That's horrible. :( It happens here, too. And of course by then the poor kids don't have a chance.

I'm gonna put my $.02 in here. I am a cat-owner (seal-point Siamese...almost 14 years old now). I hate to see any animal treated in that manner. However, I agree with Maria. Don't take the guy away from his child. Some punishment should be given out. It should also fit the crime. Even though I'm a cat-owner, I know that a cat isn't the same as a human. He doesn't deserve to be put in jail for this. He DOES deserve some type of community service. Make him work at the animal shelter cleaning up the cages, maybe.

I also didn't see the point of the man's lawyer saying that he went to church and played the guitar...so did Jimmy Swaggart.

Well, here is what we see in America:

Guy commits crime
Guy gets sentenced for 20 years
Guy serves 5 years
Guy is free

Yeah...if they keep him in jail longer, it'll be "overcrowded". Then the ACLU (Anti-Commonsense Lunacy Union  ) will be suing that these criminals are being treated poorly.

More stupidity in the legal system then. :hammer:

*sigh*

Again, yes, you did miss my point.

Yes, raising dogs to fight is animal abuse. And those that do it should be punished. And YES, the people that do it should receive the same abuse the animals received. Hurting a human is a crime, yes, but when that human hurts, and destroys another living creatures life, they should immediately lose their right to life also. You put animals on a lower plane than humans, and, for you, thats fine. For me, its not. I feel strongly about the treatment of animals, especially animals that we are responsible for. Of course, a newborn baby is going to take precedent over a dog. But allowing, and accepting the way some people treat animals, like you do, is Bulls***. Im not trying to be an A****** here, but people like you ________ me off. Your like the guy who backed over my dog because he was in a hurry, than said "who cares, its just a dog". Sure, its just "a dog" to you. To others, its a respectable living being. A being which "we" are responsible for. Sorry, I dont see your light hearted views on animal treatment the same way. Animals are punished for being born everyday, as are humans, neither is right.

Tim I didn`t mean for this thread to get out of hand I just posted it cause It made me mad and I thought I should post it. I wonder why their is such EVIl in this world, but I guess it`s just not for me to know. I love animals, but I don`t put them on the same level as a human, meaning if there was a burning house and a dog and a child were trapped inside,I would try to save both but if I couldn`t I would save the child first.

I don´t think you have the right to compare me with someone who killed your dog. You do not know me, and if my posts upset you, please put me on ignore and do not read them. You also totally missed my point, blinded with your hate for other human beings. You think it´s right to make someone pay that much for something he accidentally did to your dog.... be thankful it wasn´t your kid the one who was behind his car! That is why I do not put animals in the same level as humans, and without intentions to bring up religion into this, that´s why God created us as the superior animals we are by giving us intelligence.

Ok, well first off, my dog was never killed. Second off, I dont want to put you on any kind of ignore list. Third, Im not comparing you to anyone.

I may be lighting a fire I shouldnt be, but I cant apologize for it. I also may not be coming across in the way I want. Im thinking hard here, so please, give my thoughts, a second, well, thought.

Yes, humans are above dogs in the chain of life. But not all of them. I have a 70lb Husky/Lab laying next to me here. Last year this dog pulled a knife wielding, would be rapist, off my sister who was out jogging at the time. Would I have this guy put down before the dog? You bet. We, as humans, are mostly responsible for domesticated animals. There are lots of bad people out there, and we have a million things to blame "their badness" on. But when it comes to domesticated animals, we ourselves are 99% responsible for them, and their actions.

Maria, Im sorry if I came off like an a**, I know your point, and I see your side, I just hold animals to a level thats on a whole nother scale. Just like people are raised poorly, and uneducated, so are animals. And humans are to blame for both. In a way, I feel more for the animals than I do the people that were raised wrong. Im not trying to start an argument, or a religous war, Im not a religous person. I just cant stand to see an animal hurt by a human, and the excuses that follow something like that really get to me. Again, Im sorry, I didnt mean to blow this out of proportion.

You seem like a really good person, and Im calmed down now, off my soapbox, so again, I apologize. Go have a Dole whip and and a Fastpass to your favorite ride on me. Thanks for hearing me out. :xmas:

Apology accepted.
I never said that I condoned this guy´s actions towards the kitten, I was very concerned and only stating that taking him away from his newborn daughter and destroying a family by sending him for four long years to jail, seemed way too much for me, and I didn´t think that would be a solution. Counseling for it, yes, but sending him to jail was something that for me, would create more troubles instead of fixing the existing one.

I still think animals are not in the same level as human beings, but I don´t deny that one can develop a great love for them and viceversa. I know cases of pets giving their lives for their owners, but as Darrel said, I would always choose a human life if I had to over a pet´s life.

There were dogs and cats at both of my grandparents houses so I know how it is to have very loved pets. I was in love with one of the dogs while I was a child. We don´t have any pet right now, because our lives are busy and on schedule and there is no time for us to take care of them. We have always wanted a dog, but we don´t have the heart to make it suffer our lack of attention if we are not home to take care of it, so we prefer not to have it.

I agree that the owners are responsible of their dogs, and I can´t believe some people train them to attack other people. It´s an abuse to the animal and to other human beings which is even worse to me. :(

If you also give me the entrance ticket, sure, I´ll go have the Dole Whip! I´ve never had one...

Hey Darrel,I don't think this thread has gotten out of hand.

I think it's great that we can all discuss this like reasonable adults.

I must say this has been one of the better thread discussion's we have had in a while.:D
