Sorry but the chinese theater is not a disney icon, never was, never will be.

They will come up with something good.

1. Neither are Buckminster Fuller's geodesic spheres, but that doesn't stop Spaceship Earth from being a Disney Icon.

2. The Chinese Theater is an icon of Hollywood....which is more than fitting for a park named "Disney's Hollywood Studios" (possibly being changed to "Disney's Hollywood Adventure"), and meant to celebrate the glitz and glamour fantasy of "Hollywood that never was...and always will be."

May not be a Disney icon...but I would personally consider it a park icon for DHS. I get where you are coming from that it is not a Disney original but it is hard to deny that the building/structure at the end of the main entrance of any of the parks ends up being a quintessential trademark of that park intended or not...

I know that I have seen a logo for Disney World Resort (with the four big icons) and the theater was the one for the studios. I cannot find it anywhere, but I would stake my life on the fact that I have seen it. It was just like this, but with the theater as the icon.

I'm not sure the Tower of Terror could really work as a park icon since it's duplicated so much. Seeing it on merchandise doesn't scream Hollywood Studios any more than it does California Adventure or the Walt Disney Studios Park in Disneyland Paris. The other park icons are all unique to them. The closest any come to duplication is the castle but each one is unique.

I don't know. It doesn't look too bad as the park's icon. And it doesn't completely fit with the (possibly) old theme of Hollywood movies.

The earful tower looks great on a logo.
Unfortunately, it doesn't come close to measuring up live and in person. (if you even can find it)
It's simply pathetic compared to the other 3 Park icons.
Something new is needed.

Then there were the promotional glass tumblers that Disney released via McDonalds.
They featured the Earful Tower prominently on the front, with smaller images of both the Tower of Terror and the Great Movie Ride on the back.

Lumiere is taller than the Theater. That's rather disheartening

I actually wish they would just relocate the hat to a less crowded area, and just keep it as the park icon. It's iconic as it is, fits the theme of Disney/Hollywood, and is totally non specific unlike the ToT and CT.

Just got back, noticed that many of the items we bought had the Earful tower as the Studios Icon instead of the BAH.
However, it was the Earful tower wrapped with film strips. I could see that working well for DHS.

The Earful Tower WAS the perfect park icon.

But now with the SBT closed, will people even see it?? It doesn't really make sense anymore as a park icon.

MK has Cinderella Castle. EPCOT has Spaceship Earth. AK has the Tree of Life. These are all architectural icons that dominate the landscape of the parks as you enter. You cannot avoid seeing them, and you don't have to seek them out. They are purposefully in plain view. And they are huge.

That's why I voted for the Chinese Theater for DHS. It's DHS's "castle". ToT wouldn't be a bad choice, but it would then be the only park icon with a height restriction.

Don't mind the Chinese Theatre either. I leaned toward Earful Tower because it is, well, more iconic.

Clearly they're re-vamping the majority of the park attraction-wise, but are they really re-vamping the theme? I don't think it makes economic sense to completely redo the theme of DHS because you'd have to change the foundation of the park. I say they re-create Mickey's fun wheel ride in DHS but make it a movie reel - that's easily an icon of classic Hollywood and mirrors the icon of DCA.

I am a traditionalist and prefer the original - Chinese Theater.

BUT, I do love the idea of a Walt Statue. Remember that guy? The one with the innovative vision, the one who wasn't all about corporate greed? Yeah, we should bring him back to the forefront of everyone's minds. Might do the suits some good to be reminded of what the Disney brand once was. :)

Another Partners statue... but with Walt holding hands with Eisner & Iger :p:p:p

If indeed the façade of TGMR is going to repurposed, then I think the statue of Walt arriving in Hollywood in the 1920's that was placed in the new DCA should be the icon. Just for the fact that the park represents Hollywood of the 1920's in the front! Or maybe BIG LETTERS that spell HOLLYWOODLAND like those used for DCA entrance!? But I
still think there should be a BUILDING to represent any park.
