What should Disney do with the next new resort to target adults???

Being that the new suites at AoA have finally been shown to the world, and there are people here in another thread who have opinions on both sides as to whether they're appealing or not- obviously these are targeted toward families with kids.

So, what 'adult' themeing would you like to see in Disney's next resort to target those without kids? And 'adult' theming in the not nasty sense of the word! :hammer:

What do you think they'll do or what would YOU like for them to do with the next resort?

In the many years that Disney has been running and creating resorts, I am certain that they have considered it and even researched it's feasibility.

Of course they have.

They are building fitness suites! My guess is they have researched just about every idea we could come up with. I know they have looked into setting up a presence in Vegas and decided not to becuase it would harm the brand. I'm guessing this will never happen for similar reasons.

As an adult, I don't really wanted themed rooms. I think the rooms at YC and Wilderness Lodge are fine the way they are.

I would like to see adult amenities offered at the 'adult' themed hotel.
I would like a bar that is open until 3 am.
The hotel should have 3 or 4 signature restaurants with amazing unique cuisine.
I would like in room spa services offered.
A luxurious bathroom with whirlpool tubs and plush robes.
I am not a pool person, but a beautiful pool with a swim up bar would be nice.
I know most people won't care, but I would like a nightclub where I can dance the night away.
Free wireless in all of the rooms.

Sounds like Disney needs to work with Four Seasons and finish the proposed Four Seasons Resort.

Great question and some great concepts!

To the people challenging this idea-the OP was asking what Disney could do to target adults without children. He didn't say anything about banning children. There shouldn't be discussion of that.

I don't have children and I often go solo. Two of my favorite resorts are the Dolphin and Saratoga Springs. Both are very good resorts for adults.

I look for a comfortable king size bed, good coffee, a gym, 24 hour restaurant, good pools/hot tubs and internet with decent bandwidth. The Dolphin has all of that and with incredible location.

Disney should include all of that and more if they target adults. The Four Seasons is aiming for that. I think the new health/wellness rooms at the Contemporary are also.

The World Showcase resort is a great idea. I would definitely stay there!

You're actually making my point. Disney is already doing things to target adults.

Yes they are doing things because Disney is a much for adults as it for kids. The question was what could Disney do for its next resort to target adults.

(For the record, and you may already know, The Dolphin is not Disney owned. Neither is the proposed Four Seasons)

Walt Disney World is always a work in progress and never rests on it's laurels. It will continue to expand it's offerings for adults and we are just having fun coming up with new concepts.

I think it would be fun to keep the disney themeing but do it in a upscale form like the disney cruise ships have already mastered. I love to have a adults only resort where no kids could stay and have a villians theme

I've only ever done adult trips as i have no kids and am quite fine with the types of resorts available now but I really miss pleasure island and most especially the adventurers club. A resort with that theme would amaze me but i'd settle for just a few decent bars and clubs scattered around the property that don't allow kids for those of us that could use some time away.

Some of the "pushback" we've seen on this thread is because the ^ opening post ^ seemed to indicate Disney needs to target "those without kids".

All of the Moderates, Deluxes, and Villas are perfectly themed and targeted towards adults without kids.

The opening of Art of Animation is a great addition, but it doesn't mean Disney now needs to make a similar move to attract more childless adults.

They're doing just fine in that area.

Hate to sound like the old fart in the room, but part of the problem of trying to cater to adults at WDW is that many of the adults at WDW are there to unleash their inner child (or just act childish, whichever the case may be).

There's an album I picked up somewhere called "Date Nite at Disneyland." In fact, I may have picked it up at one of the WDW parks, but it's a cd-repack of a much older vinyl album. It leads me to believe that, Once Upon An Olde Tyme, you'd fine lounge-y entertainment for adults only, where grownups could enjoy come cocktails, listen to a big-gish band play some upbeat numbers as well as a few cheek-to-cheek slow songs. Probably of a more "innocent" time where people wouldn't think anything of either putting kids to sleep in a hotel room and leaving them alone for a few hours, or letting them run around unattended without fear of being abducted. Now, me? I'd love to see a lounge like that in a resort in which I was staying, provided I was on a trip with additional family I'd feel comfortable watching the kids while my wife and I had a grownup night out. But really, are there enough people who really want a night like that anymore? With a big band, and more elegant cocktails? Or is it listening to the same nn-tiss-nn-tiss music your kid are listening to, just without the kids there? Where you can get hammered without getting judged by tiny eyes?

As far as resort themes go, I find the more muted themes of Saratoga Springs, Old Key West, Port Orleans, and the monorail/Epcot resorts to be "adult" enough. They're not no-kids-allowed, but neither do I feel like I'm walking into an over-indulged man-child's man-cave when I walk into them, either.

Lounges with mature singers providing mellow entertainment.
Maybe a comedy club (or comedians who rotate throughout the existing lounges in the resorts, so there's a comic in each resort once or twice a week).
A "gentleman's club" aesthetic (though without a gender bias), much like the sort of club the Adventurer's Club was lampooning. A place where the grownups can not only have some drinks, but perhaps play some cards or chess if anyone has an inkling, read, talk without impressionable ears listening.
Restaurants open later in each resort, even if it's with a more limited menu
And as others have mentioned, the option of in-room spa treatments
And if some of those things can not be done in each and every resort, inexpensive on-site car services that will take people from resort to resort that would still be part of Disney transportation (though transportation you'd pay extra to use) and that wouldn't take you offsite.

But really, it's all a moot point. We're in a "the customer is always right" world, and barring actual bars where you'd legally have to exclude people under the age of 21, any place you'd want to go will have children there, and often they'll be poorly-behaved (usually because they're off their schedules, being park commandos from dawn to dusk, eating poorly, etc) and if you complain, the parent's response will be "hey, I paid $X to be here, we're going to do whatever we want, you don't like it, leave!" And any attempt for there to be something nice for grownups to enjoy will be botched. And that, of course, is assuming all the "grownups" can agree on what constitutes Disney-appropriate adult entertainment. For most people, I think they'd be fine having a place where they can bump and grind, play Wii, and drink with impunity...act like teenagers without worrying about being carded, really.

Unless your name is Meg Crofton you don't get to make that decision.

I would love to see some new resorts that are attached to a park allowing even more "magic hours". These resorts could be "park specific." Studios could have the most possibilities. Disney could add a resort to the back of Tower of Terror to make it a true "Hollywood Hotel", go the the other end of the park with a "Intergallactic Space Port" theme attached near Star Tours or just stick with an art deco style "Floridian Escape" theme. Anyone interested in reservations?
