I hear that all the time about the Jettas. Everyone I know loves them, but they spend more time in the shop for electrical problems. Same with the Golf, but no one seems to have any problems with the Passats. Someone told me that was because the Jetta and Golf are made in Mexico while the Passat was made in Germany.

I came so close to buying a Passat, but this smaller dealership which specialize din used Saabs gave me such a good deal on the Saab I bought that instead. Then got laid off 4 months later. I was a Saab fan - I had a 9000 before and loved it, but they are becoming more and more like the other GMs now. This one uses so many of the same parts as the Saturn that I wonder if I shiould have bought one of those, instead.

I still would love to have a nice 900 SPG!
My first car was an '88 900 Turbo. I wanted either an SPG or a 9000 Aero. But of course, being 17 at the time, my budget was limited, and ended up buying a nice cherry red 900 turbo. I had it for 5 years before buyng my Jetta. When I sold it, she had 198,000 miles on her.

Indeed, Saab is getting more GMized now. The new 9-2 is nothing more than a rebadged Subaru Imprezza (ACK!) and the new SUV is nothing more than a rebadged Saturn Vue/Chevy Equinox. (UGH) But I'll still take a 9-3 Viggen/Aero convertible any day!

It's a shame that a company with such innovation can be both saved and ruined by a global conglomerate.

Actually, from what I have seen, the 9-7 is like the Trailblazer, while they are talking about a 9-4 that would be a crossover. One of those Eurpoean magazines (Top Gear, I think), had an article on it.

What is getting to me, is that every time I go out and buy parts for it, I discover that they are the same ones used in the Saturn LS. Why didn't I just get that?

Anyone have/drive the Acura TL?

When I sold it, she had 198,000 miles on her.

Right where I was! I decided it was time to trade it in when the tranny started going. Kinda miss it, though. Wonder if I shouldv'e fixed it instead?

I drive a 2002 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer V8. I bought it without having any intentions of buying a new car. It was the spur of the moment.

Trailblazer/Equinox... it's all the same GM crap.

Ahh yes, I had to get a new transmission at about 180k... probably should have just gotten a new car at that point, but *shrug*

I find it even sadder that the Saab is now the "best WRX to date"

Wow some of you must be making the big bucks judging by the cars you all drive! :D Well I'm happy driving my brand new 2004 Saturn Ion. Hey it's a million times better than my old 85 Ford Tempo or my 91 Dodge Spirit!

The Trailblazer is a large GM SUV, in two wheelbase configurations, and underpins a variety of products from Isuzu, Olds (Now gone), GMC, Buick, and now SAAB. (The 9-7 is based on it.)

The Equinox is a small GM/Suzuki SUV, based on the Saturn VUE that replaced the Tracker and is meant to compete against entry level SUVs such as the Ford Escape. (If you ask me, the 'nox looks like a Minivan, and lacks the superior engine of the VUE).

The future SAAB Cross-over is to be based on a new Subaru platform that will flush out the high end of Subaru.

Used to make a lot. Not anymore, alas. Actually, they are not that bad in comparrison. You pay a little more up front, but you usually end up being able to hold onto them a lot longer. I think it depends alot on where you drive - up here with the aggressive driving and bad curvy roads they make sense. I am not sure they would be as popular down south somewhere.

Some crossovers do well. The Colt had a fairly long life. As did some of the Geos. And the Escort (mazda 323/protoge). I thought Vauxhaul was the same as Opel, only a different name for the UK.

So is Saab going to make any of their own cars?

They need to bring back a modern version of the Sonnett... a nice 2 seater roadster that is NOT borrowed from someone else. :)

Up untill a few years ago here... I have been driving crap and beaters my whole life (except for my tricked out 1987 Volvo 240 GLE, God I loved that car...lol)...

I got so sick of the insanely high repair bills and the deprecation on my investment... that it was driving me mad... and to the poor house...

So... I started buying relatively new, certified pre-owned cars... with a warranty... and I have never looked back to beater cars *knock on wood* So in the long run... it saves me money.. and a bit of my sanity

 I was driving a Chevy pickup...until one day when I went to fill it up and it cost me $50!!! (and I needed to do this on a weekly basis...actually more than a weekly basis...about every 5-6 days). I decided...why have that money burn when it could be going towards something. That day, I drove to the BMW dealership...test drove the Z4...then I did a little more shopping (I did love the Z4...but seemed too..."hoity toity" for me) I then drove to the Toyota dealership, hopped in a Spyder...then hopped out as fast as I got in because it was really uncomfortable and tiny...and that's when I headed out to the Nissan dealership, sat in the Z...turned the key, heard the growl from the exhaust, "Bad to the Bone" was on the radio  (I think that's the reason I bought it...perfect song for a guy looking for a "cool" car to drive  ), hit the open road, got a great deal...and haven't looked back since.

So, in essence...I took the money that I was "burning" on gas...and put it towards the car payment. (I went from getting about 14-15mpg to about 29)

The good news is I've heard they might revive the Sonnet. The bad news is it will likely be based on the Solstice.
