DHS What should they do with Animation Courtyard?

So... @lentesta is saying something big could be announced here when Epic Universe opens. What are we thinking this will be? @wdwmagic has previously indicated that an IP has already been selected.

Will it be Zootopia (eye roll)? Will it be, gulp, Simpsons? Or might it be something actually CROWDPLEASING?
I can't find the posts... but I believe insiders were saying the MK, DHS, and AK were "fighting" over what IPs were going in what park.

MK: ended up getting Cars and Villains but almost got Coco, Encanto, and Moana
AK: ended up with Encanto, Indy, and zootopia, but almost got Moana (and zootpia in a different place). Apparently Coco was also a possibility for tropical Americas

DHS was apparently up for Cars and/or Villains... but clearly didn't get either of those. It got Monsters Inc. However, it looks like Moana and Coco were both almost planned for MK and AK. We also have a Coco ride coming to DCA... so costs could be shared.

So my bet is either Moana splash mountain ride... or Coco Land, complete with the DCA boat ride and flight of the alebrije

Here is a crude paint drawing showing FOP main show building (Flight of the alebrije), WDW pirates (boat ride), and the bone yard (a playground).

This would be a great addition to DHS because it would.
1) add a new LLSP for DHS to make money on
2) add a 0 height family high capacity ride
3) add a playground
4) add a new visual area that is different than any other area of the park.

Chance of this happening? 1%... seems too expensive haha.

I think simpsons at DHS is very believable:

It’s a bob iger era acquired Ip, and one that they have been greatly pushing to be a flagship Disney Ip as of late. Synergy potential.

The Food, beverage, and merchandising potential of the simpsons IP is very vast, (duff beer, krusty burger, donuts, and tons of simpsons merch, ect.) and i would not be surpised if Disney looked at what the potential is and what universal has now and saw dollar signs and wanted a peice of that pie

Its a terribly kept secret that simpsons at both coasts is nearing the end, as the contract is running out and universal knows they aren’t getting it renewed, and are preparing a replacement. So Disney will have access to the IP very soon, maybe they work out a deal?

Also, this is more hypothetical on my part, maybe Disney doing a better simpsons land and ride than universal could be seen by management and the company at large as an “epically owning universal” moment? It also def seems like something that’d get buzz from normies.

Like it or hate it, the simpsons is an ip that has a lot of what modern Disney managment is looking for. It’s probably only a matter of time until they show up in some form.

@Streetway Again I think that logic is sound. I don't particularly like it, but that likely means it's 100% what is in current Disney management's collective heads. 🙃

It would be ironic if Disney announces Simpsons as an effort to outdo Universal at "their own game"... Only to give Universal the greenlight to announce Pokemon (which would likely have significantly greater legs) as a result.

I really think Simpsons will get Animation Courtyard and superheroes will get Echo Lake.
Springfield - AC
Wakanda (?) Echo lake?

People want a 5th gate, but i feel that soon enough, DHS will become a whole new park than what it was besides the front two Hollywood streets. DHS IS the new park.

I predict that Disney is gonna remove twilight zone from TOT, but keep a new version the “Hollywood tower hotel” but as a park og theme to throw the fans a bone.

I actually like Simpsons at Uni and it holds a nice place in my nostalgia heart, but I have no interest in it being in a Disney park..
If this is really what is happening, and they are already hell-bent on this path, why not just make it a real animation courtyard and do Simpsons, Family Guy and like Futurama and Bob's Burgers. Again, if they're already going down this path with crude adult animation in the park- then go all out and bring us the best of the best in one whole land. Disney literally owns all these properties.

The Simpsons has already had success at a nearby well branded theme park... Owning the rightsd or not, people think of the Simpsons as a Universal Studios IP....Full Stop. Disney has TONS of Disney created IP that could be used.... and not just Toy Story or Marvel. There is no reason fdor Simpsons in any Disney theme park....ever.

I love the Simpsons but it hasn't been particularly good or relevant in at least 15 years. Also, this is nu-Disney we are talking about. Do you think they are in anyway capable of making an entertaining and funny version of Simpsons land? No, absolutely not. It'll be a sanitized mess as not to offend anyone (story matters team anyone?) and it'll end up being a lifeless and sterile environment that misses on every mark and pleases nobody (except the crazies in LA). The Uni land isn't particularly good by any means but the ride does a pretty decent job of capturing some of that classic Simpsons humor. As much as I hate the IP mandate I can think of at least ten other properties that would be a much better and relevant fit. Please, anything but the Simpsons lol. I really hate being this negative about a place I used to cherish so much.

What about a Star Wars land prequel set during the height of the empire? Unlike Galaxy’s Edge, this land would be fully under the control of the empire. One of the rides could involve a Sith temple. Since the Fox acquisition, Disney now owns the distribution rights to the original trilogy.

If we really think it's Simpsons, what do we think the scale of this development is gonna be? Do we even get an attraction? Easily enough recognizable locations from the property to just make a souped up Springfield from USF, which would print money without having to build a ride. Even as a huge Simpsons fan I have no interest in another attraction themed around it unless it's a dark ride.

I can’t imagine there not being an attraction.
I’d wager a M&G in the Simpson house, Moe’s Bar, Krusty Burger, and some kind of attraction in the Nuclear Power Plant. Hopefully a dark ride of some kind.

I would assume it would have a ride. Maybe like a Soarin'/FOP type flyover of Springfield ride and then chaos happens.

It always feels like that ride system is something Disney wants to bring to each of it's parks. It's already in EPCOT and DAK. The Coco ride in MK was heavily rumored to be a ride with that system flying over the land of the dead...

Futurama is the perfect IP for a Star Tours retheme and it makes me kinda sad that they're so committed to keeping it on life support right now. These next few years I think will be the final window of relevance for Futurama to get any theme park development and I just don't think the circumstances are right for anything to come of it. Maybe a Slurm stand if they went with a "screw it, Fox animation land" theme for Animation Courtyard.
