WDW Resort TVs

I would really love to record the WDW Top 7 show on our trip next month, and there are three ways I can think of to do it:

1) Sit in front of the TV for a half hour aiming my camcorder at the TV. This would be the worst way to do it, since I would have video footage of a Television playing, along with all the background sounds (such as me and my wife talking, my wife telling me how pathetic I am, etc. LOL), not to mention the fact that my hand would not be steady for half an hour, so the screen would constantly be moving.

2) Pull out my entertainment center at home in order to unplug my VCR and lug with me to Florida and then hook it up to the TV in my room and tape the show. Pain in the butt and probably not worth the effort.

3) If this way is even possible, it would be the easiest way to do it. Plug my camcorder into the TV with the audio/video plugs and record the show onto my camcorder tape.

So, regarding option 3, my question is whether or not those TVs have audio/video jacks in the back. I can't remember from last year if they do or not. And if they do have audio/video jacks, would this method work? Could I hook up the audio/video plugs from my camcorder to the TV and actually record the show that's playing on the TV, or would it still record the room and whatever is taking place in the room? I guess if the TVs don' t have audio/video jacks, I could bring my RF Modulator with me and hook it up that way, but before I waste the time doing that, I first need to know if it would tape the show, or if it would just tape whatever's going on in the room.

Actually, the thought occured to me that it probably depends alot on what kind of camcorder you have. Some probably could hook into a TV and record off TV and others can't. I decided to hook mine up to my TV and test it out and I couldn't get it to record off the TV. I even dug out the instruction manual and there was nothing in there about recording off TV, so apparently, mine doesn't have that option. :(

Option #4. Go to mousebits and download it.:sohappy:

Problem with that is that I'm not satisfied to just have it on my computer. I want a DVD or a tape that I can watch on my TV. I don't want to have to sit in front of a computer and watch a fuzzy image on my screen.

Unfortunately, I'm not computer literate enough to be able to download it and then burn it onto a disc. I'm not even sure that I have the proper equipment even if I knew how to do it.

on in the room....

I ACTUALLY DID THIS.... On our last night i stacked all the couch cushions on top of the coffee table in our 2BR villa at SSR. I propped the camcorder on top and secured it with other pillows. It worked great. I thought i would be able to plug in the AV plugs to the Tv but for some reason i couldn't get it to work

As for the sound i made it the loudest on the TV and recorded it after everyone went to bed. Throughout the whole 10 days I slept on the pullout couch in the living room of the 2BR bc all the beds were taken ...:D... so noone was actually "in the exact room" when i did it but they could hear it through the walls a little bit....

And yes like you mentioned ,my family thought i was indeed pathetic but i was happy!~:D >>sure you can download it yourself but what fun would that be :ROFLOL:

I would also love a DVD copy of this. Wish I could help you out but I don't know of a way either.

Like I said, my option #2 above would probably work, but it would involve lugging a VCR with me down there to hook up to the TV. :ROFLOL: I guess if I want a copy bad enough, I may have to do it this way, but I'd really rather not pull out my corner entertainment center in order to unplug the darn VCR just to have to plug it back in and push the thing back in the corner once we get home. I suppose I could go to a resale shop or a pawn shop and see if I can find a used VCR for really cheap so I don't have to unhook mine.

Well you could download them on your computer as most new comps have dvd burners in them...and if yours doesnt then they are pretty cheap to buy these days....probally pic up a external one for lil more then $100 and since it is external you dont need to crack open your case just install drivers and go from there.....

Odds are you have a relative/neighbor/coworker who's known as a computer whiz. If so, ask them if they'd be willing to download and burn the show onto a disc for you, and offer them a few bucks for their trouble. It probably is the easiest option.

The problem with the camcorder idea is that the TV would have to have audio and video OUTPUTS. Most, if not all, the resort TVs would have A/V INPUTS, so you can watch your camcorder or hook up a video game or mp3 player (I recorded all sorts of movies & TV shows on my Archos MP3 player before our last trip. Worked great for the drive there and back - when I wasn't driving of course - AND we'd watch Disney movies or MST3K or other fun stuff before going to bed). And most TVs nowadays will have audio outputs, as most people hook the sound up from their home TV to a stereo system. Heck, it's probably cheaper for TV manufacturers to just include the audio outputs in all TVs, instead of adjusting the assembly line so some sets have 'em and some don't.

But the fact of the matter is, there's not much call for a TV to have a video output, you know what I mean? And I'd doubt any of the TVs at the Disney resort would have 'em.

So, if you want better quality than downloading those shows online, or setting up your camcorder, you pretty much need to pull the coaxial cable out of the TV and plug it into a VCR or DVD recorder. It may seem wasteful, but there are stores like best Buy, Circuit City, Target & Walmart within a 15-20 minute drive of the resorts. You can always opt to buy a VCR or DVD recorder while you're down there. Cheap minor-brand units can often be found for less than 50 dollars, sometimes even around the 30-dollar range. You can buy one, record what you want, then leave the recorder behind (or, if you have no soul :) return it to the store, assuming they have a lenient enough return policy. And if they charge a 15% restocking fee, hell, consider it the price to rent the recorder in the first place).

Which begs the question, just how did the OP try this at home.

After spending the day fighting with HD handshakes and downloading firmware updates for a new TV, I am all to aware of the problems that can happen when setting up AV equipment.

If his camera has video in, it should be possible. However he may have to get a Coax to RCA converter

to the OP, do you bring a laptop? You can get a PCMCIA tuner card for +/- $100. You can record it directly to your laptop with that, then burn your own DVD.

I was able to try it at home because my TV has audio/video jacks in the front so that I was able to plug it into the front of my TV. But apparently, as Magoo indicated, they were INPUT, not output. Because I can watch my camcorder on the TV that way, but I can't record what's on the TV that way.

I got to thinking last night though, that i have a cheap VCR in my master bedroom that I can unhook and bring down there without having to pull out my corner entertainment center in the living room. So I may just go that route.

And I don't own a laptop. But I'll test out that VCR today to make sure it works...it was a cheapo DVD/VCR combo for around 50 bucks, and I hooked it up to the TV in our bedroom, but haven't used it in years.

One thing with using a VCR. Some places like hotels use locks on coaxial cable to keep you from unhooking their stuff. Its a round sleeve that goes over the threaded end connection which you need a tool to remove. I havent looked for a few years but I remember seing them either at POR or CBR 10 or so years ago.

I always wanted to download the resort tv shows into my Ipod. I checked out Mousebits a few times and have no idea what I am doing. Can anyone help with that? Are instructions provided on the site? I was so confused and frustrated and then sad that I couldn't get what I needed. If someone could help me, I would be very grateful.
Thanks

Mousebits actually still could fix your problem. Depending on what members are online, some have all resort TV programs as an ISO file which is a DVD rip that can be burned for normal resort playback with any decent DVD software..NERO comes to mind

You can download Stacy's 2005 & 2006 and Kryssa's 2004 on Google...it plays on a standard computer with Quicktime since it's an MP4 format. And with those files you can also Burn them to a DVD with Roxio Creator 9 (which I have) And I have no probs with them...I have at least 20 dvd's now with youtube vids of the parks.

Here are the one's from Google. On the top far right you will see a button that says DOWNLOAD and a drag & open box to reveal Video Ipod/Sony PSP. Click the button and download! It's that easy!
