West Side Parking Garage construction

Their new garage is prefab which is very different from a poured in place structure.
It is also worth noting that rushing a poured in place parking garage can end pretty badly.

Curious question:
Does anyone know how many parking spots Downtown Disney had before the construction?

I know this garage is said to be 6,000 spaces.

how many space will there be in the marketplace garage?

I'm just curious to find out what the net gain of parking spaces is, as i seems they are getting rid of alot in doing the landing project.

This site says the total will be 6000, not the garage.

EDIT:
"The first phase of the 1.4 million-square-foot parking garage includes 4,000 spaces in five levels and is in the parking lot near DisneyQuest. DPR is in negotiations for subcontractors on the concrete package, and the exterior “skin” package is still available.

Here’s information on how to reach DPR Construction.

The second phase of the Disney Springs garage project will include another 2,600 spaces and is slated to start next year, after the first phase is completed."

So 6,200 total.
Still no answer about the west side lots though.

EDIT2:
Best estimate on previous lot capacity is around 6,000. Since we get at least that amount in garage space, we'll gain the capacity of whatever lots are still around after construction.

well one would assume that taking the 4k number and divide by 5 would give you roughly how many parking spaces were there before demo in that area (really rough, i know ramps and all have to be accommodated, but roughly 800 spaces was inside the footprint of the first garage is probably a good guesstimate

I guess it turns out that garage space efficiency is pretty poor, because I can say with 99% certainty that lots I,J,K had somewhere around 1500 spaces. Keep in mind that the garage footprint is probably closer to 80% of the previous parking area. Interesting how this stuff works out...

ok in front of DQ, there are 238 double and 55 singles, or 531 cars
next section CCW, there are 315 double and 55 single slots or 685 cars,
third section has ~175 double slots, and 75 single slots or 425.

so you are just about right, the column must take up more space then i was willing to give up in calcualtions. but still 4k in the space of ~1500, is not too shabby

Are you calculating for narrower spaces? They tend to do that similar to the way airlines are always looking to get more seats in coach.

Of course cars are trending smaller while people are trending bigger so not sure of all the science involved.

Heck yeah. Definitely worth the investment!

Uni assembled a kit, not built from scratch. i would assume the difference is size, up to a certain size, you can use precast, larger is pour in place. and concrete has a cure time before forms can be removed/moved to a new position.

Yeah, I get that but I'm still ed about the parking situation. Lots of locals are.

Themed is ok but What I would love to see Disney migrate towards is full on Solar Panels over the parking lot like some stadiums do. I'm still a big fan of those.
Given the amount of land Disney has, they would be much better served setting up a large solar farm somewhere out of the way vs taking up parking spaces with it.
