Good afternoon everyone, since my engagement in September I have set a goal to loose some weight by my upcoming honeymoon in November 2013. I am 24 years old and at the time of my engagment i was 146lbs. I am down 9 pounds since then, and just been walking and using "my fitness pal" app to count calories. Does anyone else have any goals they are trying to achieve by their upcoming trip? Tips they want to share? Support they want to give?

I don't really have a weight loss goal, but I do have a "health" goal for myself because I've just be diagnosed with MS and I need certain vitamins and nutrients so recently I have purchased a lot of greens and have made myself green juices. It sounds disgusting but if you mix some fruits in there and a little bit of honey it's actually not half bad. It's also a great way to get some energy throughout the day so I suggest trying these fresh green juices in the morning, or even before a workout. You can find a bunch recipes on google to get a feel for it but just experimenting with fruits/vegetables that you know you like is perfect. Good luck!

I'm totally with you on the fruit smoothies, except I have them at night. Ever since I was little I've been used to having a "dessert" before bed, so the smoothie is my new dessert. Much healthier than some of the other crap I was eating. I'm glad you posted this...I've been meaning to add spinach to my smoothies and keep forgetting.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of Vitamix do you have? I'm looking to get one soon. :)

ETA: Here's the smoothie recipe I use...the Alton Brown (of Good Eats/Iron Chef America) buff smoothie. I use this recipe as my starting point and customize from there...for example I use regular 1% milk instead of soy (probably will switch to almond milk soon), pomegranate juice instead of acai (if you watch the video he says to pick a purple juice for maximum nutrients - I try to make sure whatever juice I get is no sugar added), and rather than peaches I use 6oz strawberries and 6oz blueberries. And I want to add spinach to it, which I keep forgetting. But I have added it in the past and it doesn't change the taste at all. Biggest issue is trying to find frozen fruit at somewhat cheap prices...

When I make this smoothie for my husband he has a "yellow" version: milk, mango/orange juice, banana, pineapple, peaches and mango. :)
We got the vitamix that has the extra blender - for dry items - as well as the larger blender container for wet. We do not have the variable speeds - thought it was unnecessary. We have power on and off and high and low and it is more then enough. I have to check at home to find out the exact model type.

We use almond milk + protein - vanilla. We use frozen mixed berries, spinach, flax seed, and the almond mild. We also make the green monster. :) Try carrot and pineapple! :) Its a good combo too!
I cannot do the straight green juices or smoothies. Although I will sometimes do a wheatgrass shot and chase with OJ or such (unfortunately I find the WG repeats on me. Not fun!)

I few months ago, I did Dr Oz's 3 day smoothie detox. It was hard not eating solid food for 3 days, and I also ended up having to modify them somewhat. Particularly the green smoothie. I hate cucumber and can apparently tasted the least little bit. I ended up having to eliminate it and also add berries. But I also dont add any sweeteners, whether sugar, stevia or other.

But I am hooked on smoothies now. Especially since I got a Vitamix for Christmas. I had a pretty nice blender, but nothing makes a smoothie like a Vitamix. Well worth the money!

I especially like the smoothies b/c I can hide greens in it (usually spinach or kale). So many recipes out there. I find it a good way to get a lot of fruits and vegetables that I wouldn't usually eat b/c I either don't like the texture or the taste of them on their own. I am more energized without a load of caffeine.

My favorite mix-ins (other than berries) are whey powder, maca (go easy on this), almond milk, kefir, coconut milk or water, and almond butter. I also like to put in the Navitas powders (goji, pomegranate, acai). I make a lot of use of frozen fruits. They last longer and help "slush-up" the smoothie. I hate bananas, but love to put them in the smoothies. So I either get a frozen fruit pack that they are in (usually a tropical blend), or I peel and freeze them for later use.

Also - if you are training for WDW, you can add some rum or vodka...good training for the WDW drinks!. ;)

I also start my day with a cup of green tea with lemon in it. I already have been a big water drinker (a gallon a day), so that isn't an issue for me. But you especially need water when drinking smoothies!

I have lost 57lbs since the start of this year. Hoping for another 37lbs by our trip on Sept. the hard part will be keeping it off but I body pump, run and spin so hopefully that'll help. Considering a FitBit so I can connect it to my fitness pal too for accurate(ish) calorie intake for maintaining when I get there. It's a long road.

I don't care how you say you feel...this is not a healthy diet and there is no way you are taking in enough calories for an adult body to function correctly in the long run...even if you were morbidly obese this is not healthy...

are you sure you don't have kcals and cals mixed up? I don't know how a human would survive on a handful of berries, a can of tuna, and a turkey hot dog daily...

Anyone tried the Les Mills 'Body Combat' classes? They offer them at my gym and I just started going...I absolutely love them. I mean I hate them for the hour that I'm doing them but after I feel great. It's a mix of martial art style type workout. Afterwards I feel I could really kick someone's @$$!

So it's good Disney training in case someone elbows me in the face at the F&G festival!

time has taken its toll and my body will not give up the fat.

Sadly, I laughed and yet am in total agreement with this statement. Even harder for women. More difficult still for those of us, let's just say "have a better view from the top of the hill". Still, I/we continue to lug our bodies to the gym or work-out room, go for walks, play team sports and watch our calories (D&*$@#! you alcohol!!) all to make it through a Disney vacation. OK, maybe that not all it's for. o_O But, gosh darn it, if I can just lose those last few lbs I am gonna go parasailing!!

My gym doesn't offer RPM so I've never done that. I've done pump before and it's good but I love (well...hate) a good cardio burn from Combat. I just did Body Attack yesterday for the first time. It's very appropriately named as afterwards you feel as if tiny gremlins are attacking all the muscles in your body. It hurts so good! Haha. I've done Sh'Bam before (which really is just a rip off of Zumba) but my gym doesn't offer it anymore. No real loss there but it was a nice "break" class compared to Combat!! Any and all gym classes are better than no gym classes! Thats what I tell myself!

I can't do Combat, my coordination isnt good enough eeek. I might give it another go but we will see if I hurt anyone haha. My gym doesn't offer Sh'Bam. Ill be sure to check out Attack though. RPM is just spin if they offer that?

Attack is HARD! Lol I think it requires more coordination than Combat. Combat is mostly punching and kicking but attack was burpees and lunges and jump jacks and high knees and salute knees(??? did like 4 sets of them - never could get those down) but I think it was just as hard if not harder than Combat.

Yeah my first few combat classes I stood in the back so I didn't kick anyone. OHH yeah we offer spinning but I don't think it's labeled RPM. I do spinning from time to time. I mainly stick to Combat (they offer it 6 days a week) and now Attack or Zumba on the days Combat is during the day. Last time I did body pump - I could barely move for like 2 days! Ha! It's a tough one!
