What is it the Universal does BETTER than Disney?

I love Universal alot, they are great parks. I'm afraid all of Disney's parks are just more well-rounded and complete, whereas Universal's strength and downfall is that it's pretty random, with great and mediocre attractions placed every which way.

Actually, I would say that's more true of Disney than Universal.. Seeing how Universal has less attractions so their quality ratio is better and all the best attractions are condensed into two parks. No room for 'Gran Fiesta Tour' in Universal.. No 'Chronicles of Narnia Trailer' or 'Stitch's Great Escape' there either..

And nothing at Universal is outdated compared to some of Disney's attractions. I'm sure depending on who's looking at it, some might say classic and another might say outdated, but come on.. Don't **** a ****ter.

A company can be profitable, but still not beat the competition.

Example: Burger King is profitable, but it does not outdo McDonald's, which is it's competition. This doesn't impact the fact that Burger King is still profitable.

A company can do better than it's competition, but not necessarily be profitable.

Example: Station Casinos in Las Vegas outperforms and brings in more money than MGM/Mirage and therefore beats it's competition. However, Station Casinos has had much more expenditures in the past three years due to opening two brand new, upscale properties and acquiring several others. Consequently, they have not been profitable in the past few years. This doesn't impact the fact that they still have beaten their competition.

Okay, then I think you meant not mutually inclusive.

A company can be profitable and beat its competition (Walmart/Kmart and Best Buy/ Circuit City). It’s just that one does not automatically follow the other.

For us as consumers, we are best off with the two parks in competition. What if one resort switched to strictly up-scale, or adult? That would remove it from the competition and allow the other resort to slide.
For now, I like to think of the area as Disney + Universal + SeaWorld, not vs. each other.

In principle, yes. But it doesn't appear to be working out that way. Disney seems to be focusing more on just being profitable, and not really caring what the competition is doing. From a stockholder standpoint, that would seem fine, but only in the short term.

Since you ignored the first part of my post, my guess is that you are too embarrassed to own up to not knowing the meaning of the phrase “mutually exclusive.”
And you owe DizneyPryncess an apology.

Or let me guess...you're gonna ask me to step outside?

And I do know the definition of the phrase. I'm not sure you do, but I didn't see how it pertained to the topic we're discussing. :hammer:

So you did know the meaning, and decided to use it incorrectly just to through us off - clever.

The only thing Universal does better is the ExpressPass system.

WDW should have a similar setup for deluxe resort guests only.

I'd love to see it, but it'll never happen. Remember, Universal has a total of about 2,500 rooms. The Deluxe Resorts at Disney alone have about 6,000 rooms, not including DVC.

Though, some food for thought - Disney has 4 parks as opposed to Universal's 2 to spread out those guests. I'm not saying this would work, especially because of the fact that Disney only has FASTPASS for certain attractions (unlike Universal's tendency to offer Express for everything).

I'll tell you something else I would assume Universal does better - Give notification whena ride is expected to close for refurbishment.

Disney closed Living with the Land today at Epcot with no notification, and hasn't even updated the website yet. I called Disney to get confirmation and their own employees didn't even know about it. The woman I spoke to had to call Epcot and get confirmation.

That sucks.

The best point I've seen in this thread was the merchandising one. For a few years now I've been disappointed in the merchandise selection at WDW. Universal still manages to have attraction specific merchandise at the gift shops, plus there's great stores on City Walk.

IOA is well enough themed that a lot of people on these boards would love it if it were on WDW property. It's done just as well as any Disney park.

And as a day guest, I really prefer that parking garage to the lots at WDW

Heading for the great escape.
I can understand people having different opinions on attractions, but some of the absolute tosh being posted on here to justify an irrational dislike of Universal makes me question whether the care in the community program has gone too far.

Or is their a blind loaylty program Disney offers that gives discounts?

However, back to the thrust. I like Universal as no one in my family is sub 12 so I feel our likes are being ignored by the Mouse as it positions itself as a family destination, where if the marketing material is to be believed, the family seems to comprise exclusively of young kids, insipid parents and coffin dodging grandparents. Universal is slightly edgier, is as well thought out and created as Disney and has more attractions with bollocks. Their resort hotels are on par at least with Disney, they actually have a functioning night time entertainment district, and despite the usual clichés on here the CM’s are just as good/bad as at Disney.
Just my opinion, no empirical evidence to substantiate my claims, but let’s face it, my opinion is as good as fact.

What Uni dies better

Thrill rides
Adult stuff like the Halloween stuff

I know this is a Disney versus Universal thread but so many people are talking about thrill rides and Halloween stuff. If that is it, save your money on a flight to Florida and head to Ohio. Cedar Point is number 1 for a reason. . .

Many people enjoy theme parks where you're treated like an adult. Cedar Point might have some killer roller coasters but it offers minimal theming and immersion. Kings Island is a bit better and has some semblance of a theme in areas, though the stripping away of the Paramount licenses hurt it in this area. They're fantastic amusement parks... but poor theme parks.

And as a footnote, their halloween events leave a lot to be desired when compared to Halloween Horror Nights or even Howl-O-Scream, but that's a whole other story.

Universal actually themes their thrill rides. And no other park can match the quality of HHN with their 2nd rate Halloween events. So Cedar Point isn't "number 1" on either of these points.
