I was just nosing around the web now that I'm back from vacay (non-WDW) and I found a new Disney cake...

IMG_7795.jpg

It's an 8" vanilla cake with dark choc mousse- GF bakery = $100
I know this is one of their wedding cake designs. I also LOVE how the gumpaste roses have been dusted on the interior petals w/pale blue and tipped with gold. Just soooo pretty.

Also, a mini wedding cake with Sleeping Beauty themed edible standups...

Also GF bakery...$50

And then finally, this is the first time I've seen a fancy cake at Akershus- Epcot bakery $119 (marble w/strawberry mousse and choc buttercream)

Found another cake recently...made by the GF.

cheercakephoto.jpg

This is at least good b/c now we know they have a cheerleader Minnie in their image stock. It was a red velvet cake w/dark chocolate mousse and whipped cream. So, while it looks like a more basic cake, I think the flavors and piping work would say this was a custom job (i.e. they didn't just pop on some decorations). I can't say I've seen whipped cream as an option, so I'm wondering if the person meant buttercream...since that's what it looks like (IMO).

A couple of little things for you today...

1. A while back, I posted a pic of this Sophia the First cake...

It was done by the CR bakery under the CRT princess cake pkg detailed in the first page of this thread. At the time, this was done as an exception, but it is now my understanding that both Sophia and Rapunzel are also being offered as options for the CRT princess cake pkg.

2. Second, in the early posts, I noted how a sketch can be really helpful when putting in a cake order. I don't really think it's necessary for a more simple cake, but you will thank yourself for emailing or faxing a sketch with detailed instructions if you have a more elaborate cake request and you have no inspiration photos that cover enough of what you want.

I wanted to share some of the sketches I've submitted to the WDW bakeries as well as a couple I've whipped up for some upcoming cakes for us.

Now, I know that not everyone is comfortable with making a detailed sketch...and you likely don't need to go quite to these lengths to convey your point. Still, if you are looking for a fairly faithful interpretation of your cake idea, a sketch is your friend.

And if you're not comfortable with making a sketch, but feel like your cake idea really needs one...I MIGHT be able to help if my schedule is not too crazy. I can't guarantee a full color final sketch, but I draw cakes all the time- so I might be able to help.

Saw a new cake to share...

The cake is a 6" chocolate cake w/ chocolate buttercream + raspberry mousse/fresh raspberry filling. Cost = $85 Made by the Contemporary. The clock isn't really Disney related, just signifying the couple's anniversary.

I wanted to post this Rapunzel cake that recently popped up on another site. It's a cute cake...design I've never seen before, but it's significant for another reason...

I know @OswaldTheRabbit was looking for a cake this November at BOG, but as we know, BOG has limited storage and usually can't accommodate big custom cakes. Well, this cake was done by the Contemporary and delivered for dinner at BOG. So, we at least have proof that you MAY be able to get a cake there.

In the spotlight...Coronado Springs...

As some of you may know, Coronado does their own cakes and aren't affiliated with any of the other big Disney resort bakeries. On page 1, I noted the following flavor options at CSR: chocolate with chocolate mousse, strawberry shortcake, carrot cake (with 72 hours’ notice), mixed berry, and Oreo cookie. Well, many of these cake flavors are also available at the CSR quick service in single portion servings. The pics below are single serving options of the Oreo cookie cake, chocolate with chocolate mousse cake, and the strawberry shortcake. It is kind of interesting since these are not flavor options for custom cakes at any of the other Disney resorts + you could always buy a few pieces to taste test if you were on the fence about cake flavors for a cake at CSR.

POFQ/PORS Clarification...

Page 1 notes that cakes are done through the Boardwalk Bakery and can be picked up at the restaurant or food court at your resort. I recently got some clarification on this and wanted to share...

1. While the cake would be made by the Boardwalk Bakery, you will need to order the cake through PORS/POFQ's cake line (407-934-5822) if you need it delivered to your resort. i.e. you cannot put your order in directly with the Boardwalk Bakery.

2. You also have the option of having the cake delivered to your resort room. So, you don't need to go out of your way to pick up your cake if you're staying at PORS/POFQ and want your cake at the resort.

While this is not a cake made by one of the Disney bakeries...it is Disney themed and is a concept the Disney bakeries should be able to do. It's also one of my cakes :D

I'm not going to inundate the Cake Talk with pics of it, but if you want to see more...you can check out my PTR over in the trip reports section.

The cake idea actually was one I had for my younger daughter's Disney cake last year; however, I wanted the sand castle topper...which would have put the cake between $250-300  I couldn't find an edible image of Prince Eric's castle, so I wound up with this- which turned out to be Sophia the First's. The topper turned out a little more messy than I would have liked, but it's still not awful and it at least has a similar vibe to Eric's castle. The cake also has a dinglehopper, snarfblatt, and I figured the silver platter would be just another one of Ariel's underwater shipwreck finds. I

In any event, it might serve as a good Ariel cake inspiration photo since they don't offer a 3D Ariel topper at this time.

Sorry, it's been a tough week so I'm kind of late posting a few cakes I saw pop up this week.

This one is another good example of getting an edible image on a fairly basic buttercream cake...

This Cars cake is pretty cute...not too often that you see them decorating the cake board...

And I thought of @figmentfan423 when I saw this next one. They asked the GF to make a mini wedding cake that was inspired by the colors of Figment. i.e. sort of a conceptual approach to a character themed cake.

ROOM SERVICE CHARGES

I know we've addressed gratuity to some degree, but I recently got some clarification on this matter if you have a cake delivered to your room (@real mad hatter - this would impact the cake you're considering). There is a room service charge if you have your cake delivered to your room. Gratuity is wrapped up into this fee. Ex. that Peter Pan cake I had in my previous post was quoted at $50, but it was delivered to the guest's room and they were assessed this room service charge. It brought the cost of the cake up to $65.

Obviously, you will not be assessed a room service fee if you have it delivered to a meal at a restaurant, but the cake cost will be included in your total. If you are a party of 6 (or more) OR are using TiW, that auto 18% gratuity amount will be impacted by the cost of the cake. If you are not on TiW and are a party of 5 or smaller, it will just be factored into the suggested gratuity figures.

I didn't even think of that. I guess when I call I will ask if I can pick it up. I am still contemplating doing something out on the beach that evening so thinking if I or my husband go get it and bring it out all lit up with candles it could be pretty cool. And maybe cheaper!

That would be really nice to have a cake out on the beach. Maybe time it w/EWP. It also would be a pretty easy walk from Wave...i.e. no up and down...just out the auto doors, past the pool and out to the beach.

Just found this cake that popped up...and I LOOOOOOOVE it! :inlove:

1377439097_zps101ab8a6.jpg

The cake was designed after a combination of the couple's Lenox wedding cake topper and their wedding invitation. It's hard to read the card in this image, but it essentially says the couple went out on their first date in 1979 to see Lady and the Tramp. It's a 6" made by the Contemporary for $119. I don't know if it's b/c I'm a huge Lenox fan or if it's b/c it's a something so simple that makes it so unique...but I adore this cake. :)
