News WDW Resorts to add fees for parking

Meh. Considering the hotel Im planning on staying at in DC is $44 a night to park, I think its a damned good deal.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that your room in DC is intrinsically worth what you're paying. Market for market, the accommodations at Disney are inferior to similarly priced rooms elsewhere. Part of the justification has always been the fact that you're on-site. Being able to park your vehicle there is part of that equation, and price structure.

I have never seen a company so hell bent on pushing its loyal customer base out the door with fees.
Could not agree more! Were not over planners so making the fastpass plus reservations later, and playing the line game is fine with us. We went last week, and only waited 3 times in a line, road everything we wanted to but 1 ride.

Prime example of the price grabbing with Team Disney Orlando grabbing every cent out of your pocket in Florida: It's cheaper to park at the Disneyland Resort than at the Walt Disney World parks. $22 in Florida versus $20 in California and from merchandise to food, we found many similar items priced slightly lower in Anaheim, which completely defies economics of California versus Florida. Not that it is any surprise, just an observation.

Overheard in Bob Iger's office...

"Sir! Parking in California is going to be cheaper than in Florida."

"It is??? *phone heard dialing* Chapek!!! Parking in Anaheim is cheaper than Orlando! This is unacceptable, fix it! And when is that Orlando resort fee coming? I want... no, I *NEED*... a bigger profit margin out of the swamps. Our stock price isn't high enough, I don't have enough yet to buy a large island to retire on..."

I get why Disney is adding the parking fee, it is a standard at the nicest resorts in Florida and I'm sure elsewhere. However, when is the last time I stayed on property and thought "wow, this is one of the nicest resorts I've ever stayed in!"

Most of the resorts are worn down, old, and are "fancy" quality inns. We have been staying at the Ritz-Carlton, Four Seasons, and the Waldorf for a few years now because I couldn't stomach paying the astronomical prices that Disney charges for a subpar room when I could be spending the same price at a real luxury resort. The ONLY reason we have stayed on property the few times in the past couple years is because I knew we wouldn't be charged a resort or parking fee.

Sorry Disney, I feel like you are getting a little carried away with the nickle and diming.

Anyone looking for an amazing hotel stay at the Flamingo crossings townplace suites or spring hill suites. Great prices, free breakfast, no resort or parking fee, and right by animal kingdom

this is exactly right... I'm a DVC member and stay in their so called "deluxe" resorts...and while nice... some of their rooms there are really run down too and Bonnet Creek rooms are nicer in many cases

Every room ive stayed at on Disney property has been worth it to me and obviously countless thousands upon thousands of other guests.

If your standard is the outside world... that's what you'll get... instead of getting Disney.

Re-reading the posts before that, in the context of that specific quote, and it may not have come across as what I meant (don't really understand why I have to constantly explain myself to a certain few?) but I was reminding people who said they would start staying off-site that off-site hotels charge for parking too. It wasn't justifying or downplaying what they're doing. But make an issue when there isn't one.

Yes but as a bunch of people have stated the cost of an offsite hotel room is typically much less. Even if you add in the parking fee at offsite resorts you are still ahead of the game. Marie

Honestly depends on what you are trying to be ahead of. For my family location is the #1 end game. Offsites, no matter how cheap, just aren't worth it to us. If your Endgame is cheapest, then yes, go further out on 1-4 and you can find free parking and motels for $69 bucks a night.

That is so sad!!! I guess Disney's management has a clear mission, "make money by all means possible" I love to go to Disneys resort, and usually rent a car but with this increase then I rather stay outside the resort maybe in a cheaper hotel, there are several great hotels in the International Drive with free parking and all less than $200.00 per night, and I may say with better acomodations. Disney management is making of their vacation experience an expensive one.

Just did the math, as i get hotel and park ticket discounts through my employer. I could go off site. 5 day park hopper passes go for 886 with discount, and i can get a hotel 1 mile from the gates for 50 bucks a night. Thats a grand total before gas food and feeding my PIN addiction for $1,186.00 give or take.

A week at wilderness lodge with the same tickets, dining plan, and on site fees would be like $4,500.

This may drive more people off site.
You can't compare a night a Wilderness Lodge with a $50 hotel room. You undermine your argument with absurdity. Price a comparable hotel and then crunch the numbers. Also add parking fees for the parks, as you will need those if not staying at a Disney Resort, unless you take a free offsite hotel shuttle. Your argument will still have merit, but the difference is not as much as you suggest.

There are many much closer than I drive. Heck, the DS hotels may have those fees, but most still come out under $200/night, and they have great amenities and much larger rooms.

My main point is i could totally use my corporate discounts and get a deeply discounted resort very close to there, and cut my costs in half, bit a happy wife is a happy life. Ill likely find a way to still make it work, and cut something else to compensate for the hike. Disneys not the same to my wife if its not on site.

No but you could very easily compare any random moderate or value to say the Hyatt Grand Cypress which is at about $159 a night and below what the values are right now. Yes, the Hyatt has a parking fee but that is still about $170 a night with parking built in in a really nice hotel with a great pool and only one exit away from Disney . Get yourself a AP and you don't have to worry about parking at the parks. Do you not think many many people may not now go this route ?
