WDW Permits Part 5

Unless Carsland is further away then we think. If they don't plan to break group on it for another year, then it might make sense to patch up Catastrophe. It's also possible that they will start in the LMA area and try to hold on to backlot as long as possible so they are not loosing two attractions for the whole time.
Good point. I'm sure it will be a while before anything major begins.

This wouldn't shock me. That park has 6 rides, so taking one off line is tough. I would expect them to wait as long as possible to close the Studio Backlot Tour.

I also think it could just be a situation where nothing has been green light or wasn't greenlight in time, and the money was already allotted to this project.

There are many instances of Disney touching things up weeks or months before removing them. I don't think this has any bearing on what could be happening at DHS in the coming years.

Very likely. They could tear down LMA without affecting Backlot (much) - since they built the dang thing and only re-routed the tour so that it didn't have any residential streets to visit. They could keep the backlot tour scabbed together for a while.

Meh, as we all know, TDO counts pennies. If something new at DHS was even a glimmer in their eye, they would halt any expenditures on things that would come down....unless they had to repair them for safety reasons.

I'm hoping/thinking that too. Start with the LMA space (and theoretically Soundstage 1 for the door coaster) and try to hold on to Backlot for as long as possible. And that could go along with TDO's tendency to drag construction out longer to spread costs over multiple fiscal years.

Possible a strange thought: I wonder if, assuming a full Carsland is built, that they might open it in stages to increase capacity at DHS ASAP. Specifically, if it were a similar setup as in Cali, they could do the "front" entrance to Carsland and open Mater's relatively quickly adding to the ride count of the park while still doing a lot of the complicated work on RSR which would surely be along an edge of the park. I could see arguments for and against such an arrangement but since Carsland already exists, the excitement for a full blown "grand opening" might be less.

The problem is that Soundstage 1 isn't big enough for any attraction that we'd all want (specifically anything coaster-like). It would need to extend to the rear of the building, and have them first move creative costuming (which really has no purpose being in the studios any longer).

And based on the overlays people have done, it all needs to go in order to fit it all in there.

Is that a "problem" in the sense that moving costuming and building there cannot be done? Or is it a "problem" just in that it costs money?

Can the Backlot Tour continue even if that behind the building space is involved in construction for a Monsters Inc attraction?

I guess I'm saying that if they're going to do something worthwhile with Soundstage 1, they first need to move Creative Costuming. Otherwise, the building by itself is only big enough - maybe - for yet another dark ride.

Costuming can really go anywhere on property at this point. CMs have to go there occasionally for fittings (specifically parade performers and others - namely female performers - who wear fitted garments), but otherwise, there's no reason for it to be at DHS. In fact, it could go in any of the Admin areas, like NSA or around Textiles and the Distribution Centers.

Right now, the tram just circles through a small lot, into costuming, and back out. They could cut out that loop without shutting down the tour. However, if they're also tearing down LMA....the tram tour will consist of the Canyon. Not even worth it.

I thought this was interesting:

1520 Magic Kingdom Dr, Bay Lake Florida - Skyway Signage

The address would put this near where they are building the new restrooms. It's not unusual to see old attraction names on drawings, but I have never seen that done in the work description. Almost like they don't want to reveal what is are is really going to be.

Also, does anyone know what these are?

8/30: 501 Restaurantosurus Rd - Dinoland Dinosaur Special FX Projector
9/24: Dinosaur - Dinosaur Projector Package

Finally got caught up on this weeks permits. A few weeks ago there were a bunch of Mechanical/Electrical permits for various DHS resturants. Another batch came this week. I am guessing that has something to do with Next-Gen.

Left Block Resturants - Electrical Modifications
Studio Catering Company - Electrical Modifications
Brown Derby Resturant - Electrical Modifications
Sci-Fi Dine-In - Electrical Modifications
Mama Melrose - Electrical Modifications

Also another permit for the Epcot front of park M&G

West Gate Development Area - Area Development

Change the name from "Studios Backlot Tour" to "Cars Land Construction Preview Tour".

Maybe I'll ride it again.

Actually, that sounds kind of neat. I would love to get an up close look at how they make concrete mountains and paint them for ambiance, the background technical development, etc. Everything does not have to be an actual ride for me to get something out of it. Of course there would be safety issues surrounding construction for tour participants. I'm sure it also takes out the magic when it is revealed. If they themed the tour "set design" it would fit right into the overall DHS theme.
