What One thing do you miss about WDW?

My first trips when I was younger was mostly about the thrills I was having.

When you get older the best thrills are the ones you see in your childrens eyes.

I miss most the tug my 9 year old little girl gives on my arm when we walk onto Main Street for the first time, and she's saying " daddy daddy, look there's the castle!" It blows me away everytime.

So if you see an old 52 year old dad with tears in his eyes, you'll know why.

i asked my kids and they both said EVERYTHING! i although miss the feeling of stepping out of my life away from work, homework, and bills everyone is so happy and nice ( most everyone that is ha ha) it sort of rubs off on you. at home you are more likely to see someone flip you off than smile at you sad as that may be. well that is what i miss and it is why i will pick a vacation at Disney before anywhere else no matter how many times i have been there i will never get bored with that feeling of peace i get :D

Don't think I am weird or anything but....I always think about and miss the scents of WDW the most. Everywhere you go in disney, has this unforgettable, fresh smell. I don't know if you know what I am talking about, but I love it and I always think about it when I'm not there.

And of course, I know this is one more thing, but i always miss the MAGIC!!

I feel like a million pounds have been lifted off of my shoulders, and while I know that reality is right outside of the gates nothing seems to matter...except for how much fudge I have left!

Great thread!!!! :) It makes me think of things that I should pay closer attention to the next time I get to go.

I miss waking up and going to play in the parks with Rob (my bf), then a nice lunch, a little midday nap, more fun at the parks, a delicious dinner, evening at the parks, and falling asleep tired and happy. Wait.... isn't that being a kid again? I miss that feeling!

The one thing that I miss the most is the Disney Smell. It's been talked about before on other threads.

For me, it makes the most sense as smell is the sense that is most powerful for memories for people who utilize both sides of the brain equally. For left-brained people, it's sound. For right-brained people, it's visual. For bi-lobal, it's smell.

I took a course in Neuropsychopharmacology and we studied this phenomenon. There is a very small percent of the population that uses both sides of the brain equally, and when we did the tests, it turned out that I do. And while both visual and auditory cues stimulate memories for me, smell does so much more strongly.

I still get memories of Horizons when I smell oranges, and the smell of water in large fountains evokes memories of Small World or POTC. And then there's the Disney smell, that smell common to most indoor attractions. It's a slightly musty smell, caused by the combination of A/C, humidity and a certain mould found in sub-tropics.

So that explains why I get that warm fuzzy "disney" feeling when I smell certain smells...LOL. I guess I use both sides too, because smell is my strongest sense, especially when it comes to memories. I would also have to say all the scents that are all over WDW is what I miss the most.

Warm fuzzy for me too!

I miss IASW the most... The sound of the wonderful obnoxious music, the smell of the chlorinated water, and the feel of the wonderful a/c on a hot Florida day!

*happy smile, envisioning the Hawaiian part of the ride*

Oh, a close second would be the lobby of the Poly.

The thing I miss most is the happy feeling I get when I'm there...I truly don't worry about anything when I'm in WDW. And I smile all the time, at everybody, and I feel like I love everyone, no matter what. Wish I could hold onto that out here in the real world!

Walking from the resort bus stop to the room at 11 o'clock at night.

The cool, but still humid air. The din of crickets. The magical scent of landscaped grounds (and pressure-cleaned rugs). A gift shop, still open, but only for 10 more minutes. And fillin' up good Ol' Betsy, aka the refillable mug. :)

The joy on the kids' faces when they see Fantasmic for the first time....the hilarity when mine stands up and screams with all his heart.... "no Mickey..don't rub the magic lamp!!"... cause it's real!

I miss the time spent with my kids relaxing and enjoying being a family. I don't have to worry about homework getting done, if rooms are picked up, etc.. Plus we get to spend a lot more time together than we do in the mix of work, school, sports, and what not.

So true...like a lot of families these days ours is always running around trying to "get things done"...I really got to hang out with my daughter so much on our trip...it was so great just to be with her without having to "accomplish" anything.

I also love the Disney smells and music....but specifically, I miss just being able to take a walk around the World Showcase...I love it so much, and I never get tired of it! Main Street at night is also something that I really miss...can't wait to go back!

A big high-five from Canada on that one, my friend. Got to see it in my 3 year old a few years ago, turning into excitement the year after.

Now it's time for my son shortly...can't wait!

Interesting post DisneyDragon! I must use both sides equally as well, because it's always the smells that trigger my memory the quickest.

What I miss: leaving reality behind and allowing my kids to just be kids.

No school bus bullies, or overdue homework :animwink:

To prove it, try to describe a Sunday morning. If you think of the smell of breakfast cooking first, you're probably bi-lobal. Coffee is the easy one, it's the combination of eggs, bacon and syrup smell that proves it.

Phew - trying to keep up with the replies here, and keep them fresh.

I have a funny feeling that Disney fanatics - the people who really 'get' it - may be absorbing the parks on many levels - hence the predominance of bi-lobal 'fanatics' - those people who recall on smell most of all.

I am going to try this theory out on people I know - friends, family, etc. - who've been - where I know the level of interest. This could be interesting, especially since one of my friends, who's a fan (not a fanatic) took the same course that I did...
