Love this picture of you Nick. Totally captures the essence of this crazy New Jersey winter. Cold and snowy but as always your tenacity blows me away!
And yes dinner soon

For you its you second 500 attempt. For me, it is a 50miler that I have been mentally and physically training for 11 months.

50 miler in 24 days. Last week of heavy training. Going to reach around 67 miles total this week.... and I use to be tired after a 40 mile week. 40 mile week is a fallback week now. o_O how things have changed.

I wish I got to sleep in to 0430, my alarm goes off at 3:45  4.1 miles on the treadmill at 8:48 pace. I want to run 24 on Saturday but we're going to be out of town in small town I've never been to and although the hotel has a fitness center, I don't know that I can pull out 24 miles on the treadmill.

Just be careful, it was those 50 and 60 miles weeks that killed my knee, mind you I'm getting old, lol

I hate that where you are going here in Alabama sucks for running. I guess you can just go explore. Too bad you arent closer to Bham

A mixed bag today. The swelling in the knee is gone and I can weight bear as tolerated( no more crutches). I have a strained hamstring that will need some physio. That is the good news. My doctor has warned me that once I am healed I can get back into running but if the swelling returns, I need to look at a new form of exercise. He feels that if it recurs, there is more going on and it just won't be the best for me to continue. I am so depressed right now it is scary.

8 miles this morning over 70min. Tomorrow is a day of rest and then a huge weekend. Going to make my Saturday 26 at my 50 mile pace, then Sunday night do some more climbing but in my remote neighborhoods. That will allow me to do some speed work up the hills.

When I had to take 3 months off 2 years ago, I recall the scary feeling of thinking I wasnt going to run again.... because of what a "doctor" said. So dont listen to them. If it swells, try new things (shoes, gate, pace etc). Dont give up that easy.

I think that injury I gave myself was the best thing that happened. I got stronger, much stronger, and was determined to not let it beat me. I always recall that feeling of being able to run 3 miles again without it blowing up.

20 miles of speed work this morning in 4 degree temps.

Technical trails and hills yesterday.

Running 20-30 milers every/every other day.

Super technical training race coming up in a couple of weeks. Only 40 miles but it beats up the legs and feet pretty good

3.5 miles on TM this morning. Increasing pace for decreasing intervals.

I'm not saying that advice is wrong, but for something that life altering, I would definitely get a second opinion from an orthpedist who is also a runner - if it even comes to that. Hopefully it won't if you get back into running very slowly and carefully.

Thanks and don't worry it will be a long slow build. It probably won't be for a few weeks yet though.

A week of just cranking out a few low mileage days on the TM at the hotel gym. Full day in the office with late night meetings/team dinners at brew pubs coupled with 6 AM meetings the following day means no time to run. Can't wait to get back to a normal schedule and run more.

I've been there, I have attempted in the past to try and get outside anyway with mixed results but the last big "business" trip I still managed to get up early and get some decent runs in, very little sleep though.

Forgive and indulge me but I have to post a small brag. Yesterday my 12 year old daughter swam 230 laps at her Swim Team's swimathon. That's about 3.25 miles! Color me impressed!
I said it on FB and Ill say it here. HOLY COW. That is awesome. 230 laps... that is crazy. Your daughter swam 185 more laps than my best day in the pool and i know how hard 35 laps is. WOAH. So impressed. Congrats to her. Now go order the biggest cheeseburger ever.
