weird phrase projection at TTA

Yesterday I was taking a ride-through on the TTA after my shift at Space Mountain. When my car went past Walt Disney's E.P.C.O.T. model, there was a projection on the showcase saying something like "city of tomorrow works like a machine for you." It was written in blue lettering. I had never seen in until yesterday. Anyone ever seen this before??

I think that what you saw was the way that deaf people are able to enjoy attractions, its on the park map, "Reflective Captioning", I know that Phillarmagic does this as well as Muppet 3D. In the 3D shws, there is a scolling marque on the back wall above the projection room and the script is scolling across while the hard of hearing guest reads it on a mirror pointed at the back of the thearter, so it reflects the banner back to the guest.

OK Im confused. :veryconfu
Is this a projection thing or do you have to have the glasses with the mirrors?

If its a projection thing, does anyone have pics?

It's meant to be there. This is a little blurry, but you get the idea. Any time it's a hearing impaired projection, it doesn't read forwards unless you request the special viewing glass, which stands up kindof like a music stand and would definitely not work on the TTA. It reflects the backward image forwards and sits in front of you so you can read the text forwards. Does that make sense? We'll try to get a picture sometime.
This text is meant to be read forwards as it floats over the model city.

It is not reflective captioning

It says "The City of the Future is a great electric machine working for you"

Most likely, this is a very old effect, from when the WEDway Peoplemover was sponsored by the Edison Electric Institute, which was 20+ years ago.

Thanks for the clarification thimblekisses. I have always assumed that the hearing impaired glasses were like the glasses that I used to see advertised in comic books advertised as "spy" glasses ( with little mirrors on the outside of the lenses.)

That probably wouldnt work too well though, I'm sure disney came up with a better solution than a 99 cent gag item!!

I noticed those screens scrolling the dialogue of Country Bear Jamboree and Philharmagic a few weeks ago when we were there and I couldn't figure out what they were for. My fiancee mentioned something about maybe they were for the deaf but I couldn't figure out how they could see the words. It all makes sense now.... :brick: I guess I'm a little dense.

I know exactly what you're talking about. We noticed that when we went last week. I was going to post something about it here when I got back from Disney, but it totally slipped my mind. Thanks for posting something about it!

Disney has the reflective in stationary rides.. (or theaters..)

They have a different PDA like Technology for other rides.... I remember reading about it... Works on every ride i think now...

what that is mabey an old effect... or they whoever sponsors it now is looking for where they can put their signage...)

This came up a few weeks ago, but never before. It has to be new since blue LED technology is only 1-2 years old.. plus there is no such voiceover if I recall. The other reason it can`t be captioning is why only have it on tbis scene on the TTA - the voiceover runs the entire track, which obviously can`t use ref cap.

The mystery deepens.... unless someone flicked the wrong light switch!

Well, they've had blue LED's on the Illuminations Globe for the past 6 years.

Yeah, the text over the city has been there around 4-6 weeks. It's.... interesting to say the least. No real explaination has been given for it that I've heard. It's not a message from the current sponsor, definitely, since that would be Alamo Car Rental. :animwink:

I don't think it is LED, looks more like backlit glass projecting on the window panes

My thought is that perhaps the old Edison Electric Institute slogan has been either uncovered or re-lit, perhaps to be changed for the new sponsorship....

That would seem like the most logical explaination at this point. I can't think of any other reason to have that seemingly random quote floating over the model on TTA.

Who is the new sponsor by the way?
