What I think...as of today...for now...

I also don't understand how you're seeing the project is stalled.Did you not see the crane by the Be Our Guest restaurant site? Or the bulldozers? Construction certainly seems to be happening more quickly than it has at DCA.

I don't know why he keeps thinking they've stopped construction. He said the same thing when they weren't working on Labor Day.

There's no such thing as a construction site that's balls-to-the-wall every single day. And from the photos I've seen, the site looks different every day (except for what I can't see beyond that annoying mountain of earth).

Fixed. See: Disneyland. Though if they were that hectic you would probably hear it over the wall/ridiculous mound of dirt.

Well said. It is obvious that BatB and LM are going ahead at a modest pace and other areas within the fence seemed to be progressing but they have not changed for three weeks or so. So, the rumors of the area being completely reworked (mine train) seem right. Of course if the mine train does not get the greenlight it could be a very long time before we see anything in those areas.

This project is not proceeding anywhere near the pace DCA is happening. I've watched those pojects closely. So, it only seems reasonable to wonder what is going on. I have even wondered if cost overruns at DCA may be impacting the pace of work at WDW. Possibly cost shifting into the next fiscal year? :veryconfu

I have never seen things as quiet as they are now.

In a nutshell, it means that a smallish WDI team will come up with ride and show concepts, then contract out their design and construction to other firms.

(That's how Uni creative does it.)

Sorry to say, but that is completely wrong. Shanghai is a BIG team and is not being outsourced as far as I know.

You seem to know nothing about construction, but you comment like you are an expert. That's just annoying.

If you have been observing things closely at DCA, you would notice that the ground and foundation work for LM took a long time, but once they were done, the building went vertical and took form really quick. Also look at cars land: they had the ground work prepped for a long time, but things like Luigis Tires only began a few months ago. Mater's hasn't even started (there are still buildings in the way).

Once things go vertical with FLE, you will notice more of the changes. But until then, just chill out and stop worrying that they are canceling/delaying things just because you don't see immediate action. :hammer:

Exactly. They have a massive cleared out spot they have to fill with something. So chill. :)

I have some construction background, although I'm not in that field anymore. I will say that the large jobs that I've worked on (schools/malls/etc.) seemed like they would never "get off the ground".....site work took forever. However, once vertical walls start going up, it seems to fly....then stop again because most of the work is happening inside. With a project like FLE where there is a lot of detail stuff (it's not a school/mall/house with vertical walls), there must be a ton of site work for the thematic elements like the water around LM and the rock work around B&B area; all of that stuff has to be on firm foundations after all. I haven't seen anything that represents a slow down of any kind; the project is supposed to take more than 600 days and we're barely 90 days in since they got the area closed off, all of the trees cut out and the foundational dirt moved in. Patience is very much in order, folks.

I was clear that LM is moving forward but you must have missed that. And I believe you can see vertical elements in the aerial pic from 3 weeks ago. So far, however, we have seen nothing happening "really quick".

DCA has happened in stages because so much of the construction is within the park as opposed to the more isolated FLE and yet it shows progress from one day to the next. The FLE does not.

I have no doubt that LM and BatB will happen, it is the rest of the project, which is projected for 2012, that seems to be slipping.

Sorry if the truth annoys you. Not my problem.

Umm. I thought everything except Pixie Hollow was opening IN 2012. Not before. With star tours for 2011.

yep...2012 was always the plan.

That is what they are saying. But if DCA is any indication it is going to be tough to meet that deadline. That project has been going on for three or four years now. Granted it is bigger and more complicated but the FLE has its fair share of logistical problems.

And everyone is assuming the kids coaster is greenlighted already but I have seen nothing in the rumor mill that indicates it has. So 2012 seems a bit optimistic with all the changes occuring to the plan.

I thought we were always supposed to take finish dates with a grain of salt...?

I read it as you were saying the phase for 2012 wasn't happening. Aka Pixie Hallow. Sorry. I am assuming 2012 is going to be the only phase. :lookaroun

I have been in the construction business for more than 15 years now and I can confirm what many are saying. It takes quite some time for construction to go vertical. A large and complicated structure only exacerbates this. Once the walls go up thing will appear to go very fast and then stop again once interior work starts.

I'm not questioning LM and BatB opening on time. Not at all. It is everything else that appears to be in question. Especially since they still seem to be tweaking stuff.

Time will tell.

Umm... no.

Carsland was still a parking lot as of July last year

LM only began construction in June 09.
WoC began in '08 but is complete.
Silly Swings began in mid 09 but is complete.

So check your math cause that's not 3-4 years. Oh and the Grand Californian DVC isn't part of the DCA expansion.

I was going to say pretty much exactly this but you beat me to it. These projects always seem like they're going nowhere fast, and then that steel shows up and woosh... Just like TLM at DCA. They shuffled dirt around there for what seemed like forever.

Not to mention the fact that the site prep is much more involved in Florida, due to soil and irrigation conditions. At DCA they could just dig straight down and go, but in the MK they had stabilize the site and do all the other shenanigans.

I just watched the video of Jack Blitch from C-Span. He showed the "4th dimension" (time) and what B&B area would look like. It is a 660 day project. I don't think we're even 30 days into it (that pesky 5 day work week). Good news is that the model is showing a building with roof at about 80-90 days! This thing is a marathon, not a sprint.
