas for Pal Mickey - you should read the patent! - but...I think WDI just gave up on the idea and didn't see any reason to really continue improving and developing it. Originally, there was even supposed to be a Pal Pooh as the second release with more characters to follow. (Pooh being apparently the 2nd most popular character for park merch.)

I remember back when they were still new that they were pretty popular. However, I think the combination of the price and having to lug around a fairly heavy device contributed to its downfall. I only brought mine around the parks a few times and eventually gave up because it was annoying to carry around. I did enjoy playing games while in line though.

I remember when they used to rent them! That was our first trip in 2004. I thought it was hysterical funny that you could "rent" a plush. I joked that the next thing you know you'd be able to "rent" a kid to push around in a stroller all day. But when you think about it, it was a good way to try-before-you-buy. Hubby always thought Disney was betting the renters would get Mickey dirty or Junior would drool on him and they'd have to keep him anyway. LOL!

I'm tempted to go dig into my boys' rooms and slap theirs with a big ol' fat "for sale" sign, too. When V.2 came out the V.1's went to the outlet stores. My cousin's wife (Kerby626) called me to tell me about it. I called the outlet store right away and purchased 2 of them over the phone for $15 each! They were Christmas gifts for the boys in 2005. They took their Pal Mickey's to WDW just once but I don't think they ever carried them into the parks. We got each of the boys an outfit for their Mickey, too. Ooooh...I bet the outfit would make them a premium. I'm so bad. I'd hock my kids if I thought I could fetch a good price for 'em.... ((J/K!!!!))

I agree with Tiggerific, we didn't carry ours into the parks so much because we didn't like carrying him out in the open. In those days we were already carrying enough stuff around. Also, back right after they first came out another of my cousins was sitting on Main Street waiting for the parade with her 2 sons and had set their Pal Mickey with their backpack right next to them. Theirs ended up getting stolen. :lookaroun After we got ours there was a stress factor in trying to make sure we kept a close eye on him if he was out in the open.
