What is the "major announcement" Uni is making on Thursday?

These additions sound fantastic. Pastamore was, to me, the weakest of CityWalk's dining options so I'm glad Universal is starting from scratch with a new concept. Latin Quarter was my favorite actually but I'm sure Antojitos will be good too. And CityWalk was in need of some real Mexican food.

Cowfish is the one I'm most looking forward to. Sushi AND burgers? Yes please.

I bet not more than 3 of these exist at your local mall. Starbucks, Menchie's, and Cold Stone Creamery are the only national chains. There are only 2 Cowfish and neither of those are in malls.
So link to your local mall, please. Put up or shut up.

If not, feel free to post links to local malls with Ghirardelli, Wetzel Pretzel, Earl of Sandwich, Rainforest Cafe, etc.

But a family E-ticket with possibly a show and new flat ride is definitely in the cards for Seuss Landing. The projected timeline everyone's showing on Orlando United (more blue sky thou!) is something like this:

Summer 2014 - Potter 2.0
Holiday 2014 - JP expansion (jr. woodie, flat ride, and slight upgrades to existing rides)
Summer 2015 - Kong/Skull Island area (with a family-leaning E-ticket)
Holiday 2015/Spring 2016 - Seuss expansion of some sort
Holiday 2015-Summer 2017 - a slow roll-out of a completely revamped KidZone
Summer 2017 - something new for Toon Lagoon
Holiday 2017 - probably something small for USF... something for London/maybe Potter 3.0
Summer 2018 - whatever will come to the World Expo/open expansion plot area

2019-2022: time range for the rumored 3rd gate/water park

Comcast is getting VERY ambitious
Right... Never said a Seuss landing project was dead, just that some trusty people mentioned Lorax was dead... but as I just said to Martin, I could have misunderstood what was said in a podcast regarding backing up whylightbulb's comment about Lorax dead in the water... I hope Seuss gets something spectacular... I really like that land in IOA...

I've made special trips to CityWalk for mini golf and BMG, but never strictly to eat. I could understand going there for dinner and a movie if you live in one of the adjacent neighborhoods, but otherwise it's just not convenient enough. I'd never dream of going to DtD for that reason.

While not Malls, there are 3 Earl of Sandwiches in the Florida Turnpike Rest Areas.

There is a Rainforest Cafe in an Outlet Mall called Opry Mills in Nashville.

There are Wetzel Pretzels in 175 malls across the country.

And there is a Ghirardelli Store in the outlet mall is Wisconsin.

So while not as high brow as full blown regular malls, I found outlet malls and interstate rest stops.

Your point is?

It will be better.
Not for me. I don't want a show. I don't want gourmet. I want Pastamore.

I'm always singing the praises of that place around here and am not grumbling just to grumble. It really is my favorite restaurant in Orlando.

I'm going to need a restaurant funeral or something, so I can officially grieve it's passing. :(

I pray Disney puts one in. Please, God, let this come to Disney.

Its a solid line up that will bring new tastes, original concepts, bold new looks, and diversity to a district that stood between me and the parks. I can find myself eating at several of these locations numerous times. On top of that its great to see they are going to do this all in 6 months vs Disney's 2-4 year phased roll out, which is sure to contain 12 media events and a bunch of the same styles of food we see here.

Just wait until Disney announces its food line up for the Springs. All of the haters will instantly be humping Disney's crippled leg over the exact same foods. Just wait… I mean really just wait because Phase 2 of the CW rebranding will be wrapping up a full year before the Springs is finished.

Local mall with a Rainforest Cafe:

Menlo Park Mall in Edison, NJ... yes, local mall to me...

Ghirardelli is is many outlet malls:

Outlet Shops
Atlanta, GANEW! The Outlet Shoppes at Atlanta
Lathrop, CAChocolate Outlet & Ice Cream Shop
Livermore, CALivermore Premium Outlets
Milpitas, CAGreat Mall
Ontario, CAOntario Mills
Pleasant Prairie, WIPleasant Prairie Premium Outlets
San Leandro, CAGhirardelli Corporate Headquarters & Factory Outlet

Wetzel Pretzel located in several malls in NJ: Freehold Raceway Mall, Garden State Plaza (two locations actually), and Willowbrook Mall... Not to mention, DH stated 175 malls around the country...

Please, make sure you know what you are talking about before trying to make an argument... Cause you just failed in trying to make your case, but helped us who are saying DTD is nothing but a mall...

There are two Rainforest Cafe's in Illinois Malls. One at the state line near Wisconsin, cattycorner from Six Flags in the Gurnee Mills Mall and one in Schaumburg IL at the mega mall, WoodField.

Ghirardelli Ice Cream Shoppe and Candy Store in DownTown Chicago is amazing and frankly far nicer than the one at DTD.

Great. Now I'm going to have to go to Ghirardelli's and get my fix soon and it is freezing here. lol

Love what Universal are doing with attraction additions in the parks, but this line up is not very exciting. Nothing really unique, and not very exciting to look at. Nothing here to bring me into CityWalk.

Cowfish is about the most unique fast casual concept I've heard of ever. You can't tell me tourists who stumble upon it won't be going home and raving about the "cheeseburger sushi" (assuming it can deliver the goods). If this had landed in WDW, it alone would have three threads on the News & Rumors board.

Mexican place is apparently doing a tapas-style menu. Sounds like it will be a bit different than your typical Chevys/Abuelos. What we've seen of the facade looks promising. I think we should reserve judgment. Same goes for the Italian place--it looks like they are aiming slightly higher than another Olive Garden, although only time will tell if they pull that off.

Earl of Sandwich draws a fair number of people to DTD. I imagine Breadbox might do the same for CityWalk, and if not, hey, another quick-serve option for anyone leaving the parks, going to a movie, going mini golfing, hitting the bars ...

Hot Dog Hall of Fame is just a gimmicked up hot dog stand, similar to Casey's. It's a novel way of serving quick-serve food, which CityWalk still needs more of.

Cold Stone and Menchies are exactly like Starbucks--no one goes to CW (or DTD) specifically for Starbucks, but it serves a need for those who are there anyway. I do think Menchies got the short end of the stick in location.

That said, I would like to see CityWalk's nightlife revived. Clubs are getting a bit stale, and the place never had the cohesiveness of a Pleasure Island or Church Street Station. But I don't see that doing this necessarily means they can't do that soon.

I have family in Raleigh, NC that has raved about cowfish before. Here's a video of the two founders explaining it during the media event this morning.
