What good things are happening at Walt Disney World?

There’s certainly a lot to be concerned about (rising prices, deferred maintenance, etc.), but what are the good things that are happening at Walt Disney World? What is there to be excited about right now?

This might be a good poll question (for those that still visit, what are your top reasons.)

For our family, it’s still really hard to beat Disney when traveling with a small child and elderly relatives. Granted, my little guy has sensory issues so the parks can be overwhelming, but they’re still the best option in terms of the adults actually getting something of a vacation. We are not going to be strolling through Europe or something like that with him, he would lose his dang mind. The only places that are really options are places that were built with tons of entertainment specifically for small children, and of those, Disney is great about having fun things for adults too. For grandparents, the accessibility is great.

As far as the new stuff, it’s not super high on the list of things I’m excited about because we go more for the “classic Disney” attractions. It might give us room to grow as our son gets older and preferences change though.

The nighttime entertainment lineup is great. Happily Ever After playing nightly, the newer holiday firework shows for MK are great, Luminous at Epcot is wonderful, Fantasmic looks better than it ever has in its entire existence at WDW. Just need a real fireworks show back at DHS and a nighttime show back at DAK and we're good.

Iger is going to be out in another year or so.

They also haven't been able to ruin the legacy completely, because it would cost too much.

Sadly, I actually can't think of much new that is up to the old Disney standard. The old stuff (10+ years ago) is still what makes Disney. That's not all bad though because we still have that.

I went on my first WDW trip in a decade this year and despite all of the doom prognosticating on these forums I had a great time.

I went to Universal immediately before WDW and the difference was just unbelievable. WDW was such a better experience across every level. From the second I got on property and had my first interaction with a CM, things were immediately a step up. Maintenance and show quality was also better than I was led to expect based on these forums.

Lots and lots of decisions being made in the company that I disagree with, sometimes vehemently so, but WDW is still unmatched as a theme park vacation destination. Disney just provides such a better product than all of their competitors that they continue to exist in a different class entirely.

at Walt Disney World specifically - I still very much enjoy resort hopping using all the different methods of transportation.

While some mistakes have been made - when test track reopens I feel like Epcot will be a very strong park. I’m hoping they do a really good job with that one.

I love Epcot and Animal Kingdom for Christmas. Merry Menagerie and Storytellers are the best things Disney offers for the holidays.

I hope they continue to focus all their energy on trying to work out the mess in Studios so they don't think about screwing with the good stuff.

I say that Tomorrowland is good, it's still the way it was when I left it as a kid for the most part, and has nostalgic music and rides. It still feels like that optimistic future that Epcot was supposed to be (until they started being all NON future about it wrecking the coolness BOO!). If Villains land comes to pass it will at least reintroduce that dark side of disney feel to the parks, but I feel like they are being so lazy on that because they don't know how to do dark Disney.

They are still immersive, Animal Kingdom really has highly detailed areas, especially Pandora and the Harambe village theme. Tower of Terror is a perfect attraction itself. It really does scary well. I adore everything about it. Spaceship Earth and the land Pavilion still feel like home to me after the "Epcot Massacre" of 2020.... lol! There you can see the old epcot in it.

I like that they are doing the new Test track to reflect the old world of Motion, that's a step in the right direction.

Of course I love all the people and atmosphere of the place, It seems to bring out the fun in a lot of people (sometimes not but more times yes).

I do like that they have really cool restaurants, but I'm not a fan of the REALLY difficult reservation system where you basically have to race for your place. (It's too hectic), but the Mission space/Centauri station and Galaxy's edge cantina are great touches.

I do like the little interactive things all around, the ones you activate with the app. That's clever/fun way to explore like a video game character almost.

I love all the cool dress up things they sell like the Avatar tails and the star wars Jedi/Sith robes, and the cool build a droid.
I love that they have the princess makeover thing,

I like that they still have Country Bears even in it's current state Its enjoyable. It's not as good as the old show but I do like It a lot so I'll take it as a win.

I love that adults get to meet with costumed characters too so they can film fun videos and/or goof off with friends. It brings out the kid in me still and I think that's a good thing. People get too serious as adults and need to get silly more often.

I love the camp humor and the narration of things like the Jungle cruise and how the skippers really get into it. Some are a bit lethargic but some are like pretending to duck and adding little extra things in. May that never go away!

I think a lot of the issues are that they want to put new rides in Disney world, but every time they do they take away things people love that have become embedded in fond memories for years. What they should do Is just build another resort not too far but far enough to entice people, and make it a totally different non castle park. They should have yes the castle parks in florida and california (and over seas) and then just six flags the "second gates" all over the country to provide unique things that don't copy the other resorts so people have to go to each park and be like Hey This ride is in Jersey or this ride is in Missouri. (idk if that's feasible, or why I just blurted all that out but, like I said, I'm silly!)

It's worse more so at MK than the other parks, and compared to say, 5-10 years ago, is better now.

Disney has kept up with exterior building refurbs. It's the attractions themselves that have been wildly hit or miss.

I complain a lot about my beloved WDW but I still love MY PARK.

The other day, I rode SSE for the first time since 2019.

The wonderful, glorious smell of SSE filled me with happiness. 😍
We’re going back to WDW for our first trip in a little over 2 years and I’m most excited for things like SSE, the Safari, Happily Ever After, POFQ, the Sassagoula boats to Disney Springs, etc.

The only new things that make the list are Tron (because we’ve never done it), Luminous (because we’ve never seen it), and Cosmic rewind (because we found it incredibly fun our last trip).

I’ve accepted we probably won’t do most rides because it’ll just be too difficult for us without DAS.

We complain a lot too but there’s still no feeling like going under the entrance gates and pulling into POFQ, as someone said above it feels like home away from home, the rides have become secondary (to the point we aren’t even bothering to visit HS), we just enjoy being in the bubble and being at WDW.

I won’t be surprised if future trips are AK and EP trips only since they are so much more than just rides.
