WDW Surveys Guests: Gambling!

I just do not agree with the temptation being there for a parent to skip off at night to bet the entire family's WDW trip money with the hopes of doubling it or whatever. How would you explain to your family all of the vacation money is gone(remember Clark in Vegas Vacation...no money left for the trip)? Besides, I do not think the addition of amusement park rides to Vegas had the impact to making Vegas a "family vacation spot" that it was intended to do so why intermingle the two at WDW.

While you have a very valid point, I don't agree that others should do with out because some people do not have enough self control.

Exactly....how many people visit WDW now and put the whole trip on Visa or Mastercard because they really don't have the money, they just want a vacation. Meanwhile, they continue to only pay the minimums on their credit cards each month and never get out of debt.

Thanks for being so respectful of my opinion. I appreciate all sides of the spectrum on this issue. I get to hear the devastation gaming causes first hand from the stories that come through our collection department. It is really sad and I would hate to think of a magical trip to WDW being ruined by a temptation that could immediately impact the trip for the whole family.

At Disney or at home, the temptation to gamble is there. You can gamble on line or at a casino, so, what is the difference. Not everyone is a bumbling moron like Clark Griswald.

Have any of you ever been to the Mohegan Sun in CT? It's amazingly theme-parkish. and I was quite surprised by the array of companies willing to set up shop in their mall. I dunno, call me odd, but the casino itself doesn't disturb me. What concerns me more is seeing Starbuck's and supposedly moral comapanies like Ben and Jerry's there, and I somehow can't help but wonder if the Native Americans' ancestors aren't looking down with concern. It's kind of like building a shopping mall at the former sight of Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin. I bet Disney would be shaking his head in Heaven, but I suspect the current Disney owners wouldn't have a problem with it.
Yep, I sure have seen the Sun. I find it amazingly mallish, not theme parkish.
As to the ancestors, I would like to believe they are resting easily because finally the Native Americans have some money, some security and something they can actually call their own. I doubt they built anything on any sacred ground.

That point was used a kajillion times when the Indians wanted to open Foxwoods and again when they wanted to open the Sun. This point was usually pushed by the moral majority who wish to rule everyone by their rules.

Casino's

I still think it just wouldn't be a good fit for Disney. If they would have to do it, then maybe Discovery Island would be the perfect place. Isolated and no kids policy. That way if you are there as an adult, there would be no problems! Anyway, I just don't think it would fit into the Disney Personna. I mean Disney/Gambling it just doesn't go together.

I'm jumping back into this as there have been a lot of posts since i left for work... AS A DEALER IN A CSINO... again I think this is a wonderful idea... the boost to conventions as well as the local clientel it would bring in would be wel worth it. And as for those who feel that the casino is UN-Disney what do you call the beverage carts the surround the World Showcase serving alcohol... how are you explaining that to your kids? Putting a casino at the WDW Resort would give me an opportunity to work for the Mouse (a dream of mine) and still be able to stay in the profession I have trained for. Yes some people have gambling problems but as has been stated before with gaming in 38 states they will be able to find it. As for poeple blowing their vacation money... I do beleive that most people who visit the World have a budget for all expenses while in the parks...well this would just be one more thing for the adults to budget into their trip. All things said, if you don't approve.. don't go in. You won't even know it's there.

I like the discovery island idea...they could theme it as the cave of wonders:)

The mall is certainly mall-ish. I meant the decor around the casino area itself (and the hotel lobby). It's very attractive.

That's what I meant by saying I don't have a problem with it. Mostly I'm glad that reservations are profitable. It just seems a tad hypocritical that they want to be seen as 'living by natural and traditional ways' still when a casino is anything but, its just as capitalistic as anything else out there. But maybe I'm wrong - maybe a casino is just a modern twist on traditional trading.

It seems to go against everything Disney, but I wouldn't be negative about it. I'd love to play Mickey Mouse slot machines. Just think, the dots on the dice for craps would be little Mickey heads. All the cards would be Disney Characters (Mickey Mouse = Ace of Spades, Cinderella = Q of hearts).

I wouldn't mind it at all! I say, bring it on!! :sohappy: :sohappy:

Wouldn't you think that the Quenn of Hearts would be, um, THE QUEEN OF HEARTS!!!!????

I think it is a twist, sort of a big one, btw, but, traditions do change. As to capitalistic, I totally agree.

Just an aside here. I received a red mark on my reputation. Now, I have no problem with that, people don't always agree on everything. What I have the PROBLEM with is: if you cannot own the "bad" or "good" mark, don't bother.
I look upon it as a coward's way out. Agree or disagree, but, own it, please.

Ya, don't you just love when people do that.
Then you have to go back to the thread and re-read everything to try to figure out what you said that could possibly P.O. someone.

LOL I PO people all the time and I have left some negs. BUT, I always sign off on it.
As to going back and figuring it out, heck, if they cannot leave their name, then I really don't give a rat's behind what they think.

Some people don't realize that they have to sign the name. Up until recently, I thought it was automatic. All those people who have gotten good rep. from me have no idea who gave it to them:)
