What did you do?

On the morning of my birthday Tuesday -- turned the big 4-4, though a lot of friends and coworkers say I look in my mid-30s -- decided to put in 4.4 miles. Only got to just about 4 miles in the hazy heat and 100-percent humidity in Downtown Memphis. Wanted to run at 9:30am when it was a "bearable" 79-80 but did not start my run until after 10:15am. Paid for it as it was over 85 and by the time I finished around 11:15am it was 88 going on 89. At least there was a strong southerly wind, but it was a hot wind.

*Note to self, start doing your half marathon training in the evening or after 11pm - midnight like you used to do to run in the coolest part of the day (upper 70s, low 80s).

Happy Birthday @a2grafix !

4 miles this morning at 9:02 pace, it was 71 degrees with 90% humidity and foggy. I'm a little worried about the conditions for the Peachtree on Friday morning. I live (and run) in the northern suburbs of Atlanta where it is always a couple degrees cooler than in the city. I know it's going to be later and hotter than my normal runs and I'm not looking forward to that aspect of it. I'm usually good about drinking 3-4 liters of water a day, but I'm really going to push the water for the next couple days.

I purposefully ran at 6pm last night (3 miles) to keep my heat/humidity streak going :p The temp when I was finished was still low 90s. Humidity was lower though. Peachtree weather is always an adventure.

Checked my Higdon plan and it actually starts in September. I 'interpolated' back to late August to include W&D. Doing 3-3-3-10 until then.

So had a nice 3 yesterday then almost suffocated this morning. I usually do OK in humidity but it was extra hazy this morning. And why did I have to dodge 6 cars yesterday and zero today? Strange.

Well, I have been able to train in Florida type conditions this week. Monday afternoon, temperatures were around 90 with high humidity. You get about a mile out and already the sweat is flowing down your face and back.

3.42 miles @8:37/mi average. Hot and humid even at 6am but very thankful I sucked it up and got out of bed early so I wouldn't have to attempt this run at 4pm when it will be over 90 :hungover:

I did the same Lindsay. Ran 7 miles at 6am which was hot and humid enough already. I am getting all my runs done in this heat, but I'm not pushing the pace at all. Not training for anything specific right now, so just happy to get my runs in during a more tolerable time of day.

Happy birthday @a2grafix!

Haven't posted in a while, but still running. Hitting between 13 and 18 miles a week right now with times averaging around 11:30/mile. I have my third 5K lined up for Friday. It'll be the hardest course I've done so far, so beating my time from the last one is probably a bit too much to ask, but hopefully, I can give it a go. More importantly, just registered for my first 10K in 2 weeks. I have run 5 miles several times and do 4 miles pretty regularly, but this will be my first time going 6+ miles. It runs through our local 6 Flags, so not exactly a Disney run, but maybe it will give me a taste of what running through a park is like. Shooting for the 2015 Wine and Dine as my first half!

Forgive me fellow Disney runners for it has been 3.5 months since I last ran a half marathon. No, wait, is running 10 nautical miles (11.5) qualify as almost a half? Anyway my training is underway for the Rock n Roll Cleveland Half in Ohio in October. Anyone running this half marathon with me Oct. 11?

Took 3 weeks off and now starting training for the October half. Ran 4.15 miles Sunday in steamy Downtown Memphis, and going out for a punishing run Monday mid-morning on the last day of June. It's not quite 11am and It's already 82 but with the humidity it already feels like 89. Guess I will have to tailor my runs to either evening, predawn or midnight when it will "feel' the coolest in the upper 70s.

Welcome Back Tim!

1/4 warmup, 1/2@5:52, 1/4 RI, 1/2@5:52, 1/4 RI, 1/4@5:52, 1/4 cool down. Registered for a 10k tmrw morning, but now wondering if that was a smart idea, or if the race will even be held due to the storms coming associated with Arthur. Time will tell.

5 miles this am. First 3 by myself and my fastest probably ever! A super gnarly lightening storm rolled up on me and of course I was running out between open fields. I made it home safely without getting struck and waited for the storm to pass.

I went back out with my 11 year old and we conquered a major milestone for her; she did 2 miles straight with no walk breaks!! I had been doing run 4min walk 1 min with her. But she told me she wanted to do the whole thing without walks. She did awesome 11:12/ mile.

She said to me, "I kind of hate running, until I am actually doing it...Then I want to keep going." I told her that's a normal response.

Running through 6 Flags sounds fun.

Wonder when Universal will have their first race? Harry Potter Challenge after California opens? :D

Planned 5 miles at marathon goal pace.

Actual 5 miles at 8:33/mile which is about 10 seconds faster per mile than MGP. I've got 17 weeks to figure out what 8:45/mile feels like and to get comfortable running that pace without even having to look at my watch.

Happy Independence Day and good luck to all those racing today!

What a different 20 degrees can make! Went from 92 degrees yesterday to 75 degrees today. Got in 5 miles this morning. Ran the first 3.5 miles at a 10:08 pace and than walk/ran the rest. Need to start increasing miles but want to ease into so I don't suffer with the knees/hip pain that I get. Today worked out well. Knee pain started at 4.8 miles. Hope everyone has a great 4th!

Well, I was real happy with my 10:30 10-miler this morning until I read your post. ;) I would love to run an 11:00 marathon. I think that will be my goal. Beat 5 hours.

On my dinner break Thursday evening ran the Stars and Stripes 5K in Memphis at the Liberty Bowl. Ran with nearly 2,000 other runners and walkers. Blessed with perfect conditions - upper 70s, low humidity, a rarity around July in the South. Didn't realize it but thought I finished 32-something, but was running nicely, tho I stopped a few times for water breaks. Was near the front of the group this time and finished 30:18, with a pace of 9:46 per mile. Shocked myself, but I guess running 4-plus miles in near 90-heat and 100-percent humidity helped me.

Shocked as well as this is the last year for me competing in the 40-44 age group. Representing Team RWB all the way, like I do.
