What can I do with a 6 month old?

I'm turning to my fellow Disney-lovers for some advice... My wife and I are planing a trip to WDW in the spring of 09. Our new (& first) daughter will be about 6 months old at the time. What can we do with her there that's safe?

Are there any rides I can take her on that I won't be looked at strange for doing? Small world? POTC? Jungle Cruise? HM?

I know I see babies there all the time, I guess I never really noticed them on any rides...

Any ideas??

I took my youngest daughter on her first Disney trip at 10 days old and surprisingly there are quite a few attractions that she could go on. For the most part she was able to go on every attraction that did not have a height restriction which included attraction like SSE, PotC, HM. IASW, KS etc. One thing I would recommend it to get one of those harness that fits on your chest and allows your child to face forward or backward. It will put the little tike up high enough to see and will let you use both of your hands while loading and unloading.

At that age, they sleep a lot, and have no fears, so all of the rides you listed are fine. No coasters, spinning rides, fast rides, etc.

Obviously, no rides with height restrictions, and you might want to avoid anything with loud noises. Please remember to be considerate of others if your baby starts fussing, and leave the attraction if at all possible.

There's actually quite a bit for you to do with a baby along; just take it slowly, and watch out for too much sun, heat, etc.

Happymom is 100% correct. There are plenty of things you can take the baby on. All they do is sit on your lap. I would suggest on certain rides you cover her ears....like the Great Movie Ride or anything else that may have sudden loud noises...other than that you should have a great time...

Lot's of great ideas posted prior to me, so here's some opposites for you (attractions you could see but might want to avoid).

  • Philharmagic (MK) It's a great show, but can be very loud to the little ones.
  • American Adventure (Epcot) Loud at the end, so sit near the exit side and depart early.
  • Lights, Motors, Action (DHS) Very loud as you'd expect.
Some of the harnesses, like the Baby Bjorn we had, provides nice head support when they're facing you. That can absorb/protect from some sound, but little ones are sensitive to volume though they can't express it (other than crying, but they won't always do that).

By the way, when we wanted to sit, see some scenery, and needed motion for our little one to sleep, the Transportation Authority@MK was great and depending on crowds (or lack of) the CM may let you stay on for a few loops. (Thanks CM's.)

I would also not go to It's Tough To Be A Bug. The "bug spray" fogger can be a little too extreme for me, and I work with them and own one!

I took my 10 mo old DD and it was probably my easiest trip with her. She is now 3. She went on everything we could take her on (no test track, roller costers, etc) but she did POTC, IASW, Space Ship Earth, Land, Nemo, Great Movie Ride and things like that. Only thing was she would fall asleep in any of the dark rides - which worked for me. I knew where to had at nap time. Things that were loud she didn't like - Muppets, Philamagic, and the like.

Just remember - this is no longer "your" trip. You need to listen to the baby - when they need to nap - it's time for a nap. You are most likely going to make trips back to the resort to get out of the heat.

Although I would love to do Disney "before kids" again - I would never leave mine home - it's worth seeing her face each time - as she gets older. She is leaving in 52 days for her 5th trip (not including in uetero) and each time has been a different, and exciting experience. Be sure to take pictures and videos. We watch our's day in and day out. It's worth every penny!

ENJOY!

I sent you a private message and email with a slide show of pictures of my son so you can see how much fun a 7 month old can have. I know he's a month older than your daughter will be. We just took our time and went on his schedule.

Have fun!
