WDW 45th Anniversary

it would not be worth it to upgrade MSEP floats with new technology...literally... They would be replacing the most expensive part of the parade...the floats themselves are not where the cost lies... I am pretty sure it would be cheaper to clone a copy of Paint The Night rather than try to matke the MSEP anything more than it is... Maybe they can retire it to Disney Springs...... I mean literally...just sink it in the lake and be done with it...lol

Are you freaking serious? Why would you believe such an obviously FALSE rumor? Why on earth would DL want the tired and old MSEP back when they've got PTN? I'm sure there would literally be riots by the DL fans.

Well Disney does a lot of things that do not make sense and upset fans. If they feel WDW needs a new light parade, but they don't want to spend to build a brand new one, shipping PTN over would be the answer. They may feel DL can survive without a light parade, and they have, or they can run MSEP for nostalgia.

If Spectro wasn't destroyed, I could see them refurbishing it and bringing it back, but why would they rebuild an old parade?
Dreamlights is itself a partial "remake" of MSEP so to speak, so the precedence of creating new parades heavily inspired by older ones already exists.

Dreamlights is brought up in discussion because it stands as a fantastic example of Disney creating something that brilliantly blends nostalgia AND originality. They maintained the original msep soundtrack with some newly arranged bits as the parade progresses. And the floats are a great mixture of both brand new ones as well as heavily upgraded versions of some of the msep originals (brought up to modern lighting technology standards).

So the idea is not to simply rebuild Spectromagic exactly as it was. Rather to create a new parade heavily inspired by Spectromagic. Bring back the original soundtrack with newly arranged parts where appropriate. New floats mixed in with heavily upgraded versions of older Spectro floats (using new lighting tech). Thus a "Dreamlights equivalent" of Spectromagic, satisfying both nostalgia AND originality.

Something new would be nice. Something with new music, new floats, new ideas. I hate the idea of somehow always having to pay some form of "tribute" to the past.

I agree, and If I sound preachy about Spectromagic then I apologize but I need to get this of my chest.

While I mostly known Spectromagic way before I discovered MSEP. I always felt Spectro fit very perfectly at the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. It's difficult for me to describe but it's a pretty unique parade to say the least. And ever since it ended in 2010 I got a little bit worried for what Disney's next idea for an electrical parade at Walt Disney World would be especially after PTN debuted at Disneyland in 2015 as part of it's 60th Anniversary. The final is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen along with the music and the lights changing colors.

I find Spectromagic to be a "Tough Act To Follow" by Walt Disney World standards due to how beautiful the floats looked, the good character selection and line up, and original characters for that parade (The Spectromen) which Disney hadn't done they created fairy characters for the Tapestry Of Nations parade at Epcot. This parade was also created during the beginning of the Renaissance Era Of Disney Animation and while Michael Eisner was still CEO of Disney. While PTN does have fans and I find it okay, I'm still a bit worried to see what Disney can come up with for a new electrical parade at WDW. While MSEP has been at WDW for almost 6 years now, I fell that it might be time for a new night parade to debut at the Magic Kingdom. It may be to early to speculate what it will be but I really hope it won't be like PTN where it's felt more modern and focused more on pop music.

I remember Fantillusion (Formally at Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris) involved the same people behind Spectromagic and Fantasmic and it really shows. The parade also has it's own backstory which is similar to Fantasmic while the floats resembled the floats seen Spectromagic. The parade's music is also composed with an orchestra and can get stuck in your head just like Spectromagic did. I wish they gotten the same people behind Spectromagic to come up with a brand new nighttime parade for WDW in the future if possible.

And now that Fantillusion and Spectromagic are now gone with the only remaining nightime pardes at the Disney Parks around the world being Paint The Night,Main Street Electrical Parade, and Tokyo Disneyland Electrical Parade Dreamlights. I'm very fond of Dreamlights and while MSEP did borrow some of the music from Tokyo. I still think Dreamlights is a perfect example of doing a proper nighttime parade while MSEP is slowly starting to show signs of it's age since its almost 44 years old. Even the Small World final in Tokyo reminds me of Spectromagic instead of all the lights changing to white the lights turn black with stars until the units turn back to normal.

Spectromagic is so amazing for the fact it did not copy from the old shows. It shows Disney did it once and they can do it again. I doubt they ever will though, all the fans and mommies just LOVE the MSEP electrical parade and how it relates to Walt and how magical and nostalgic it is and how they look forward to sharing that with their grandchildren.

The Main Street Electrical Parade is a classic, no doubt about it. But Spectromagic felt like a significant upgrade when it first appeared, and the fact that it is gone is disappointing. I would hope that Disney is preparing for a new spectacular parade in the not too distant future. Spectromagic 2.0 would be a good starting place.

Perhaps they can send it to Shanghai... that would make it truly part of the Disney Family...they are the only park that has not had it creak it's way down Main Street...lol

Spectromagic 2.0 is 'imagine a parade' it can be whatever you want it to be...
