WDW 45th Anniversary

Saying it won't go beyond a cupcake was a joke...hopefully it will be more than just a fireworks upgrade... Disneyland's 50th was a huge celebration with upgrades and events all over the place...I am hoping they do the same for WDW's 50th....

Sorry...I was talking about the 45th. Wasn't responding to your comment about cupcakes. I was just responding to the OP.

I'd love that parade a lot more than anything now, but I have to be realistic. Average guests wouldn't know who the characters on the parade are... Unfortunately, it's probably going to be filled with characters from the 2000s until now, with some classics mixed in.

Unfortunately you're going to get something that involves Cars and Frozen. Love your idea of the tribute from each decade but a majority of people won't know or care about those movies.

You'd be surprised at how home video keeps even the rare characters in the public conscious. The Aristocats and Rescuers might not be A-list stars, but many children are familiar with them; and why shouldn't Disney use its massive theme park merchandising machine to re-introduce the classics?

The decades offer plenty of recognizable characters. Here's a quick list off the top of my head:
20s — Mickey, Minnie, Pete, Oswald (a pipe dream at WDW)

30s — Pluto, Goofy, Donald, Daisy, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Three Little Pigs

40s — Pinocchio, Fantasia, Bambi, Dumbo, Chip and Dale, and throw in the Headless Horseman/Ichabod Crane for a thrill. Brer Rabbit/Bear/Fox could slide in as a generic riverboat theme.

50s — Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Davy Crockett

60s — Winnie the Pooh, 101 Dalmatians, Jungle Book, Herbie the Love Bug, toss in Sword in the Stone to please fanboys. Add POTC and HM for theme park synergy.

70s — Robin Hood, Aristocats, The Rescuers, Pete's Dragon. Admittedly weak. Parade producers would have to toss in a lot of dancers to make up for this unit.

80s — The Little Mermaid, Roger Rabbit, Ducktails. Let's be honest and admit "Fox and the Hound" and "Great Mouse Detective" would never make it to a parade. Break park boundaries and add Figment to the 80s unit.

90s — Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, the Lion King, Toy Story. If needed, Pocahontas, Hercules, A Bug's Life, and Hunchback could fill empty holes.

2000s — For Disney, this era was just as weak as the 70s, but Pixar easily wins this decade. Nemo, the Incredibles, Monsters Inc, Cars. Maybe add Princess and the Frog, but that movie doesn't fit the overall flavor from this parade unit.

2010s — Tangled, Frozen, Big Hero 6. Wreck-It Ralph has, unfortunately, proven to be as ultimately forgettable as some of Disney's lesser films from the 70s and late 90s.

The point is, Disney could easily fill a parade with characters from across the decades. But since characters are usually grouped by themes and not time periods, this parade will probably never happen.

Really hoping that the 50th is what they're aiming for. It's already too late to open attractions for the 45th... but with 6 years to plan for 2021? We could have tons of new entertainment and RIDES for that amazing milestone year.

You're kidding, right? Maybe you're right about the Great Mouse Detective, but the fact that there is The Fox and the Hound merchandise for sale and none for the Great Mouse Detective says a lot about the company's feelings toward the movies. The simple fact that there is any merchandise at all goes a long way in Disney. Also in 1981, there was a temporary addition to the MSEP that added two floats to promote the Fox and the Hound, so it's not impossible for Disney to do it again.

I love the movie and consider it an underrated classic, but I think the costumes might be difficult to pull off.

I think the costumes would be just like any other 'normal' animal character. Just look at the costumes for characters like Pluto, Marie, and Bolt. They would be similar to those where they'd be walking on two feet, albeit looking a bit strange.

When Wishes does retire, does that mean Hallowishes and Holiday Wishes retires as well?

No. I wouldn't expect Disney to rename their seasonal fireworks or create new ones unless attendance at the party's remain constant or fall. The new HoPo show will keep people coming around, and now rumors are popping up that next year we MIGHT have new offerings for Christmas at MK.

At least this idea might fly in Tokyo Disney Resort due to their parades featuring alot of obscure and rarely seen Disney characters. Especially since their floats are huge and much longer compared to a typical float at WDW and Disneyland. I mean look at Dreamlights.

Also this idea reminds me of a scrapped Disney film where almost every Disney characters goes searching for Mickey Mouse who is missing but this got cancelled. The closest would have to be House Of Mouse since all most every Disney character are present as audience members.

I agree and don't forget Toulouse and Berlioz. I also remember seeing an old photos of Oliver at Disneyland and WDW and I'm picturing Todd looking similar to how Oliver looked but as a fox instead of a cat.

It would COST MONEY that's why it will never happen

If WDW celebrates it's 50th Anniversary in 2021. I hope they make that anniversary extra special with a special new nightime parade that won't be like Pain The Night. But a tribute to each of the Disney films by each decade including some underrated ones. At least have one new WDW parade that acknowledges the films from the 70's such as The Aristocats, or The Rescuers.

It's not in a parade, but I was watching the video loops via YouTube, of the new Club Disney animations, and I was shocked to see Oliver and Co, Rescuers, Rescuers Down Under, Bolt, Robin Hood, Aristocrats, etc... The inclusion of them in a video loop is cheap for Disney I know, but I was glad to see them even if only for a bit.

I'm surprised at the mention on the blog for the 45th. Gotta get ready to plug that cupcake and special park map! ;) But seriously, I'd love to see them do SOMETHING to acknowledge it, but with the 50th a bit more special I'd find it hard to believe they do much next year. They could easily promote all the new things at Epcot and Animal Kingdom as an overall part of MK's 45th. We just got a new day parade. We'd have heard of a new night parade by now, I'd imagine. We'll probably get a Wishes replacement because that keeps being talked about around here.
