What attractions are you NOT allowed to videotape?

At the end of the day, virtually every attraction at WDW, DLC, BGT, USF, IOA is available on the web. Someones done it. Somtimes I wonder how (when you see a CM or staff member right in frame smiling at the camera)

On this note, all I`ll say is if you are taping `covertly` on an attraction where it`s obvious why it`s a no no, please take care and think of others. Forget RnRC and the ToT; even on Space Mountain a lens cap flying off and hitting a fellow guest in the eye will cause serious damage. Imagine if it was the camera. Some rules seem daft. Some are for copyright reasons. Others are very serious safety issues. Even where you can tape, don`t hold the camera in others view, and don`t use the LCD screen; do it the old fashioned way and don`t distract.

What would be good though is if CMs across the board consistently enforced rules for particular attractions. I`ve had no problem on the CoP, others have. Soarin` is on the `no` list, but videos from CM previews hit the web before the ride opened - with CMs knowing it was happening. This way the confusion about what is and isn`t allowed would be solved.

How about a guy like me that has a duo cam that has a camera and camcorder in one. I tape and take photos with it so how are they going to know if im taping or taking photos.

Just this past summer I video taped pretty much everything I could.

As for some of your uncertains:

I was told NO on Star Tours, and Stitch. But I am not sure if that you can't video them or not. Once during Country Bears I was was told no and then later that day I was told it was fine as long as I didn't use external lighting. I think it varies from CM to CM.

Plus, I believe that anything with a movie can not be video taped due to copyright laws.

Hope that helps, and if you're unsure if you are allowed to video tape or not, just ask the nearest CM and see what they say, since more than likely it will be them telling you to put the camera away if you're not allowed.

I videotaped Tower when it first opened with an older videocam at the time (no flipscreens back then) and nothing was said to me, I even taped the preshow. Aside from beating myself in the face with the cam because of the drop It came out good. :p

With the exception of the movies which are copyrighted films, almost all rides that you are not allowed to videotape are for your safety, the safety of others, and to prevent your camera from damage. Think on Soarin, it is a film and if you dropped your camera unless if you are on the bottom row then it could hit the people under you on the head. On Mission Space your camera could get damaged if parts are moving while the ride is spinning violently. And on Rockin' Roller Coaster your camera could be droppend on an inverson or one of the other fast, shaky parts.

Your not suppose to TAPE on STITCH its in the Pre Show video if I remember right but I was a rebel and DID it anyways the CM saw me and she just looked the other way as I walked by, Its not a great tape but you can hear most of the ride on it.

I've added a couple of responses to MaxGoof's post, based on my past experiences.

Okay So far,
I have understand that the Attractions that are not allowed to videotape in the Magic Kingdom are:

Mickey's Philharmagic (Becasue that is impossible to tape 3D Movie) - Not true. I've been in it three times, never been told not to tape, and it has turned out very well. Too bad the show itself isn't better.

At Animal Kingdom:

Not allowed to Videotape are: Dinosaur - Not true. I Have taped it almost every time I've been on it. One CM even asked me why I wasn't taping it once.

At Epcot:

Not allowed to Videotape are: Mission: Space - Have taped it all three times I went on it. Not once did a CM say a word about it.
Wonders of Life Attractions - Partly true. Goofy About Health is okay, and normally so is Body Wars. I got a y CM the third time through in December who suddenly decided it was against the law to tape it, but everyone else was all for it. It's definitely a no-no for Making of Me and Cranium Command though, unfortunately.

France has of late decided you can't tape their film, which is odd since they had no problem with it in 1996 and 2000. All of the other films are okay. I've never been told otherwise. Only American Adventure is off limits, sadly.

At Disney MGM Studios:

Not allowed to Videotape are: Muppetvision 3D - Also not true. I've never been told no videotaping in this show, which surprises me, since they're almost fanatical about no taping at California Adventure's version.

Uncertain to Videotape are: Star Tours (can't at Disney-MGM, can at Disneyland. Go figure)

On COP I asked everytime I rode, and they always have told me that you can video tape as long as you don't use any lights.

On POTC I asked and was able to tape, however, they did say no lights or nightvision. I guess I was just lucky.

I vt'd The Great Movie Ride, and the driver was even giving me hints on getting a good shot.

Unless I hear otherwise, I always just ask each time I am on a ride or at an attraction. Even if I video taped it before, I always ask just so I don't get embarresed. I have gotten mixed information before. I have even been told that unless it is stated otherwise, you can video tape. However, I have found that information not to be true. Not all the rides that don't allow vt'g have that noted.

When I worked Space the policy was generally you could tape it, although if they ask you not to it's for your saftey becuase of the spinning more than the attraction itself.

Now if we were to tell you not to tape it, and you did it anyway, well it's your fault if something were to happen to your camera. There's no official rule, the ones where you officially can't tape, they'll tell you either in signage for verbally in a speil at some point. They wont let you start THEN tell you not to, if they do it's the CM.

You can film any attraction you can sneak a camera into. Not much they can do if they catch you. You just say. "I didn't know" (happens 100's of times a day.) they can't take your video.

Hey Everyone,
Thanks for the Disney World Videotaping Tips.
Now that I am prepared for the vacation to go to Orlando on April 1-8 2007.
I'll go to Kennedy Space Center, Shopping Around Orlando, Arabian Nights Dinner Show, Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, The Holy Land Experience, Makahiki Luau Dinner Show at SeaWorld, and Epcot.

Here are some attractions outside Disney World that I can know it.

On Kennedy Space Center: Videotaping is allowed on every attraction. Except for Security Checkpoints and IMAX Films.

The Arabian Nights Dinner Show photography is allowed but Videotaping is forbidden.

The Holy Land Experience: Some shows prohibit videotaping like Moses.

Makahiki Luau Dinner Show at SeaWorld: Flash Photography and Videotaping is allowed but no spotlights like camera lighting.
It was an indoor show at Seafire INN at the waterfront.

Again thanks for the Disney World Videotaping tips and I'll be on my way to Orlando on April 1.

I've done it on HM, LWTL, SSE, BTM, SM, EE, in Norway, Mexico, IASW, I have a night vision light on my camera so it does not cause any problems. Just don't ask because the CM's will more than likely say no.
