I did nor t avoid your other points, just felt no need to comment/make my point further as you were obviously in a Universal does no wrong phase.

I would have to disagree with this, Skip from my memory on these boards in Universal-realted discussions has presented a balanced and realistic view on said park.

Thanks. :) I try to stay as unbiased as possible.

No outdoor entertainment.Characters were few and far between.Team Members that were helpful/friendly were not present.Welcoming at Disney-Tickets please. Thank you! Have a Magical Day. Universal. Tickets. The rides-off the top of my head. 4 non-thrills/simulators.(I did count Jimmy Neutron. Along with MIB,ET,Shrek and Jaws) at the studio. I did nor t avoid your other points, just felt no need to comment/make my point further as you were obviously in a Universal does no wrong phase.

A majority of the team members I interact with at Universal are very friendly and helpful. The same goes for Disney. There are bad apples in both bunches, but you seem to like to single out Universal.

You clearly were closing your eyes as you walked around the park if you see no outdoor entertainment/characters. Blues Brothers plays daily in New York, Star Toons goes on at the Kidzone, Egyptian Stiltwalkers chill near Mummy, the Marvel heroes parade into the Marvel area, Jurassic Park Rangers carry around baby trikes, there are regularly scheduled storybook readings at Seuss Landings, and characters such as Jimmy Neutron, Dora, the Simpsons (though not back in 2006), Doc Brown, Men in Black agents, Beatlejuice, Bullwinkle, Cat in the Hat, Grinch, Woody/Winnie Woodpecker, Curious George & The Man in the Yellow Hat, Scooby, gy, Spider-Man, Rogue, Storm, Captain America, Wolverine, and Lucy are all regularly out and about. And that doesn't include all of the other excellent shows at Studios and Islands (with the exception of Fear Factor - that one sucks!) Nice try.

Non-thrill attractions at the Studios? Jimmy Neutron (stationary seating if you must), Twister, Shrek, Beatlejuice, Disaster, Jaws, Men in Black, Fear Factor (though bleh, who wants that), Animal Actors, Horror Make-Up Show, Terminator, and E.T., not counting the small-child attractions like Barney or Nuthouse. I count far more than 4... in fact, there are only 3 thrill rides in the Studios, two of which were open at the time of your trip, Mummy and BTTF (now Simpsons)! Again, nice try!

I'm in a "Universal-can-do-no-wrong" phase? Given your past posts in this discussion along with your overall attitude, I'd say that you're in a "Disney-can-do-no-wrong" phase if anything.

We tried to see entertainment at schedules times with nothing there. Some of the things you listed as non-thrill rides are simulators or rides many familes dont enjoy. I have no Disney bias and as I said went into Universal the same way I go to Disney-ready for a good time! I also have encountered bad Disney cast members, more in Universal though.

Then how could you not see the various entertainment offerings that I KNOW were existing in some form in 2006?

Care to point out which ones you're referring to? Jimmy Neutron, while a simulator, offers stationary seats, as does Shrek 4D, which also has seat movement. Last time I checked they're actually pretty huge family attractions. Twister maybe a little frightening to small children, but the 7 and up crowd enjoy it, as do families in generally... Disaster is so lighthearted and amusing that it's hard to be afraid of the Earthquake sequence, so no dice... Men in Black is pretty enjoyable for anyone who meets the height requirement last time I checked... E.T. is the park's PREMIERE family ride... Terminator is more cool than scary given the reports I've been told from parents with small children... Horror Make-Up Show, while a bit gruesome, is a lot like Disaster in that the comedy outweighs any fear that could arise during the proceedings... all the others are most certainly family attractions.

I have no Disney bias and as I said went into Universal the same way I go to Disney-ready for a good time!

Again, given your previous statements and attitude, I'm inclined to disagree if you somehow couldn't find attractions to enjoy or entertainment to view.

I also have encountered bad Disney cast members, more in Universal though.

Really? I'm pretty sure they pull from the same crowd of employees and run employee standards on par with Disney's. Could you cite some incidents that occurred during your ONE trip in 2006, as opposed to your (assumed many) trips at Disney? There's such thing as a bad day - I've gotten to Universal where the employees have been excellent, but on another not so great. I've been to Disney where the employees have been awesome, but on another they were rude and grumpy. It happens. They're human, the parks do not have omnipotent control over their actions.

Remember,nothing againt you Skip!

And the same goes to you. :)

I see your veiws everywhere EXCEPT this one:

We had the same attitude we go to Disney with! The entertainment and rides at the studios were not as great as some of Disney's to us.

I just wish you could explain the problems with the entertainment and rides you encountered. It's fair enough that you didn't enjoy it, it's just now that during this discussion you've made quite a few slightly ridiculous statements that bashed Universal and attempted to glorify the Mouse.... so hopefully you can understand my suspicion. That's all.

MOST Entertainment and rides seemed more geared to older teens/adults.

Terminator, Disaster, Horror makeup.

Not really, definitely no, and no.

(sigh) As I've already explained:

Terminator tends to be cooler than "scary" - it's really no more intense than "It's Tough to Be a Bug!", which is considered a family attraction that is scary for some children.

Disaster is a comedic attraction - the preshows are joke-filled and teach you some basic skills of film making, such as blue/green screens, taking multiple shots simultaneously, and the effectiveness of good editing. The Earthquake portion is clearly emphasized as a film set - and the announcer on board even tells you to react big, maintaining this fact! Definitely not particularly frightening, and definitely aimed at EVERYONE.

Horror Make-Up Show is still, I believe, a no-. I've never seen a kid get scared , cry, or otherwise have to be removed from the theater - in fact, they all were enjoying themselves and laughing right along. Several of the jokes are even aimed at them! While there is the scary sequence of monsters, there's ample warning to cover the children's eyes if need be - and it's never caused any issues as far as I can tell. The show's funny and educational and is a attraction everyone can enjoy.

Your move.

I live in the Orlando area and I have worked for both companies. It AMAZES me to read these forums and others all over the internet, and people post their trip reports. I read of ones from Disney and Universal.

I have actually seen the Disney ones state they had a horrible time, the parks were too crowded, too many rides broke down, stuck on the monorail for 45 minutes, had to wait 30 minutes for a bus, the food was too generic, and they felt the service was declining. But then they said "I however loved it and would forever keep going there."

They that SAME poster will post about Universal and say the SMALLEST detail not being perfect, like how their locker at Hulk wouldn't open and say how horrible the place is and that they can't believe such a place exists next to the ALMIGHTY AND POWERFUL DISNEY WORLLDDDDD!!!! HALLLLEEELLLUJIAHHHH!!! HALLLEEELLUJIAHHH!!!

Those people are stubborn and don't want to give anything else a try.

Theming? Universal actually does theming better than Disney. Splash Mountain's queue line? Back and forth outside, then up some stairs through a barn, then through a cavern. No stories being told. Space Mountain? Through a tunnel, back and forth, ride. No story. Here's some examples:

So yea, next time someone says Universal looks like Six Flags needs to re-evaluate their vision.

I wish i got to experience the dragon queue, it looks unreal from the videos I have seen. I really hope they dont retheme too much but im sure they will

I like Universal and always enjoy going there. Now far as comparing parks in total meaning food, resorts, activities and accomondations, then Disney wins over all. Nothing magical about Universal at all and its not like Disney where I want to take my kids as a right of passage. Universal is a fun place but not one where I want to stay and vacation at. Lastly the customer service at Disney is far superior then Universal. I stayed in Universal and did not like the customer service and felt I was at bussiness conventions. Then we checked out after our two day stay and proceeded to start are Disney vacation and felt like I was in a place where dreams do come true. Just my take on the two.
