what kind of car do you drive?

Gary, btw...Motor Trend did a little comparo on the "cool roadsters"

1. Porsche Boxster
2. Audi TT (not sure...the fast one lol)
3. BMW Z4 3.0
4. Nissan 350Z Roadster Enthusiast

(and that is the order they got ranked)

Pretty decent synopsis of each vehicle...my only complaint is that they did the top models of the Porsche, Audi, and BMW and did the bones empty model of the Z...(and then they go on to say "cheap interior feel" as one of the faults). I dunno, maybe they wanted to prove that a car that costs 10K less can still compete with the big players. (Then again...Motor Trend also did a comparo with a Focus and a Gallardo...(granted, the focus was a $100K+ suped up model).

Still love that aluminum dash in the Z4 though :sohappy:

I read that article, and I honestly felt like they were pulling their rankings out of a hat.

Consider the 2nd place Audi - Dead last (by a good amount) in 0-30, 0-60 and 0-100 times. Dead last in quarter mile. 3rd in braking, 3rd in slalom, tied for worst in skidpad, and dead last in figure 8.

How did that end up taking second place in a sports car comparison?!?!

Add to that the prominent placement of the Audi in the opening photo and the positive comments about styling for a car that I felt was clearly ugliest of the bunch (exterior anyway), and I can't help wondering if Audi was slipping them some money under the table.

HAHA!!! I noticed that the other three in the photo were way in the background compared to the Audi too!

(I thought (by their testings) that the Bimmer should've been second with the Audi dead last...but...oh well...they also said that the rear end of the Z doesn't look sporty...what looks sporty about that Audi? It looks like a squished beetle. (Granted, I do agree that the Z loses some of it's "flair" in the roadster model because the lines of the coupe are lost).

I'd agree, and that would put them all in line (except the Audi) by price. You pay more you get more. I crossed the audi off my list early because, while it's a very nice car, it just didn't seem to compare by price. They didn't have the six cylinder back then, but even for a 1.8 liter four cylinder front wheel drive hard-top you were looking at over $33,000, and that just seemed crazy to me considering what else was available. When the TT first came out, it didn't have much competition, but they've got some serious work to do to stay competitive in this class.

And when it comes down to it, I don't know why these magazines feel the need to rank the cars anyway. Everybody's looking for different things, so why not give us the numbers and subjective opinions and let us make our own decisions? I don't think I put nearly as much weight in fender dimples matching the interior gauge dimples as the reviewers clearly did.

A lot of reviews have been saying that about the CTS to... Pffffft please... c'mon... I have the wood package to... (dont go there!) :lookaroun .. and there is no "cheap int. feel" whatsoever from me... or anybody else that has been in my car... I mean... I have no problems with my INT. and love it. And I think back in 03, the CTS actually won an award for best designed interior.. I have to look it up... Anyway... *shrug* I am happy.

The CTS may cost less ...but still... it can and does run with the big German dogs.

Same with my car...my car is a "sports car"...who the heck wants all the bells and whistles in a sports car...especially when it will just weigh it down. (What more could you want? I have heated leather power seats, auto-dimming mirrors, 6 speaker stereo with subwoofer, etc.)

The interior door material is my favorite...they call it "cheap" I call it "different"...and it gives it that sporty feel. (It's almost like an embossed plastic...very nifty)

Leather wrapped steering wheel, shifter , e-brake, and boots. Very clean center stack, and usable cup holders (although...a bit out of place). The entire gauge housing moves up and down with the steering wheel so you always have perfect sight of all gauges. What is wrong with the interior???

I love the cup-holders in mine. They're these two fllimsy clips that pop out of tiny slots in the dash. The thought of putting a "Big-Gulp" in one of those things reminds me of the South Park episode in which an elephant makes love to a pig.

I imagine something like the following conversation took place a few years ago:

Hans: Gereidenshanzer fahrtenshubergandingchinerfrignozen weirbofondenfleishingtreemker. (Translation: Morning)

Gerhard: Juergenfuhlergranferweirgenshnitzenweirgroining teirgrandenwohnengreinfronkentrenken herbringjoingfreuntgartren. (Translation: Morning)

Hans: Ach nein!!!! Wier habben der glunkenglunkenglunken nicht incluuuding! (Oh, no! We forgot to add the cup-holders!)

Gerhard: Was!!!! Wie berfluschen hergen freugenloonde jurdenden fur der Americanischwein. (What! We need those for the American Market)

Hans: Ja, der Americanischwein gerflunken dreise reizengroining weirbattenfregen grefnengranken darferwenken fur heurbing grandgen zeiisengen frembden greizes. (Yeah, the Americans can't put down their burgers, fries and soft drinks long enough to drive anywhere.)

Gerhard: Nicht gerfrengen longreonging dreise granger frenken dremden shreiber lankten en grengenfrunken. (Don't worry, we can use our large German brains to squeeze amazingly engineered folding cup-holders into these tiny slots.)

Hans: Dranden worgen larfen granger dreaben jeungrafengran Amiricaniswein traterfreigen? (But won't those collapse and spill beverages into their fat, American laps?)

Gerhard: Ja. (Yes.)

Hans: Ha, ha, ha, ha! (Ha, ha, ha, ha!)

Gerhard: Ha, ha, ha, ha! (Ha, ha, ha, ha!)

ROFLMAO!!!

I have two located in the center console (that would be able to hold a Big Gulp with ease...and I have a third one (it's a two seater...why are there 3 cupholders???) that pops out of the dash...that looks pretty flimsy...I've never "tested it"

Speaking of interiors...I have a beef with mine...The glovebox is behind the passenger seat...where is yours?

(The engine compartment is so packed that they couldn't put the glovebox there...so in the "rear speaker housing" there is a "glovebox" on the passenger side...and the subwoofer on the driver's side.

I've got one in the traditional spot (but it really is a "glovebox", it would have to be much larger to be a "glove(s)box"). I've got my registration, insurance and mini-owners manual in there and there's literally no room for anything else.

I've got a reasonable sized compartment that opens between the two seats and has some storage area that's behind the seats between the subwoofers. I can fit a cell phone about 20 CDs and a few other small items in there. One thing I learned (after losing a supplier's business card on I-295) is to stash everything in case I want to put the top down.

Saabs have the coolest cup holder. It rotates out of the dash board, and then the holder itself rotates into a horizontal position. Everyone who gets in teh car has to play with it.

Too bad it only has a little bar to hold a cup and is too small to hold any cup I have yet found. But it is fun to play with.

They also have a (in)convenient cupholder inside the arm rest bin. As in you have to open up the armrest bin to use it, which doesn't stay up on it's own. But its there. I think it was an option when it was new, too.

I am trying top find some kind of cupholder I can put in so I can at least hold my soda bottle.

I proudly drive my white '91 Cadillac Sedan DeVille with red leather interior. It's at somewhere around 195,000 miles. I just fixed the two biggest problems with the car (a coolant leak and had to replace the Vax cylinder in the ignition) and now it's running fine. Certainly not a car that I could keep for a long time, but it's good for going to school and everything right now while I save up for a nicer car. I only paid $1000 for it so I believe it was well worth it.
