Sorry I haven't posted cakes in a while. Yes, life has been pretty brutal of late, but there just haven't been a ton of Disney bakery created cakes floating around the web of late. I do have a few for you ...

This one was delivered to Coral Reef. The cost was $55 and the person supplied the plastic figures to go on the cake...

Another Frozen themed cake...

And while not exactly custom cakes, these are cakes you can pick up at CSR, and are some of the flavors available to you if you order through them (since they do cakes a bit differently - as noted in the options by location section)...

I saw this in their wedding cake gallery, but I don't know if any of the bakeries would be willing to do this technique for a special occasion cake. Still, it's cute...

I also saw a whole section on Disney created groom's cakes. These are once again proof that some of the Disney bakeries will sculpt, but you're going to pay a premium for it. I mean, it's not just a Disney thing so I wouldn't look at it like that. Just know that sculpted cakes ALWAYS cost significantly more. I've done my share of sculpting and it's definitely a lot more work. The GF bakery is usually your best bet for sculpted cakes if you just have to have one and it's in the budget...still, no guarantees.

I love this topiary Donald above created from the white chocolate Donald topper, but I'm proof that it's pretty rare that they'll do anything like this. As some of you may recall, I merely asked that Donald be dressed in an edible grass skirt and Hawaiian lei and I was given a big fat no. I still wonder if the GF would have been more accommodating.

Well, that's about it for pics for now. If we can get pass some messes, DH and I will be going to WDW for an anniversary trip during F&W...so I will likely be bouncing around cake ideas. While I'm not ready to explain why since I'm just not feeling the whole cake idea for us just yet, I'd like to incorporate Donald, Stitch, and a skull. :)

Not a lot of cakes posting of late, but I've got a few for you. And if all goes well, I may have some pics of a cake that might go well for a Universal trip. So, hopefully it's not a cake wreck so I can post pics tonight or tomorrow. Either way, here are a few Disney cakes :)

I know this one was done by the GF...

And a wedding cake. Not sure which Disney bakery made it, but it's pretty. Not very Disney-ish, but pretty. It's too bad they don't do custom cupcake orders.

AMAZING as usual!!!! Love it! Cadence is now planning her Minnion birthday and says she has to have a cake just like this!

Thanks! While it's a lot of cake compared to previous cakes, it was relatively easy to make. I also realized that the base cake shape would also work for R2D2.

Happy Saturday :) I have a few cakes for you...

First up, we have a groom's cake that was made by the GF Bakery. The couple got married on the Dream, so it's not like this wedding was part of a resort wedding package. i.e. this should have been given similar treatment as most custom cake orders placed for the bakery. Then again, they paid in advance...so maybe not. Either way, it was $260, which isn't bad for something like this...

next up...A Dumbo cake made by the AKL bakery. It was around $100.

Next up...a Disney bakery wedding cake. Not sure if they'd do this for a non-wedding cake, but LOVE the idea of a dragon wrapping around the cake.

Wow, to me it seems like there is a huge discrepancy between the Pirate chest and Dumbo cakes. I'd feel ripped off by the Dumbo cake @$100 if I'd seen that chest cake first. Although from previous posts I wouldn't say that the Dumbo cake price would be unexpected or out of line. Maybe that Pirate cake was $2600? LOL total steal @ 260- agreed.

Is everything edible on the Chest cake? The chest itself also? Wow!

I also love the dragon. So cool.

Personally, I think the chest cake is underpriced. I've seen cakes like this go for $400-800, so I'm wondering if there was a deal cut since a wedding was involved...even if it wasn't happening at the GF. The Dumbo cake is probably a bit overpriced, but comparable to other cakes I've seen like that- at least price-wise.

I'm also pretty sure everything is edible with the chest cake. Some of the coins appear to be foil wrapped- so the foil is a no, but everything else just appears to be pastillage or gum paste covered in luster dust.

Btw great job with the Minion cake. Love it!

Thank you :) I was pretty pleased with it. Of course it's waaaaaay more cake than we needed and there was no good way of breaking it down to bring it in to work. Oh well...I never really consider the servings when getting into these projects.

I would have expected the chest cake to be that expensive also-or more. The detail is incredible.
I would love to have a wedding cake from the GF but without wanting to get remarried I doubt it will ever happen ;)

I keep flip flopping on the cakes I want to order for our trip. Go big or go home? Or just take it easy, lol.
Especially after seeing what happened with some the cakes you've had and how disappointed you were. I'm so afraid I'll build it all up in my head and then be let down.

I hear you on the amount of cake you end up making. That always happens to me also. In my case though it's because I'm terrible at making the details smaller-have to make them big. It's like being 3 and needing to build with MegaBlocks versus the big kids who get to use Lego!

For whatever reason, I just enjoy decorating bigger cakes a bit more. I'm not a cupcake person- well, at least as far as decoration goes - so that's probably why.

As for ordering a cake...I think I've found my solution...I'm just going to skip doing business with the Contemporary bakery. There have been a number of complaints over the last 6-8 months with their cakes, and it doesn't seem to be impacting the other bakeries. I'm sure it's related to Chef Brian moving on to other things. I'm probably going to bite the bullet and work with Pat again at the GF. I don't love working with her, but there are very few complaints that come from cakes made by the GF.

That's good to hear as I was stressing about ordering from GF (after reading comments) but it seems to be where the cakes come from for all restaurants I was going to choose to have cakes delivered to.
(Now-before I seem too crazy-it's only 4 cakes, most of which will be mini cakes if I can get away with it )

Maybe I should have the most detailed cake delivered on its own (for my DD's birthday) and the other 3 delivered together at a difference restaurant (our Anniversary, my parents' first trip and it would just be cruel to not get one for my DS at that point). I'm worried about not being able to sample all the awesome desserts everyone posts because I've ordered too many cakes, lol!

In keeping with the Go Big or Go Home mentality for this first ever trip!!

I was very happy with my cake (page 16 post # 312) from the Beach Club. We ate at Cape May. I was able to get my oreo filling which was not on any list. As well as the price was very reasonable. They did a great job with my vision and can not wait to order our anniversary cake for Sept when we are eating at the Yacht Club

I'd probably approach it one of two ways. Option 1 is to have all of them delivered to 1 meal - the meal which you are the least enticed by their dessert offerings. Option 2 is to have them delivered to 4 separate meals...especially if it's mini cakes...since those would be a bite or 2 per person, but not so much to prevent anyone from ordering a true dessert.
