What I think...as of today...for now...

Fear! Uncertainty! Doubt!

You've become a caricature of yourself.

:rolleyes::lol:

I think for many of us 'boredom' would be a better definition. :snore:

So....

Since a large portion WDI's assets are now going to be dedicated to developing concepts for Shanghai, is WDW's window of opportunity closing?

It almost appears as though TDO is going to get its wish and a scaled back FLE and ST2 are all we have to look forward to. From construction pics over the wall it would appear much of the project has stalled.

Would corparate pull up stakes and inform TDO they are on their own?:lookaroun

Well, if that equates to simply being patient..... :)

My sense is that a window of opportunity may close here and instead of getting the best Glendale can produce we will get a steady stream of Stitch stages, shows, parades, shops and m&g's.

It has been reported that Shanghai is going to be built using a method more like the one employed by Universal Creative.

No. What is happening in Shanghai will have no effect on anything at WDW.

That does seem to be the case.

In a nutshell, it means that a smallish WDI team will come up with ride and show concepts, then contract out their design and construction to other firms.
(That's how Uni creative does it.)

This seems to be the way it's going. Especially since they're building the park in Shanghai... best to get local contractors who are used to that environment.

A lot of former Imagineering talent is being brought back on a contract basis to work on Shanghai. There's plenty of people to draw from - it's not a zero sum game.

TOO next-gen? That's just what they need right now. :(

Agreed. The gist I got was that unproved tech == uncertain cost, and it spooked the suits. The whole area would have been an indoor, highly interactive environment with lots of effects and it was just too much for the sharp pencil boys to wrap their heads around. I'm not sure when it was proposed - there were lots of ideas thrown around, I think.

Could you share what you heard about the ride? Through here or even PM by chance?
Basically I just heard that there was going to be one. I don't think it got very far into design. My guess is that it was a spiritual successor to the Mickey Fun House/Movieland rides designed for Disneyland & MGM back in the day.

Very interesting. Hope they pull it back out for an idea at some point. Thanks for the info.

Everytime I read something like this it gives the impression that 'the suits' are scared of everything that appears 'risky.' But I assure you, they're probably crunching the numbers and looking at actual risk and potential payoff. Of course, I could just be assuming what you're implying. And we all know what does.

So maybe in all reality, they're focusing on what would happen if it went all awry and what they would lose instead of looking at what would happen if everything went hunkydory and what they would gain.

its the same parents that are afraid to hold their kids and have that odd looking kangaroo pouch holder thingy strapped to their chest.

And also the same parents that drag their little ones out till 2am during extra magic hours at magic kingdom just because "its open" and "they paid for it".

And that's all I will say on that.

Really? I am a mother to a 16 lbs 9 month old and if I were to carry him for more then a hour in one of those wraps my back would ach so bad I couldn't stand.

I think the reason this sounds the way it does is because it is an accurate reflection of how things are operating right now. What would you pick: lots of risk, mild risk, little risk, almost no risk? Management has been making the safe choice of "almost no risk." While this is traditionally a wise move, it eventually becomes a burden to a company that sells its creativity, its risk taking.

How do you know most of WDI is being dedicated to Shanghai DL? You know someone in Imagineering?

I'd hardly call FLE scaled back. From what Lee's said, the details will be better than before, and instead of an operationally-deficient meet and greet complex, we're reportedly getting a whole new ride.(And we've been told the budget is being slightly increased, and the funds from not doing Cindy/Aurora and PH are enough for a new ride. I don't know about you, but I wasn't too psyched about coloring with Aurora.

I also don't understand how you're seeing the project is stalled.Did you not see the crane by the Be Our Guest restaurant site? Or the bulldozers? Construction certainly seems to be happening more quickly than it has at DCA.

They are actually working hard on many projects including Aulani (Hawaiian DVC), the Disney Dream (new cruise ship), FLE, Disney's Art of Animation Resort, Star Tours redo, NextGen queues, many other un-announced projects at all Disney parks around the globe as well as projects for other companies (hospital wings, universities, office buildings, etc.).
