It's fascinating they have to file permits to build portable, temporary structures like the F&W kiosks. They seem made of ply-wood, last minute, but obviously there is much more to these, like electrical.

They don't do permits for all the kiosks, there must be something specific about these that requires a permit.

Here is a graph I put together of the number of permits issued between 1971 and 2013.

this is pavement extensions for the articulated buses, right?

It might be related to that. In three of the areas the permit drawings show the work area around the ends of median islands which would lead me to believe they are removing parts of those islands. They could be doing that to accommodate the longer buses.

Saw this permit the other day. Can't think of what purpose installing a GPS antenna on a fixed building serve.

Entertaimnet Warehouse Backstage - Installation of GPS Antenna for Parade

Well, it could be for DGPS. According to Wikipedia, DGPS is a means of increasing GPS accuracy in an area. A ground based receiver uses the satellite signals to read its position like any GPS receiver would, but then because it has a known fixed position it can calculate the error in the triangulated position. It then broadcasts a signal with a correction factor.

If they are using GPS on the parade floats they may need the additional accuracy.
