If anyone remembers "grok" (As in I grok you) not only are you older than dirt, but you were a sci-fi nerd, too. How about "We're/it's golden?" :lookaroun

I've been called emo on many occaisions when clearly I am not. When I tell my friends that someone called me emo they just laugh. I do listen to some music that can be classified as emo (Something Corporate, Ok Go, and The Format [which is only slightly emo]) only because it is good music.

And I do have one jacket that my friend (who is a girl) gave to me when it was cold that I still have and wear on occaision. It's small, but it looks good on me.

No girl pants, though. No way. Even though my cousin (who is a boy) has a few pairs and told me I should get some.

:lookaroun

I'm not emo, I swear.

Doesn't ska predate 70s-80s punk? By a couple of decades, I think.

I checked into it. Originallly came out in the 60's from Jamica.
Apparently, what I always thought of ska as is what is the Third-wave of ska. Not the original ska from Jamica but influenced by that and punk. Some of the bands fall in to the category of Ska-core.

"Third-wave ska" is a late-1980s/early- 1990s revival of ska,
involving such bands as Weaker Youth Ensemble, the Allstonians, Bim
Skala Bim, the Voodoo Glow Skulls and The Toasters. Many popular
rock/hardcore/funk bands, such as The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, are
strongly influenced by ska sounds. In the last few years, some bands,
like Hepcat, Steady Earnest, the Allstonians, Skavoovie and the
Epitones, have recovered a roots ska sound.

Call me Mr. Butterfingers!

(Come on there has to be UHF fans out there.............anyone?)

And for the record, I HATE the whole emo scene, punk/hardcore/emo music (I know they aren't the same thing, but they are similar enough), and especially Green Day, who might be my least favorite band ever. But hey if any of that is your thing, that's fine. Don't worry I get made fun of because of my favorite bands all the time

I always thought emo people to be overemotional, sensitive over the top artists of my prior high school. They hung out together, died their hair black with many different colors, claimed to be outstandingly original but really look exactly like eachother.

HAH I rememberrrrred something funny that happened today - I was at the gym and these "emo" girls (do emo people even go to the gym??) were talking about Simple Plan being EMO...now I'm no music critic (I'm stuck in the 70's haha) but I am almost POSITIVE that Simple Plan is NOT emo.:p Can anyone vouch for this?

Bah....sorry for the story, University re-starts tomorrow after Christmas break. :(

Simple Plan is pop-punk. Mostly pop. Like Green Day. I don't like either.

Most people have never heard of the true emo bands.

Reminds me of one of my favorite South Park lines.
Stan: What do I have to do to be a nonconformist?

Goth Kid: All you have to do is look like us, think like us and listen to the same music we do and you can be a nonconformist.

Could there be any more truth to that?

Welcome to Uncle Nutsy's Funhouse!

Glad I'm not the only one.
An old friend of mine dated Weird Al's keyboard player for a while. Weird Al is quite an interesting and incredibly smart guy.

Okay, now I understand what EMO is.

I kept hearing the term being thrown around by the cheerleaders at our last game and I was like w/t/f is that????

Our cheerleaders are not EMO, but know kids who are.

Oh, and I have seen those boys wearing girls pants. I just thought there was gender confusion - didn't realize they were trying to make a statement.
