A New Realm at Disneyland Park (Opening 2019)
Created by Team Loki: (@MonorailRed , @Dark PerGron , @ThemeParkPriest , @Brer Panther , @AceAstro , @cdunlap , @Disney Warrior )
At the Team Loki lab, many ideas were tossed around for what could be placed in that large northwestern plot of land at Disneyland, but the winning idea was a land themed around New England, mixed with autumn and horror elements.
This idea was chosen because horror (as a concept for a land) was underutilized in the park, since most other lands are based on film genres. It was decided to combine this idea with an autumn-themed land inspired by New England, and as some people say, “the rest is history.”

Established in 1621 (the year of the first thanksgiving), the tavern quickly became popular for its warm, relaxing atmosphere, as well as for its amazing New England-style food. Residents also flock to the tavern because it is a safe respite from the outside curse. The exterior of the Autumn Breeze Tavern is inspired by multiple historic taverns in the area, such as the White Horse Tavern in Rhode Island, the Wayside Inn near Boston, and the Dorset Inn in Vermont. The interior of the restaurant also evokes that late 18th/early 19th century tavern vibe with rustic wooden seats, tables, and benches. The windows project autumnal mountains and trees with red, brown, yellow, and orange leaves, and relaxing colonial music is playing to further suggest a calm atmosphere.

Must-See Attractions
Nightmare of Sleepy Hollow Hay Ride
Featuring The Muppets
Queue
The queue involves a series of wooden fences that lead to the historical “Sleepy Hollow Schoolhouse”–the one at which Ichabod Crane is the schoolmaster. Inside there are black-and-white “class pictures'' of Muppets that attended the Schoolhouse. Sam the Eagle is the teacher in all but the last one where Ichabod Crane (Gonzo) is seen. Many of the Muppet babies are found in or another of the class pictures. In addition, the first one has 2 bunnies, the next one 3, then 5, then 8, then 13, and the last one has 21 (demonstrating part of the Fibonacci sequence).
Technology
The Hay Wagon ride vehicles provide seating similar to the Kilimanjaro Safaris but with 6 rows of 4 guests. Pulling each Hay Wagon is a tractor of one of an assorted set of bright colors. The Hay Wagon rubber wheels ride on disguised concrete slabs to keep the ride low maintenance. To add to the feeling that guests are riding on an actual hayride, the wagons bounce slightly up-and-down, similar to the effect found in Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.
To give the impression that the Audio Animatronics are in-fact Muppets controlled as puppets as in Muppet shows and movies, the AA’s are disguised behind rocks, bushes, hay bales, etc. From a practicality standpoint, this makes it easier to hide some of the hydraulics and other AA parts.
Scenes
“Dr. Honeydew here with my trusty assistant Beaker (Beaker: meep). You are enjoying Muppet Labs latest invention–the Way Back Tractor Ride! We are traveling through historic Sleepy Hollow on Halloween of the year 1790!”
After the Hay Wagon departs the station, it turns a corner to find a scene involving the three main characters–Ichabod, Katrina Van Tassel (Camilla), and Brom Bones (Pepe). Katrina clucks at Ichabod to which Ichabod replies, “O Katrina, you think I’m the bravest man who has ever come to Sleepy Hollow? Well, you know, I get scared sometimes.” Brom then says to the guests, “I think I can scare Ichabod silly. And then she will fall for me!”

As the wagon leaves the Schoolhouse, the Electric Mayhem (“A-NI-MAL!”) are playing the “Headless Horseman” song from Disney’s “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” which gets piped into the on-board speakers (see ) at the relevant times on the ride.
The song mentions “They get together for their nightly jamboree.” The jamboree is taking place on a sports field. The ensemble features skeletons (such as Dead Tom) playing other skeletons as musical instruments. The whole scene is based on Silly Symphony’s “Skeleton Dance” ).
The song mentions “ghosts” with “horns,” “fangs,” and “no skin.” Many of the Muppet monsters–including the Fazoobs, the Snerfs, Uncle Deadly, Big Mean Carl, Behemoth, Gorgon Heap (“You look good to eat!”), Sweetums (“I’m the tall one!”), the Clodhoppers (https://muppet.fandom.com/wiki/The_Clodhoppers?file=Clodhoppers.JPG), and Tom/Dick/Harry–now surround the wagon.
View attachment 716583
After passing through the monsters, the wagon approaches a solitary Muppet tree. A sign by the tree reads “Major Andre’s Tree” (https://muppet.fandom.com/wiki/Trees?file=Character.tree-ss01.jpg). The tree says to the guests, “Before the Horseman gets here, you better leaf!” On the other side of the vehicle, a few Muppet pumpkins are sitting on the ground. One says, “Well, at least my cousin got to be his head this year!”
The Hay Wagon comes into view of the stately Van Tassel house in the distance, where the Halloween party is going on. Horses are seen outside, the house is lit by candlelights, and the shapes of some Muppets (Fozzy Bear, Miss Piggy, Rolf) are seen in the silhouettes. The song continues “the one that’s cursed is the Haunted Horsemen.” A horse neighs loudly followed by its clopping. The sound grows louder, indicating that it is getting closer to the wagon. As the wagon turns a corner, guests see the terrible sight–a black version of Paul Revere the Horse (https://muppet.fandom.com/wiki/Paul_Revere?file=Paul_Revere_gallerybox.jpg) mounted by the Headless Horseman (played by Headless Bill and wearing a Muppet Jack-o-Lantern as a head, https://muppet.fandom.com/wiki/Headless_Bill?file=Headlessbill.JPG). The horse says, “He wants your head.”
A chase by Headless Horseman ensues. Although the wagons do not pick up speed, the loud clops of the horse and its neighing add to the intensity of the scene. The wagons go past “Raven Rock” (besides a sign, guests will notice a Muppet raven in the rock wall) where the shadow of the Headless Horseman is seen on the cliff wall.
The song continues: “But [make] for the bridge that spans the brook. For once you cross that bridge, my friends, The ghost is through, his power ends.” Ichabod points ahead and shouts, “Get across that bridge!” The hay wagon approaches a covered bridge with a sign pointing to the “Old Dutch Cemetery” ahead. In the covered bridge, with lights off, guests hear the Headless Horseman closing the gap to the guests. A light-up Jack-o-Lantern whizzes by the right side of guests’ heads only to be smashed at the far end of the bridge. As the wagon departs from the bridge, Ichabod exclaims, “He missed! Wait a second! He can’t cross that bridge. We’re safe!”
As guests approach the school again, Kermit asks, “You’ve just experienced the nightmare of Sleepy Hollow. Was it real? Or just a dream? That is for you to decide.” Guests depart the Hay Wagon and are brought into a shop selling Muppet merchandise (with unique items based on the ride).
The Pumpkin Patch Playground
View attachment 716586
This phenomenal pumpkin patch provides a place for kids to run around and blow off a little steam. All over the place are (of course) pumpkins of all shapes and sizes. Some you can crawl inside. Others you can play like drums to make music. The vines of the pumpkins twist and contort around the patch, forming net-climbing courses that kids can climb up to reach the top of slides that lead into piles of "hay".
Keeping watch over the pumpkin patch is a scarecrow... don't bother trying to start up a conversation with him, he doesn't talk much. But he's dedicated to his job of keeping crows out of the pumpkin patch - though considering that there's an animatronic crow perched on both of his arms, he might not be the scariest scarecrow around. Parents can sit down on rustic wooden benches as their kids run amok!
Danse Macabre Library
A Tribute to Museum of the Weird
View attachment 716584
In the town of autumn landing, a black dog has been sighted. Locals avoid it due to thinking it is a bad omen. It is actually an immortal anthropologist who has lived in town since the Colonial era named Lord Asher! He lives in an old library, called Danse Macabre Library, at the edge of town and loves to receive guests, who he shows ancient American and old European things.
Guests can enter his library and see the following beyond the shelves: a Wendigo with antlers, a flying head of Iroquois myth, the horned underwater panther, the Iroquois wind god Ga Oh along with the moose of the east winds and panther of the west winds, the adorable yet prickly cactus cat, the Thunderbird, Turtle Island, the Iroquois worldview, The Great Peacemaker, founder of the Iroquois Confederation, the Sanderson Sisters, and The Headless Horseman.
Within the stony chambers guests come upon six doors, each leading to somewhere mysterious and unique:
Door 1 goes into a dungeon where two dragons, of the Mirage and Blue Blood species, live along with a flying dragon, all of which are sophisticated figures.
Door 2 leads to an 1800s study with a piano guests can play, a golden age star’s dressing room with strange drawings strewn about, and a 1790s office.
Door 3 takes guests to Egypt's pyramids, Stonehenge, and a Gothic Cathedral with gargoyles by way of replicas,
Door 4 goes to a magical art gallery of transforming portraits based on Kahlo, Starry Night, and Mona Lisa,
Door 5 leads to a library, a long dark hallway full of disembodied voices whispering riddles and ”No Escape!”, and a potions chamber where guests can brew potions!
Door 6 leads to a mirror maze.
Hocus Pocus Spellbinding Adventure
View attachment 716675
The Premise:
The Sanderson Sisters have returned to Salem and are running “amuck” throughout the town. You and your friends find yourselves on a mission to stop the Sanderson sisters from brewing up a wicked brew to become young and beautiful.
Queue:
The ride queue begins in a spooky Massachusetts based forest. The pathway will be decorated with Halloween-themed props such as carved pumpkins, ghostly apparitions, and eerie sound effects to set the mood. The queue area will be dimly lit to create a spooky atmosphere.
As you come upon the Sanderson Sister’s house – now built for tours, you come across eerie lighting and a ghoulish soundtrack that sets the perfect spooky tone for the ride ahead. Once inside, you’ll be taken to a room where you will be able to see the prize jewels of the tour – the sisters’ spell book, black flame candle, and the cauldron.
As the tour attendant explains the significance of the book, the eye within the book starts to move. Though special effects, the museum glass covering the book is shattered, causing a panic in the museum attendant who flees the scene. The eye moves towards the position of the black flame candle, creating a special effects spark igniting the candle and bringing the Sanderson Sisters back, and watching as they escape.
Max returns late to save the day, but to catch the witches in time, He enlists your help while using the book to enchant the vacuums in the supply closet to catch the witches.
Ride:
As riders board the coaster, they will be seated in customized Vacuum-shaped ride vehicles, similar to Tron light cycle run. The ride will initially be slow-paced, taking riders through a dark and twisted forest filled with fog and ghostly apparitions. Riders will hear the cackle of the Sanderson Sisters in the distance, getting closer and closer.
As the coaster picks up speed, riders will experience sharp turns as they try to outrun the witches. The Sanderson Sisters will make various attempts to catch the riders throughout the ride, whether it be by flying on broomsticks or casting spells, which all result in fun, contemporary pop culture gags.
As you go end up in Salem’s karaoke bar, you’ll see an encounter with animatronics of the sisters themselves, as Winifred tries to deliver her infamous “I Put a Spell on You” rendition, which "casts a spell" on your vehicles and ends in a sudden drop
This then leads to a launch for the roller coaster element of the attraction (similar to TRON and Hagrids).
The ride will culminate in a grand finale featuring an animatronic of the Sanderson Sisters as they cast their final spell. Where at the Sanderson sisters’ cauldron, where you’ll watch as they mix together their potion, causing it to bubble and fizz before finally exploding in a spectacular display of special effects such as strobe lights, smoke, and lasers!
However, thanks to your bravery and quick thinking, the spell is reversed, and the witches are banished back to the netherworld once again.
Exit:
The exit area will be designed to look like a quaint New England town, with shops and houses decorated for Halloween. Riders will exit through the thematic village, providing a feel-good ending to their spine-tingling adventure.
Overall, the Hocus Pocus Spellbinding Adventure is a thrilling rollercoaster that combines horror and action. It's a ride that will leave you on the edge of your seat until the end, and you'll have a memorable experience that you'll never forget!
