What do you do against WDW-homesickness?

I just start planning for the next trip and I love keeping up with news and forums between trips. Maybe you saw there is some big announcement today at 12:45 pm ET - should be interesting. Also since you are in Europe have you had a chance to visit the Paris park?

I have been there in 1997, it was nice but I never really felt the typical "I am really there"-feeling I have in WDW everytime. No nostalgia, no sad feelings when I had to leave but a lot of disappointment. DLP is beautifully designed with top-notch-imagineering, some rides are even better than the US-versions, for example Space Mountain, but I still think it was a mistake of building it in France for several reasons, one being the weather. Spain would have been much more appropriate. I haven't seen the studios park yet as they opened later but I have read a lot of quite bad comments about them. Perhaps we will go however, if we cannot afford WDW in the next year because some hard times are coming.
But in general DLP will never be a substitute for the real World.

Hello Spike,
You live in such a beautiful country, and you are surrounded by other beautiful nations. It's strange, in a way, to hear you say that you need diversions to keep your mind off of WDW. I would love to visit your area of Europe again.
Regardless, I would imagine that doing "tourist" type of things would certainly help you to take your focus away from Disney. Travel throughout Germany and the surrounding nations, and enjoy all of the interesting things that they have to offer.

That's funny because that's exactly the way I would answer an American who is suffering from WDW-homesickness! :)

With so many fascinating destinations I would have plenty of diversions as someone who lives in the US. Of course I know what you mean and think. But I already have seen quite a lot of my homecountry and Europe. I have been to the UK, Netherlands, Austria, France, Spain etc., have been especially in the UK a lot, with at least 10 stays in London, weeks in Paris (with a short visit in DLP) etc. But for one I am not the typical German tourist, most Germans love the Mediterranean Sea and the countries and beaches there, while I don't like it at all. Ever seen the beaches of popular tourist destinations in Italy or Spain? People often lie packed side by side. Absolutely terrible.
And for another WDW is different (who am I telling this..). It's an absolute unique feeling when I am there that I feel and felt nowhere else. Perhaps in DLR it's the same, I don't know have never been there so far.
Btw. why should any American be WDW-homesick? You have the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Yosemite, Rocky Mountains, NYC, Chicago, New England, the grand ol' south and all just a drive with the car away :D

I think I'd begin planning the next trip to the World, no matter when it might be. It seems like I am always in the planning mode. Our next trip is for January 2011, and I am already planning a possble October 2011 and February 2012 trips.

Ah yes the Disney homesickness. I too get this, its hard. Lets see what are some of the things that we do:

Start thinking/planning our next trip down even if it isn't for awhile, we still like to talk about it.
Come on addicting sites like this, where we can easily be with people that get it.
We do try to go elsewhere, small weekend getaways or what not to take our minds off of it. It may not be Disney but it helps a lot.
And of course knowing that I am not alone in my love, or my feelings helps more than you know.

* 'Blue Sky' plan your next trip

* Hang out on the forums

* Scrapbook or organise your trip mementos

* Play some mp3's of park music

* Look up recipes for your favorite WDW meals

* Visit Sporcle and play (or create) Disney quizzes

These all helped get me through the 7(!) year drought between my last trip and the next (June - woohoo!).

I'm with you. We've been back since Oct 17, and I'm just getting to the point that I'm not depressed. What did I do this year? We bought DVC, and booked a vacation in Hilton Head for June. I started buying things for our trip next year. I'm on here a lot every day. I have lunch with my friends who love Disney too. I also start trying to figure out goals for next year. Like how much weight I need to lose, how many papers I need to write, how can I pass my comprehensive exams...can I get my dissertation proposal approved? It's like I have to figure out all the things I will be celebrating, then achieve them! I also have been planning our dining schedule for next year.

Things I've done to help with WDW homesickness:
1. look at my pics and videos
2. listen to my WDW CD's (Spectromagic, Wishes, etc)
3. talk Disney with other Disney-loving friends
4. use our Disney placemats at dinner
5. have Disney memorabilia around the house
6. visit Disney forums
7. become a Disney travel agent, making other people's wishes come true (almost as good as going myself) :animwink:

What do you do when you are back home and you miss the World?

Spike,

A few things that I have done since my last trip, 11 years ago, is I made my bedroom into a Mickey 'Shrine'. I have my pictures of Mickey, Walt, Disney Dollars, and my Cast member papers(Eyes and Ears) framed and hangingon the wall as a headboard to my bed. Which is done up in the traditional red, black and white colors! I found VINTAGE Mickey curtains at the thrift store that I use for curtains and my air conditioner is even covered with Mickey cartoon strip fleece to keep out the cold during the winter months!
I have even gone as far as make a website for our next trip in December 2012. Whenever I get the Disney Blues, I just get on my website and tinker and tweet it just to pass the blues away! I even go online and research the prices of a trip just to be doing something Disney and chanage the site according to the cheaper prices! And it usually does the trick for a while!:ROFLOL:
