What do you think we can attribute to the negative happenings recently at the World?

Uh, oh. I hope Mr. Kline doesn't see this post.

Not sure who Mr. Kline is, but I once again generalize where I should be specific. I'm sure there are plenty of fine WalMart employees. However, my local one is staffed with slovenly folks who clump together looking at their cellphones in the middle of the aisle, blocking the customers way, while simultaneously ignoring them when they require help. And this seems to be something that is happening in many stores around me, not just WalMart. So I should not specify WalMart. I should have specified a TYPE of employee that should not exist.

Yeah, I know. Dream on...

I heard about the monorail but the Pirate Tutorial and the jack knife? That's new to me  What were those about?

Dragon, i know the there are threads about both, i'm just too busy right now to post them up for you, however...

The other day during the Pirate Tutorial, the character "Mack" appeared to slip on what i'm reading was a "wet spot" and crashed head first into a wall and the ground. Broke some bones and had a massive head wound, unfortunately dies later in the day.

I guess it was a few weeks back (if anyone has more specifics for Dragon, let us know) but one of the floats in the MK parade jack-knifed during the route, i don't think there were any injuries

I do believe that many of these accidents were preventable and in the past would not have occurred. There have been many cutbacks. The monorail accident would never have happened few years ago because they had some other procedures in place that would have prevented it. But according to monorail drivers from that era, the procedures were changed to speed things up. We now have cast members who don't pay as close attention to what is needed. It only takes a few bad apples to cause multiple disasters. We live in a society where people barely do what they are expected to do. There is an lousy attitude, of "they don't pay me enough" or "that's not in my contract". WDW used to be different. I loved coming to WDW because the cast members went so far above and beyond my expectations. The last few years I see far fewer of those cast members, and far more of the same types of workers you might find at the local WalMart. It's sad, because there are still MANY, MANY fantastic cast members. But as I said, it only takes one mistake by someone not properly trained, or who isn't taking it seriously enough to cause a disaster.
Whether they are due to cutbacks I do not know. I wonder if there have been more accidents or do we hear about them more with the rise of the internet and 24 hour news cycle? There is a chapter in the book "Realityland" devoted to accidents and deaths. I have to say that I was surprised at how many there had been over the years.

There have been an unusual number of negative occurences at the World the past few months. Why do you think this is? The unfortunate Monorail accident, the Pirate tutorial accident, the parade float jack-knife, the bus accidents etc. Do you think as a result of the economy and the CM cutbacks, are remaining CM's overextending themselves? Do you think it's just a series of unfortunate accidents and just coincidence they happened so close to each other?

Yes, coincidence. Purely coincidence.

Or government intervention.

One of the two.

I think cast moral is down.
That would be fairly true of any place right now. I think nearly every industry has been cut to the bone and so many of us are just hanging on. Great morale is kind of hard to come by when the short term best case scenario is no more cut backs.

Final Destination 5 - Disney

Their accident ratio is actually exceptionally low. And stuff always happened. The worst I can think of was the girl being crushed by the America Sings theater, which I believe became Carousel of Progress.
