What is a Lapu Lapu?

Heard this but didn't know what it is, I'm taking it some sort of a cocktail?

Yes, it is a cocktail that is available at the Tambu Lounge (and therefor 'Ohana) in the Poly. It a lot of run, orange juice, and sour mix. It comes served in a hollowed out pineapple - which is really what the attraction is.

What Dave said. It's yummy yummy! When I finishthe drink I like to scrape the alcohol-soaked pulp from the inside of the pineapple and savor it. I promise you if I thought for a moment I could get my face down in there to get at it I'd do it in a heartbeat. Also good at the Tambu Lounge is the Back Scratcher. That's my 2nd favorite! :slurp:

Lapu Lapu

:slurp:My girl friend and I visit the parks monthly and for us a Lapu Lapu served by Walt at the Poly Hotel is a must. Only one is needed for pure refreshment.

Kiddie Version?

Does anyone know if they will allow a non-alcoholic version for kids or just an adult that doesn't drink? My kids would love a drink in a pineapple!

It's pure evil...that's what it is. I had heard about the legend but had never tried one. Last year at DW, my fiance and I hung out at the Polynesian and we tried one (meaning one for the both of us) before we hit the park. Well, either my bartender was generous or whatever, or it was the heat and fatigue combined, but I was feeling it after a few sips.

They are excellent but maybe not a good idea if you are a lightweight, if you plan on a long day in a park, of if there are children present.

I'm sure you can order a v-version for the kiddos. I know when we've ordered a v-backscratcher for our son it was basically the juice in a glass with the trimmings. Look at the recipe & make sure all the juice ingredients are okay with your kids. Mine can be sorta picky when it comes to juices. :p

I've had them made where you could only barely taste the alcohol. The drink was super smooth and tasty. I've also had them made so strong the the kick made my toes curl. The one time I got one super strong I got halfway thru it then asked our waiter (dinner at Ohana) to bring me a glass of juice to dilute the rest. He brought back a 2nd tart Lapu Lapu & the juice. Me & those drinky-drinks had us a gooooood time that night. :slurp:

Well, between Mrs. Toad and Sweetpee 1993, I am intrigued and fully intend on trying one this September. I usually settle for a mild-mannered Pina Colada but I think its time I step up my game and try an adult drink.

A Pina Colada from the Tambu Lounge is still one of my all-time favorites.
