WDW Awakens ...

I agree but sometimes we have to be realistic. We have this idealistic view but were the bathrooms pristine at all times from day one? I mean ... they are bathrooms. But I understand. For me it's picking battles and the bathroom debate just doesn't hold much for me because a dirty stall or a towel on the floor happens. It's not at all going to affect my day. I'm not going to be overly critical. If it's nasty for 8 hours and nothing gets done, then there's an issue.

Even 5 years ago the bathrooms were free of liquids and debris on the floor at WDW, If you talk to CM's custodial has been cut way back and the computer dispatches custodial CM's to bathrooms no longer are there area CM's responsible for the bathrooms,

Of course the guest's lack of respect does not help either.

This is the same company with tons of lobbyists and high officials who are active in the political system (i.e Kathleen Kennedy, Bob Iger) so I believe they use that as a excuse rather than the real reason.

The lobbyists are there to create barriers to entry of competitive businesses, Example gambling in Miami...

I think this is the key change. If you're told you're responsible for all of Adventureland's bathrooms, you're going to work jolly hard to make sure they're all spotless. If a computer decides bathroom # 7 hasn't been cleaned for 30 minutes and assigns you there, you'll check in, see if anything needs doing and go back for reassignment. It's one area where automation just doesn't work, as it requires a human judgment call.

I know we like to throw out the 'bathrooms are left nasty' argument a lot but do you all truly expect them to, say, have a line of castmembers just waiting by the stalls and urinals to clean up after guests before the next ones enter? I'm not excusing laziness, lack of staffing, etc. but IMHO I've rarely encountered this issue that keeps getting brought up. Bathrooms get messy. It happens. I've personally witnessed castmembers in bathrooms almost every time and I've seen cast members take trays from guests at restaurants to throw away food and I've seen several castmembers at the same trash can looking for trash.

In that same breath, what looks dirty and messy for you one minute could be clean and nice for me the next. I think a little too much emphasis is put on the bathrooms. But I get it's more about the overall cleanliness of the resort iteself. But for me, I think they actually do a better job than many here give them credit for.

I expect the trash cans to not be overflowing and the paper towel and soap dispensers to be filled. If those things aren't happening, they are not being serviced frequently enough. So you can imagine what the rest of the place looks like. Those are the things that I have noticed an increase of during my December and February trips. Also, the condition of the sinks, a lot of them had mineral deposit stains running down the side of the sink under the faucets.

... but it is really the general population that has become just freaking disgusting pigs.

Someone needs to come onto Shark Tank with a self-cleaning bathroom stall. In full agreement that many people are disgusting pigs, I would have no problem with downward-pointed fire hoses that douse any stall upon detection of stray liquids or solids, regardless of whether the stall is still occupied. :p

I kid, of course. ;)

We need to start teaching class again... we need to start treating things with respect so the next person that walks in to anything gets to enjoy them in the way you did... not in this disgusting way that people treat things today.... Trash cans are every where whey do you need to throw your mickey ice cream bar wrapper on the ground.... Because you are special?

No because most today are worthless disgusting humans that don't care for themselves or anyone else.

But part of that is Disney's own reputation. Remember the joke in Honey, I Shrunk the Audience, where Nick says, "to tell Dad to hurry, before one of those Disney sweeping people comes by." Or how Disney says "they employ 50,000 sweepers" because every CM is responsible for picking up trash, and the area managers walk around with their little sticks. Disney has "trained" people, "This is Disney, someone will take care of it, no problem." Same thing like at Chick-Fil-A or a few other places where when they see you handling trash, they tell you, "Don't worry about it, that's MY job." Eventually people learn, and don't worry. It's a problem when the staffing doesn't match up with the expectations the organization is selling.

Yup......
Give people a chance to be slobs and they'll take it every time.

I can agree with this. I'll pay slightly more attention but I just haven't noticed the awfulness some talk about and think it's a bit exaggerated to prove a point. I do hold Disney to a very high standard, of course, but I guess I just don't really expect the bathrooms to always be 100% and If I hold them to a high standard than I should ... so ... but yes, no towels or soap and nasty sinks and mirrors, there's not really an excuse for that but I also know they're used and abused so much there's only so much that can be done on a regular basis. JMO. I'm sure there's lax staff that don't care but the way some talk about bathrooms I just think our attention could go towards something different than complaining about a towel on the floor. And yes I've stepped over puddles. The Ticket and Transportation center bathrooms always leave me feeling icky. I just think battles should be picked but in the overall grand scheme it shows a lack of care, so I get it.

I don't remember the specific model, but now that I think about it, didn't they have some sort of crazy Japanese toilet on display at Epcot once upon a not-too-distant time ago?

They did indeed I also do not remember the details, One of my favorite EPCOT exhibits was the smart green house it was powered by Grid, Solar with Battery bank and generator, I actually bought the generator control for our house (not the one at disney but the one used in the house)

Or the "Roseanne" episode where they go to Magic Kingdom and Roseanne (and Jackie) throws trash on the ground as the uppity cast member chases it and she pulls out a book on how to talk to a Disney employee.

It was expected and we still expect it, but it sadly isn't the reality anymore. It should be. That's where Disney fails because the castmembers *should* be lined up to make sure everything is spotless 24/7.

That would be amazing if it could be like that but it is really the general population that has become just freaking disgusting pigs. They wreck everything they have no values and think it is there right to take a leak on the floor because they paid for it.

What people have become in the last 15 years is just disgusting. I have someone in my bathrooms in my business every 15 minutes... they are not used nearly as much as these but everytime we go in it is stuff on the floor... broken door broken soap dispenser...

We need to start teaching class again... we need to start treating things with respect so the next person that walks in to anything gets to enjoy them in the way you did... not in this disgusting way that people treat things today.... Bullocks. Disney having to work to keep their facilities clean were long noted as a challenge and point of pride. There is even a story of Lilian questioning Walt as to why he would want to get into a business known for being dirty.

Fantastic. Something like this would be great. But Disney would probably charge us to use it.

I'm also still waiting for refillable water bottle stations over water fountains but they wouldn't want you getting clean, cold, filtered water, they want you to buy an overpriced water from them.

Look I'd even PAY to use a bottle fill station. You could walk in pay the daily fee for the water bottle station and use your MB to access

Exactly. Disney's response to larger crowds of slobbier customers should be to ramp up Custodial. Instead, they cut back. (You should see the result in Anaheim!)
