I just finished reading Hidden Magic and loved it! I'm loving this thread - lots of great suggestions! I'm always looking for books! My DH loves the Disney Mountains Imagineering book. Making me want to go to the book store right now. :D

Hi all

So I'm currently reading "The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World" and I am very much enjoying it...so much so that I'm going to finish it earlier than I thought I would!

I'm looking for WDW book suggestions.
I like to learn about the history of WDW, secrets, imagineering, the parks and so on.
Anyone have any suggestions for a book they've read and liked?

Thanks!

I wanted to let you know that I went & purchased The Hidden Magic of Walt Disney World, I am lovin it. Ok, so now you have me wanting to go buy mousejunkies.

Although this post was suppoused to be about fact based books does anyone know of any novels or junior novels other than Kingdom Keepers that is set in Disney World?

Many, MANY years ago (lets not go into how many) :animwink: I read a series of teen spy novel about a brother and sister named Tom and Liz Austin. There was one called Disneyland Hostage. It's set in Cali not WDW but it's MK so the similarities are enough that you can easily picture it.

Haha well I'm glad you're loving it...I certainly did.
Mousejunkies is very good so far...I can relate to the author, being a fellow Disney nut myself. I recommend it so far...it was just what I was looking for.

I ordered it today! Thanks for another great suggestion.
I have basically made lists of things I need to look for from the Hidden Magic book. So excited for our trip now. My mom is going to think I am an expert!

I also picked up the 2009 Passporter.
I don't particularly need a guide book and I already have the unofficial which has more then enough info, but I couldn't resist the back pages with the pockets where you can write about your trip. I have never written anything down before and I am looking forward to taking the time at then end of the day to do this. It will help me with my trip report as well!! Also looking through the guidebook I really like the layout and I think it is cute where they describe the rides with each person from the family's perspectives. I imagine this helps a ton for families who have never been and have children.

Oh yay! Let me know how you like it!

Will do - waiting for it to come in the mail. I had finished the other book already so I am getting a little anxious!!!

I'm a big fan of Mousejunkies because of the great style and wit the author has. It's NOT a comprehensive guide (and I don't think it's intended to be) but it IS a real fan's eye view of the parks, how to enjoy them - and the funny things that happened on numerous visits. Bill Burke has a great 'feel' for the subject and it's great to read something by someone who has an innate love for the parks but doesn't allow that to color their thoughts and advice. Plus, he's just laugh-out-loud funny!

I just saw these Guide to the Magic books in my Celebrations mag.

Anyone have them?
The lost journals looks interesting to me, although I wonder if it would be the same things that were in "The Hidden Magic of WDW" book.
Also I am kinda looking at the journal. Even though that is why I bought the passporter so I had a place to write about the trip. This journal looks more in depth though.
Anyone recommend them?

Hey Friend!
So I know I am chiming in a little late but I just started reading this book and thought about this thread you had started.
The book is called Designing Disney "Imagineering and the Art of the Show" w/John Hench (who I might add is one of my favorite Imagineers). I have fallen in love with this book, besides being written so well, you will find that John speaks so elegantly and lovingly about his projects, coworkers, Walt, and Disney in general. You can really hear that he is a person who truly enjoys his job and was enriched by working for the company and has left and continues to leave his mark on the company as well. I highly recommend you giving it a look, it doesn't center around WDW but it does discuss Disney as a whole.

I love the ' Art of Disney' (Christopher Finch); Walt Disney Imagineering; and for the curious pull-outs - Disney Treasures (Robert Tieman). I'm glad you started this thread - Russell usually buys me a book while we're there and hides it away to give me at Xmas.

One of the best pure-WDW books (IMO) is Since the World Began by Jeff Kurtti. It's fact-loaded, filled with unique pictures and a brilliant read for anyone interested in behind-the-scenes info, particularly the early version of AK. It might be a little difficult to track down (released during the 25th in '96/7) but if you can get it for a decent price, it's well worth it.

I have that book :)
I also have the imagineering one, which is great.

Oh boy...I just finished Mousejunkies today (highly recommend it!) and I need a new book...which one to get now..? Hmm

Disney Princess5,

I usually follow your lead on the books, but when i was looking online I found one book titled Creating the Magic by Lee Cockerell. It hit me when I was reading the book content, that I think that is what most of us are looking for is having that everyday Magic in our lives. Also this book is endoresed by the priciples of the Disney Institute.
