I was torn between voting for the Chinese theater or "other". I really think the theater is beautiful enough to be an icon that represents a park about movies... But I'm also thinking that maybe they could come up with something more unique and awesome for whatever it is they're planning. Hmmm...

I was also about to vote for the earful tower, but that represented a time when the park was a working studio. I guess it's time to move away from that "studio" theme. I wouldn't be upset if it was chosen as the icon again. Lots of history with that thing. It would have to be moved, though, because yeah, no one is going to be able to see it.

I almost chose The Chinese Theater, but picked other. I'm just not sure it says enough to be an icon for the park. It will be interesting what they come up with. Maybe something that displays or shows a tribute to all the Disney characters from the movies?

The trouble with having the Death Star as the park icon is that it could be easily destroyed by a corn dog in the exhaust outlet.

"Uh, it's like it's got a self-destruct button. What kind of idiot would design that?"

Seems like on of the big arguments for the Chinese Theater over the Earful Tower is it's prominence when entering the park. If they plan to redo the entire backlot area though, what's stopping them from either moving the tower or building an entirely new one as a prominent fixture in the new area of the park or near the entrance?

If indeed the façade of TGMR is going to repurposed, then I think the statue of Walt arriving in Hollywood in the 1920's that was placed in the new DCA should be the icon. Just for the fact that the park represents Hollywood of the 1920's in the front! Or maybe BIG LETTERS that spell HOLLYWOODLAND like those used for DCA entrance!? But I
still think there should be a BUILDING to represent any park.
Hollywood Blvd and Sunset Blvd are more 1930s-1940s than 1920s. Of course, Buena Vista Street is also more 1930s but that doesn't stop Disney from saying it is 1920s.

I guess my only issue with TOT is that it exists in various forms in several other parks...and its kinda at an odd spot to be the icon...sorta...but then again, so was the water tower... heck if I know! They can just use the AT/AT!

I liked the Chinese Theater, but it really isn't a "Disney" icon per say. I guess the Earful Tower would be nice. I also like Tower of Terror, but again not really an "icon". I don't know. Tough question. I am sorry to see the hat go, but it did "take away" from the original look of "MGM" Studios with the Chinese Theater. Boy was I surprised when I read it was goin! But, I know so many people who are really happy about this! What brought it on? Was it the Disney fans who helped make this change? Are there plans for something new?

I don't think it was the Disney Fans as much as Disney wanting that space for shows. It was mentioned in the rumors and news board on a couple threads that Disney wants to do firework shows at least on a semi-regular basis.

DHS is going to have a lot of construction that will cutback the amount of attractions and Disney is trying to find ways to keep guests in parks longer as a result. DHS is going to be construction through 2019.

Wow! That's a long time! I guess I'll have to celebrate my 50th birthday at DHS when it gets itself all together!:jawdrop:

I feel like with the park changing it's identity in a way from (working studios) to more Hollywood Adventure-like, that the Earful Tower wouldn't fit at all as the park icon. For that matter, neither would the Chinese Theater. Again I argue that the hat is far superior in it's symbolism, just sadly placed in a poor location. The TOT in my opinion would also make a lousy icon, because as having two kids of my own who don't even want to look at it as it scares them so, it seems that's not the image Disney would want as a symbol for a park of theirs.
