I was just talking FP vs Gift Card. For some, time is important.
Less time waiting in line means more time to experience more of the park= more value for my day. A $100 gift card can't make memories. Riding more attractions, seeing a show, one that maybe we wouldn't have had time for otherwise, or meeting a character, does.

I'm sorry that you think someone must be high on Pixie Dust to think that way. Value is subjective.

But think of the upcharge events a gift card could buy you.

Quite the contrary. I have a very good memory of a $100 gift card that USO recently gave me simply because we requested a booth at a City Walk restaurant (as part of a walk-up reservation, mind you) and after two attempts to seat us at a table next to the restrooms over the course of 45 minutes we left and expressed our disappointment at the guest services booth. USO also called ahead to another restaurant of our choice and had a booth waiting for our party when we arrived.

What is this thing of which you speak???? Customer Service? Wow, I remember when Disney used to have it. How wonderful, and I am glad I'm going to spend more time at Universal this trip!

No, I'm just tired of hearing the whiners.
Complain about things, but still spend your money at Disney.
If you are truly upset then cancel your vacation.
Is it somehow impossible to simply skip this thread if you feel it is too whiny for you?

We have stopped going to Disney for long vacations before this specific event, but many events like this recently are the main cause of our conversion to a "Disney in small doses" family.

So is this $500 for all nine dinners? Or just one? Because the former isn't the worst deal, but the latter would be a shameful cash grab.

Interesting side note. I wandered through the thread on this on "the other site" and someone mentioned that this new event was for 10 or so guests. The DPB announcement for this indicated that each dinner would be for "no more than 60" guests. There was no reason given by the poster on that thread for that number (they weren't claiming any insider knowledge or anything), and it seems ridiculously low for an event of this nature. I would assume that goal was to get a full 60 people just due to the profit potential that TDO seems to think is possible with this. But if this event really was limited to be far less than 60, say the 10 that this person claimed, then this event would actually lose money. My original guess was that the 30 or so parties that were booted represented $7,000 in gross revenue. Any ticket sales to this upcharge event below 20 would make this a money loser in my opinion. I still assume the premium event incurring higher food and labor costs. They would need to sell 14 tickets just to equal any monies they original reservations represented.

Personally I think the goal here will be to sell the full 60 tickets. And if this is being marketed to the Golden Oak crowd I could see them hitting their number.
