The one thing that I miss the most is the Disney Smell. It's been talked about before on other threads.
For me, it makes the most sense as smell is the sense that is most powerful for memories for people who utilize both sides of the brain equally. For left-brained people, it's sound. For right-brained people, it's visual. For bi-lobal, it's smell.
I took a course in Neuropsychopharmacology and we studied this phenomenon. There is a very small percent of the population that uses both sides of the brain equally, and when we did the tests, it turned out that I do. And while both visual and auditory cues stimulate memories for me, smell does so much more strongly.
I still get memories of Horizons when I smell oranges, and the smell of water in large fountains evokes memories of Small World or POTC. And then there's the Disney smell, that smell common to most indoor attractions. It's a slightly musty smell, caused by the combination of A/C, humidity and a certain mould found in sub-tropics.
Plus we get to spend a lot more time together than we do in the mix of work, school, sports, and what not.
My first trips when I was younger was mostly about the thrills I was having.
When you get older the best thrills are the ones you see in your childrens eyes.
I miss most the tug my 9 year old little girl gives on my arm when we walk onto Main Street for the first time, and she's saying " daddy daddy, look there's the castle!" It blows me away everytime.
So if you see an old 52 year old dad with tears in his eyes, you'll know why.
Interesting post DisneyDragon! I must use both sides equally as well, because it's always the smells that trigger my memory the quickest.
What I miss: leaving reality behind and allowing my kids to just be kids.
No school bus bullies, or overdue homework :animwink:
So that explains why I get that warm fuzzy "disney" feeling when I smell certain smells...LOL. I guess I use both sides too, because smell is my strongest sense, especially when it comes to memories. I would also have to say all the scents that are all over WDW is what I miss the most.
