What should Disney do with the next new resort to target adults???

Being that the new suites at AoA have finally been shown to the world, and there are people here in another thread who have opinions on both sides as to whether they're appealing or not- obviously these are targeted toward families with kids.

So, what 'adult' themeing would you like to see in Disney's next resort to target those without kids? And 'adult' theming in the not nasty sense of the word! :hammer:

What do you think they'll do or what would YOU like for them to do with the next resort?

most of these dont seem very "Disney" to me
It is supposed to be a fun place to bring a family
If you want more adult theming universal seems more of a fit for you
Personally i prefer the ambience of the disney resorts....just my 0.02 cents

I understand what you're saying, but my question had to do with What should Disney do to make the next resort more adult themed, since they clearly have resorts specifically aimed at families with children.

I agree that most of the mod's and deluxes could be seen as adult hotels since they dont have a lot of Nemo, Lion King, etc. just for kids, however many families with kids still go there and the kids still enjoy themselves.

But can Disney do to cater MORE towards just the adults in the next resort?

This had probably already been said a million times but I'd like to see a more adult-ish value resort. I have no problem with the value resorts now, but its all we can afford if I go with my boyfriend and the themes are all kind of similar. (well not similar because the themes are different, but they're all in the same area, with the huge icons, etc..) I don't know how they'd make a value for adults, because I think everything adults like screams 'deluxe'

I don't get it. Aren't there over a dozen resorts currently on property that are designed with adult sensibilities in mind?

Short of opening a "no kids allowed" resort, I'm not sure what you could possibly be looking for. Aside from maybe the All-Stars, all the existing resorts currently target adults.

That brings up a good question: Should there be a resort or two that is strictly for those 18 and over? Would that go over well?

I am just wondering why a bunch of people think they need to "target" adults. If your going to WDW your a kid at heart and want those types of things. If you want an adult vacation go to Vegas.

Not an adult vacation , just an adult place to stay. I asked the question because so many here talk about the resorts catering to just kids or kids with families. I agree that most of the resorts that exist now (Poly, WL, AKL, CSR, etc.) are considered adult resorts.

I'm asking the question to see what everyone thinks if Disney specifically tried to target just adults; because apparently some don't think that the resorts mentioned above do that necessarily. In the end, to actually do that, they may need to have a resort that allows no children; i don't know, thats why I'm asking.

As you have pointed out, they are already targeting adults. So really, people are just answering with resort ideas they like. Because Disney can't do any more to target adults than what they are already doing (resort wise).

If Disney wants to target adults, they'll bring back some more adult entertainment a la Pleasure Island. That's how you target adults.

I rather like the idea of an "adults only" resort. Maybe something in the 'moderate' or 'deluxe' range. Truth be known, I'd bet there are thousands of adult couples that go to WDW every year without kids (either don't have them, left them with family, or they're grown up and on their own).

The thought of staying at a resort without kids screaming and running around does sort of appeal to me. Don't get me wrong, I like kids and I love mine, but he's 30 and on his own.

Well I am just one big kid so keep on going Disney. But Disney is a kid/family/large kid(adult) destination. If they would put in a couple of nice resturaunts at say CSR then that would really be a great adult place. Ya upgrade a few rooms to have a few better things for adults like the inroom spa would be nice, but to exclude kids outright I never see that happening at any Disney property. Just does not fit the mold of them. Had Pleasure Island and got rid of it because of that mold, and adults when drunk are jerks at times.

Ok, but again, I'm asking about the resorts, not Pleasure Island. With the ideas that people have given, apparently Disney can certainly do more to target just adults.
Me, you, and maybe some others already consider the existing resorts to be adult or for adults; doesn't mean that Disney, for instance, set out to target adults when they created the Poly, I figure-and I could be wrong- that they were concentrating on the actual Polynesian theme. It just so happens that there's not a lot of kiddie stuff there-although they have the Lilo and Stitch breakfast at Ohana in the Poly.

Just saying that as of right now, I don't think there is a Disney resort that you can consider to be just for adults where no kids would stay there or kids would even consider wanting to stay there because there's nothing for them.

As of right now, there are families with kids that have stayed at every resort at Disney.
The original question was just an inquiry of what everyone thought about it. But don't get me wrong Lebeau, I definitely see where you're coming from with your responses.

Maybe the question(s) I should have asked is what I mentioned before: Should there be a resort strictly for those 18 and over?

It may not be needed, but would it attract those that want to at least stay somewhere where there are no kids?

I understand where you are coming from. I do! But...

Regarding the original question, what possible theme could you come up with that would be adults-only? Most of the themes for existing Disney resorts have no appeal to most kids. None. Not saying they won't like them. But I've never heard as kid ask to stay at a Polynesian themed (or Mexican or whathaveyou) resort.

The current resort themes (aside from the All Stars) are meant to appeal to adults. Even the Pop is aimed more at adults than kids who don't remember the 20th century.

So, I don't think there's a good answer to the original question other than "What themes would you like to see?"

As for an adults-only resort, people would go crazy! The press would slaughter Disney. People would complain. It would be a terrible move on Disney's part.

I could see them creating an area within a resort that didn't allow children. A small area. But it hardly seems worth it.

I've been without kids. It's great to go without kids. But I don't need Disney to specifically target me as an adult because there's already plenty there that appeals to me. The fact it might also appeal to kids or that there are other things that appeal more to kids than to me doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Look, kids and WDW are inextricably linked. If you want a vacation that is targeted exclusively to adults, there are better places to vacation.

Why? I don't see what the big deal would be. As masterful as Disney is at marketing and spinning things, it should be a snap for them. I just think that some folks may like the idea of not having kids running around a resort (pop warner or cheer as an example) or having to ride the bus back from a park late at night with exhausted and/or cranky kids and parents. Been there, done that.

This doesn't mean I don't like what Disney has now in the way of resorts, it just means I think it's an idea they could think about.

There was an uproar of sorts when Victoria and Alberts began refusing children under age 10....

In the many years that Disney has been running and creating resorts, I am certain that they have considered it and even researched it's feasibility.

Headline: Disney Shuts Out Kids at New Hotels

Pundits: "What's next? A Disney Casino?"

-------------

I see why it would be appealing to avoid other peoples' kids while you're on vacation. But to the general public, Disney World is for kids. And if Disney actually excluded them from an entire hotel, the media would pounce on them for it.

Heck, people made waves about kids being barred from V&A's! And almost no one brought kids to V&A's anyway.

The meager rewards in catering exclusively to adults don't merit the risks. Plus, it's not in Disney's business model. Other vacation destinations will always do it better.

Again, I could see a few suites being built like the fitness suites that would be 18 and up only. But not an entire hotel. And even that is a stretch.
