Weird video

Going by your signature, you have never been to Disneyland Paris, where this video was filmed, so I highly doubt that the same Goofy ever hugged one of your kids.

However, if you think that the cast members who play Goofy or any other character at WDW don't do the same kinds of things that you are very naive. They are teens or adults in those costumes, and I doubt that they are angels, otherwise they would be studying for the priesthood instead of playing Goofy!

I am not actually concerned and worried that the same exact goofy from that video hugged one of my kids....I was just making a general comment. And no, I am not naive. I know alot of teenagers and adults do things like this....I dont think every employee at Disney is an "angel". But that does not mean that it is not bothersome to see images like that. Many people find Disney to be very magical, and even adults who know there is a real person inside that Mickey costume have moments that they feel like Mickey is real. Especially when you see your child run up to Mickey and give him a hug for the first time. So since Disney characters are such a HUGE part of mine and my children's lives, it is weird to see a video like that. Just like it would be weird to be in the utilidors and see Mickey walking around with a cm's head. It is all about maintaining the magic. That is what makes Disney so special. And I am always hearing about the strict character integrity rules disney has....i would think this type of behavior would be breaking those rules. By no means do I think this incident was some horrible crime, but I do think they deserved to be fired. And honestly, if these would have been non disney characters, it probably would not have bothered me...in fact I probably would have laughed at it. But Disney characters are sacred to me!
And I am just curious to hear from current and former cast members....are scenes such as the one from this video a common occurance backstage at WDW? I would think not. But I could be wrong.

Attention everyone:

OMG! College students goof around and simulate dirty acts when bored and stressed at work! Oh noes!!!! Teh magic is ruinated!!!!

Please.

Thank you.

Directed at the obviious: way to scrutinize the OP... She was just posting a video she saw and she probably wanted people on here to make her feel better. Needless to say, she didn't get that, instead she got a few people who feel righteous behind their keyboards picking on her... give her a break.

It wasn't a nice video, but it shouldn't have been made such a big deal, and it shouldn't have been posted on youtube either. Whatever...

CoffeeJedi - thanks for making the mood a little less serious.

And thank you.

While the video is uncomfortable to watch, naturally we must remember (SPOILER ALERT) that there are allegedly people in the costumes, and they are (you should pardon the expression) blowing off steam. This does not automatically qualify them as bad people...it just basically qualifies them as people.

To the OP, I can understand your concern, but you must take it in context.

The fact that they do it does not ruin the magic. The thing that ruins the magic is seeing them do it. I could care less what people in Disney costumes do behind closed doors....but how could they not know they were being videotaped? Like i said in my previous post, cm's are supposed to keep the character integrity. Are there ANY cm's out there who could back me up on this??

Folks, cast members do this kind of thing all the time back stage. Whether or not the video should've been put up on YouTube is objectional, I don't see the big deal behind this.

I worked at WDW on the college program in 1998 at the Magic Kingdom, and then as a full time CM from 2000-2003. I can tell you that what you saw in the video was tame compared to some of the things I saw going on backstage. Since this is a family forum I will not go into any details, but if this video disgusted you then you would be horrified at what I used to see.

Nevertheless, I still go to WDW and interact with the characters. I know they are teens/adults who are being underpaid and made to work long hours so I have no problem with them doing whatever they want to backstage, no matter how repulsive, as long as they don't bring it onstage...which I have never seen any of them do.

So, sure, this video was somewhat shocking to people who didn't expect it, but its life. Stuff like this happens everywhere, not just Disney. But, it only bothered you because it was Disney, and you said yourself that you hold them in a higher regard than anyone else. But, perhaps you shouldn't...

Just my 2 cents.

I have been more offended buy some of the youtube videos that people have made on their WDW vacations. Sure they were doing something nasty but it was behind closed doors and not for the public. Most of them are teens or young adults so what do you expect? At least we didn't hear the "F" word being said or nasty talking going on. They were just messing around and I am sure that worse things do happen.

jmaxwell0007, I love your signature about the B'ham airport! funny!

I think a job is a job and we all at times have to fool around to make it enjoyable. Nothing by the costumed characters was offensive to me and none of them should have been fired... BUT... the person that took the video should have been kicked to the curb by way of a size 9 1/2 where the sun dont shine.

One of the problems with internet forums is that people tend to try to read between the lines and/or assume things from posts. I know that goes with the territory....it is not really a big deal. But before someone else tells me somthing along the lines of "thats life...deal with it" etc..I would just like to clear something up. I do not think that these cms were "bad". I did not find the video "shocking". Seeing this video does not in any way make me not want to go to WDW again or interact with characters again. I do not feel that any cm who does something like this should be fired unless they are doing it in public or if they know they are being videotaped. Like I already said in a previous post, I could care less what they do behind closed doors. I just do not want to see it! And when I say I did not like that this happened and that it disturbed me to see it, it does not mean I am furious and upset, etc. It means very simply that i did not like it and found it gross....just as I do not like broccoli and find it gross. It was just weird to see my favorite childhood characters doing that...but by no means am I scarred for life by seeing it. It was just weird. Just like seeing Mickey with his costume head off would be weird.

I think it is time for someone to lock this thread...it is getting nowhere, plus it doesn't involve Walt Disney World...the video is from Disneyland PARIS!!! Thanks!

Just pointing out the obvious...YOU chose to view the video on youtube, and YOU chose to post a link here allowing everyone else to view it. However, YOU did NOT warn anyone about what was on the video...you only said it was "inappropriate" and that you "were disgusted". You later said (above) that you don't care what they do behind closed doors, but only that you didn't want to see it. However, by posting the link and not describing in detail what was on it, YOU practically forced others to view it.

So, in essence, you are no better than the CMs who were involved in the video. They were being videotaped and still did it, and you feel that is wrong. But, you think it is disturbing and shouldn't been seen, yet you posted a link and gave a "teaser" description that anyone with the smallest of curiosity viewed...even if they had never wanted to see such a thing in their life.

Next time you post a link to something that YOU never wanted to see, make sure you tell everyone what they will be seeing so that they could choose to avoid it...just like those CMs should have choosen to not do what they did when they knew they were being taped.

The devil inside me keeps whispering in my ear that you really did want people to view this. Perhaps you were the original poster on youtube and are trying to get your video high on the viewing list...

uhhh, I am not the one who posted the link. Check the posts more carefully before you go off on someone. Apology accepted:wave: .

Funny that you edited your post and want the thread to be locked after realizing you yelled at the wrong poster. But your original post is still quoted in my post.:)
I am done with this thread as well.
