1975-82 or 83'ish

Thanks, Speck. That one totally passed me by!

I can confirm the Edisson Electric Institute sponsored the WEDWay after 1979, did sponsor it in 1981, and had pulled out again by `87.

I still think someone flicked the wrong lightswitch  - strange its only been seen recently. I`ve even pulled all my WEDWay ride thrus and found nothing.

Thank you everybody for the replies and thank you Thimblekisses for the pics. They proved to not be a post-work hallucination. That was totally the first time I had seen the effect. I am trained to work the TTA and have stared at the model for a couple of minutes when walking the track during opening procedures.
Again, thank you everyone.

zone15int - persumably you are a CM (interesting screen name - where exactly is zone15??) - could you do some digging for us and get to the bottom of this??

Man, to be able to stand and look at the model like originally intended... what a buzz!

More than likely those lights for the sign were unplugged or burnt out. Someone most likley plugged them in and/or changed the bulbs on a monthly maintenance visit and was unaware that the sign was off intentionally.

You'd be surprised at the number of things in the park that have been broken/burnt out/abandoned for quite some time now, yet all still intact and only needs a small amount of money to fix.

BTW. The model is quite old and has a number of things that "used" to work on it. The problem is no one care's enough to push getting time to fix it.

Quite possible, but for so long (My videos go back to 1990 and it wasn`t there then) - but having said that, did you hear the one about the Animatronic in The Walt Disney Story? It originally spield about the upcomming Western River Expodition, but was turned off and walled in. When TWDC was ripped out they uncovered the AA, and some of its illumination was still on, having never been turned off....

Sadly, I`m not surprised. Test Tracks barrier test car was a good case, and the semi collision in the tunnel minus its sparks still is. And as for UoE, it has so many effects intact but broken or deactivated in the diorama it`s painful.

Sad but true... I would love for the model to be finally removed, restored to its former glory, and showcased where you can actually stand and look at it (and watch the sunset and lights come on) as originally seen in Disneylands COP upper level. Same with the EPCOT Center model that used to be in Communicore`s Backstage Magic show. How about a new attraction - 'The models of WDW'??!

Or "One Man's Dream." :D

Marni, wanna email me a list of all those missing elements one day through email?

I know it didn't used to be there. We ride the TTA, oh...three or five times each time we're there. Now granted, we haven't been there since NYE, but in the last couple years, we've been to MK a couple dozen times. Heck, I even have photos I've taken of the model and it's not there. It's funny to me that someone would have fixed a bulb or hit a switch after not for a few years.

Interesting... never noticed these words scrolling by before (believe me, I've been on TTA enough times to realize it... :)).

I find it pretty funny and interesting if that is the case. But it's not that uncommon, some of the places I have worked on have had things neglected and forgotten only to be re-energized with minimal maintenance 10-20 years later.

I love little mistakes like this one with the TTA, if it is a mistake at all. Personally they should have a new narration now and incorporate with the new sponsor.

One lttitle hidden treasure I like is that on the CoP the refrigerator in the 1940 scene still has General Electric and the logo written on it.

For the record.. i don't believe the text scrolls. Its just there, and you're passing by.. making you think its scrolling ;)

The June 6 WDW update at www.mouseplanet.com indicates that this is new:

The glass window in front of the original EPCOT model seen from the Tomorrowland Transit Authority now sports blue reflective captioning that states "THE CITY OF TOMORROW IS A GREAT ELECTRIC MACHINE WORKING FOR YOU."

Cheers.

Yes, I am a CM :) . Zone 15 is a Space Mt. reference. It is the last set of brakes on the track until the train gets to unload. Int means intrusion. Combined, it's breakdown lingo for the CM's. I am scheduled at the Buzz Complex next week so I will ask some of the engineering guys about the projections.

Another bit of interesting info: At Space Mt. on the main lift, there are the upsidedown space men. I could make out a set of numbers on their backs. Looked like _ _ 75. First two numbers may have represented the month and date of opening or ground breaking? Not sure.

I know exactly what you're talking about. I was going to post something about it here when I got back from Disney, but it totally slipped my mind. Thanks for posting something about it!

My pleasure! I figured it seemed sooo worthy of posting about. And shockingly I posted about it before MousePlanet did. :p (dont sue me MousePlanet)
