The only problem is Trademark Infringement....any promotional materials that Disney produces with the phrase "Chinese Theater" must specify that it is "A replica of the TCL Chinese Theater".

Also, there can be no signage on the building that refers to it as "Chinese Theater"....hence why all of the signage specifies that it is in fact "The Great Movie Ride".

As it's the replica of a real Hollywood Icon, the Great Movie Ride Building is here to stay. :)

What's also interesting is that this is not the only theme park with a Chinese Theater...Parque Warner in Madrid Spain has one used for 3D movies..

I vote the Earful Tower but at the same time I know they are trying to move away from the whole 'studios' thing so, who knows.
This park has had an identity crisis for a long time so we could end up with absolutely anything.

I think that once they do come up with a theme/identity for the park during this makeover (I'm sure they already have) that they will announce the new park icon. Hopefully it will go well with the new design.

I gonna to vote Other because to get away from a Studio theme they gonna put up a facade of the Hollywood Hills and sign instead of Chinese Theaters like they did in Califorina. In fact I believe they are gonna redo the whole Paradise Pier in Florida as a Atlantic City boardwalk amusement park in the back.

Honestly, I think it should be the ToT because it's already used in some promotional material as the icon and it looks like an icon and it's already there. Besides, and I say this completely off-hand, but the Sunset Boulevard section of the park probably won't be touched. The other parts need help anyway...

I thought it was interesting that on the tags and keychains I picked up in September that the icon for DHS was once again the Tower. I had not been since 2009 but all of the things I had from 06, 07, 08 and 09 were the hat. I was very glad to see it when I bought them and wondered if that didn't mean the hat was a goner. Really hope that the closure of the Backlot that the Tower will remain! It is as important for me to see when we get on property as the gate!

Well...I was headed to look at the shirt I bought in August because I too thought that it had the Earful Tower on it. And I was going to comment that the park already had an icon that had been "forgotten" (Earful Tower). Some people beat me to these comments. :)

I voted Earful Tower for this reason. But I agree that it is way out of the way to be the icon. Maybe they could move it. Or I think it needs to be something totally different to fit with the new theme if they are trying to move away from the movie theme.

I really like the Mickey on top of the place your rent your lockers.

Is the earful tower even going to survive the closing of the back lot tour? Is that confirmed?

I like the earful tower for what it is but the earful tower isn't that awe-inspiring to me, just isn't grandiose or big enough to be frank to me. It would, to me, be outshined by the other park's symbol. (Tree of Life, Cinderella's Castle, Spaceship Earth and the Earful Tower. Does it compare to you?)

I picked other. No idea what, there just isn't anything else there that fits to me. I'm more interested in the proper location of the next "symbol" should it be something new though.

1. Relocate the Earful tower to a new, more directly visible location (in front of the park gates, maybe). Make that the icon for WDW merchandise.

2. Make the Chinese theater the central "weenie", or the icon that draws people in, even if Disney prefers not to use it on merchandise. Reinstall the sky spotlights to give it more of a sense of grandeur.

Two separate icons for two separate purposes.

Blink, blink. Breathe, breathe. Day in, day out.
It might as well be a Star Wars icon... Heck, the park might as well be "Star Wars Land with 3 popular attractions that made the cut!"
